Is it the canker worms causing your avatar that obvious discomfort in the bottom department?

No more than the rules laws and regulations of any society. Like it or not most western judicial systems have their roots in religious doctrine.

no, shmuck'ums, if you'd bothered to look at the post in context, instead of being lazy, you'd have realized that the linked post was to illustrate that Dawkins exhibits all of the butt-headed bully-boy traits he claims to loathe in religious people.

As someone who was raised without religion and never adopted any, I can be entirely neutral when I say that the most zealous "believers" I've ever met are atheists. Not saying worst in the world, just talking about my personal interactions 40 years living in the South. Admittedly, I also run in intellectual, non-religious circles, but more intelligent people do tend towards greater arrogance.

Except maybe one cabbie who tried to "save" me while driving me to work.

Maybe so, although religions often claim that God can read your thoughts and knows what's inside your heart and mind. If the NSA had equipment which could read people's minds, then there would likely be an even bigger outcry.

And unlike earthly societies, religion offers no escape. There's no other country to go to, and even death is not an escape from that kind of tyranny.

Sure, there may be some religions which aren't quite so strict and give their adherents a bit of a break. But for the most part, they expect their adherents to live up to a certain standard which may be difficult for a lot of people to handle. If people are under pressure to reach a goal they don't feel capable of achieving, then I can see where it would lead to frustration and depression.

shmuck'ums? Doubly pathetic for the adolescent name-calling.

I was seeking amplification of the atheist "doctrine" you imagined. Apparently you are ignorant about the topic and just making shit up. Not surprised.

Study is crap.

1. Assuming that religion is religion, that all religions cause the same mental effects, is ridiculous. I assume that a Hindu, a Buddhist, a Unitarian, a Satanist, and a Catholic all have different responses to their spirituality.
2. Cause and effect are not separated. Does religion make for depression, or do depressed people seek out religion?

no, you're just put out because you made an off the cuff comment/reply and it didn't apply. and adolescent name calling is no more adolescent than using sarcastic smileys to be snarky without copping to it. And calling someone pathetic, as you did in your first reply, is of course opening the door to adolescent name-calling. Once again someone snarking someone else for the behaviour they do themselves. Just like atheists complaining about judgmental behaviour.

as well as saying 'you imagine' which is an equally cockless/passive aggressive tactic, and using the word 'ignorant'. an extension of the point I was making is that brainless joiners, like yourself, who resort to snide throw away lines that were created by other people long before yourself, to defend an opinion that you can barely illustrate yourself...

...IS EXACTLY what the juvenile "ain't got no real credits" joiner-babies of the atheist camp do, while they complain about Religists doing the SAME thing.

So thanks for being the object example of the hypocrisy of the people who often wear tarppings of "original thinkers" while being nothing more than one more internet 'herd animal', like all the hipster-wanks out there (often atheists as well).

what's pathetic is some hipster-wank wannabe nerd with no real chops (except for their weak-ass sideburns) doing a 'mash up' of religion here on this thread while complaining about religion. Ever done a mash-up and call it original, art-twink? because mash-ups are what people who CANNOT CREATE do. Just like atheists can't even come up with their own schpiel, they just sound EXACTLY like angrey 20-something fundamentalists who rage against people of the opposing camp.

You may as well just call it quits and marry a Mormon chick, Snooki.

Well, you do go on . . and on . . and on . . . with self-inflating, narcissistic rhetoric while you continue to evade the issue you raised of atheist doctrine. So, I say again you were obviously making shit up. When called on it you have no answer but to bloviate. Bah!

actually not, since with the last post you have answered almost exactly like george Pell, Primate of the Catholic Church of Australia would have answered. And with your last post you have again - hypocritically - proffered more insults just like people you've complained about. pointing out your double-standard is not rhetoric. The fact you've failingly attempted to deflect the rest of the comments by choosing one sentence to half-way reply to underscores that.

You are behaving no differently to and no better than a 65 year old fire-and-brimstone Minister who bellows inchoately against people whom accept fossil-records and carbon dating (as you and I both do ourselves).

NBA, why so much snark? All I see is people making perfectly reasonable points or asking legitimate questions and getting their heads bitten off for it.

What is this mysterious "atheist doctrine"? Please specify what you mean when you use the phrase. I for one have never heard of an "atheist doctrine". As there is no general agreement on what "atheism" is, I find it difficult to guess how any one could construct a doctrine based on atheism.

About the only thing that all atheists agree upon is that the case for the existence of a deity is unproven. So please, advise us precisely what you mean when you use the term "atheist doctrine". Minus the snark thanks.
