kyraofMists -> RE: Jobs (7/2/2006 12:11:06 PM)

I am a manager of a department whose only function is to recover money for our clients.  I have 6 people who directly report to me.  Personally I dislike managing people but I am really good at my job.

In my intimate relationship, I am his slave.

I am a consultant, but do very little consulting.   Mostly I babysit a 2 yr old and a newborn for my grand daughter

I'm a wildly unsuccessful frustrated artist.

Join the club.  My current "job title" (such as it is) is "Starving Artist."

What I've done over the course of my life, though, has run the gamut from waiting tables to stay at home mom to teaching assistant to retail and wholesale sales to interior design to website design and management.

(My family keeps joking that eventually I'll decide what I want to be when I grow up.  I have assured them, though - I have no intention of growing up, only of growing old.)

Hmmm...Wouldn't that make you a masochist??

I work in special education, as an assistant. I think it's a fairly submissive job, in that my main function is to anticipate needs, and meet them as quietly and gracefully as possible. LOL

I don't believe it's correlated for everyone though. The best explanation I have seen is that some people are "naturals" and they will tend to take jobs that reflect their orientation, and others are "balancers", they take jobs opposite their orientaion in order to find a blance for the control aspects in their life. (Ex: The A-type business execs who submit on weekends)

Caveat: "natural" is not my word for it, so no flames, please...this is the term the author used in expressing his theory. I'm sure there are better ones but I haven't had coffee yet...

I'm a fiction editor and a submissive.  I don't think there's any real correlation between the two for me--though when first starting out in publishing, it does help if you're a masochist.  [>:]  I still have to grovel in front of my higher-ups, but at least I now have a stable of authors who I get to boss around.

And I bet she looks divine while groveling [8|]

I was just wondering what kind of work you all do?  And whether or not you're dominant, submissive or switch?
Do you think there's any correlation between the type of work one chooses to do and their dominant/submissive personality?

fyrekittyn -> RE: Jobs (7/2/2006 1:09:43 PM)

I am a switch, but more submissive than anything else.

I own a small business and work as a medical screener. In my business I have to be very take charge (I am a wedding officiant and wedding planner). I love at the end of the day being able to come him and let somebody else be in charge! However, in my professional life, I am not happy without some variety of authority. I am also working on going back to school to be a nurse!

sublizzie -> RE: Jobs (7/2/2006 1:22:38 PM)

I am an administrative assistant, which is as masochistic as I want to get.

Absolutely!! *grins*

cacodylic -> RE: Jobs (7/2/2006 1:59:03 PM)

I'm a college instructor and a sub. From what I've seen, there seems to be little or no correlation between job and orientation....

i am a nurse and have found many other slave/submissives on other sites and groups are also nurse. That has been a topic of discussion amongst M/many. Is there a correlation? For us it has been something we have pondered.

There are many nurses who are dominant, from what I've seen. And they're not all into "medical play" lol

BeingChewsie -> RE: Jobs (7/2/2006 2:01:49 PM)

I am a Registered Nurse and Nurse Educator. Before I did this, I was an elementary school teacher. My owner is an attorney, business owner and Dean in a University. I'm sure there is some correlation. He doesn't pursue jobs where he is not at the top of the food chain. I prefer the bottom of the food chain.

feastie -> RE: Jobs (7/2/2006 2:04:13 PM)

I work for a company that fabricates pressure vessels for the petrochemical industry.  I purchase materials and perform secretarial functions.  I do not believe there's a correlation between submissiveness and my job, although I do think submissiveness helps anyone who has a boss.

Level, in just what way did you mean banging your gavel? [sm=biggrin.gif]

I used to be a health unit coordinator. There's NOTHING lower on the food chain than that. LOL
