Essentially I lead a team of two (including me) in researching and maintaining a global tax calendar and a 'family of forms' template-thing. It's pretty cool in a nerdy-random-way.

I'm a cocktail waitress, and I may be starting a second job as a dancer part-time next week. I got an offer of employment contingent upon some paperwork and the paperwork hasn't gone through yet, so I won't know until the end of the week whether I have the second job or not.

Oside, I like your posts. I'm truly sorry about your illness, but that's not fair. If someone here says, I'm an Olympic runner - one who presumably felt joy doing it, they are naturally going to feel sorry for someone without working legs, because they know what others are missing. That feeling is about their passion and joy and a magnanimous heart that wants others to feel all of that, too. It has nothing to do with whether the person without working legs actually wants to run.

While this may be an area of sensitivity for you, I think the poster meant you no harm at all. I also think some posters are reacting to the word, "insult." That's intellectual, distant and ego-related. Really, we'd all have to shut up completely if we were to avoid insulting others, ever. Too much diversity to achieve that. I think a more understanding response would have come if you'd used the word, "hurtful." The heart, people respond to.

MisterP61, you are absolutely 100% right! I feel sorry for any woman who didn't experience Motherhood.

As a cancer survivor who cannot have children, I always find that attitude insulting.

OP - Jill of all trades, including:
soda jerk
stagehand (carpentry and electric)
sexual assault/domestic violence counselor
media/public relations for a parent/child association
human rights activist
elder care and child care
sailing crew - 1st mate
phone sex actress
writer
and more... LOL, I follow my fancy.

To those who question how people afford things... not everyone lives 9 to 5, or works as an employee to accumulate money. Some are born, or become, independently wealthy. Investments. Inheritance. Lotto. Savings. Barter. Marriage. Insurance payouts from accidents or court cases. Finding treasure - like a rare coin or postage stamp. Lots of people do not work for a living.

ETA - I don't consider parenthood to be something done for a living.

I get where Oside's coming from, I think. I'm child-free, but for far less dramatic reasons than Oside. And I wouldn't be too impressed if someone tried to pity me for not having children. It's like saying that we are incomplete women or people. And for anyone who would have loved children but couldn't, it must be incredibly hurtful to be pitied.

"Feel sorry for" and "pity" are two different things. Pity involves not respecting the pitied. Feeling sorry for someone, means your heart goes out for their loss, and respect is present. I read that post as the latter and I think two women here took it as the former.

I finished reading the thread and it says to start a new one to continue this, so I'm out.

Becoming...

You have to understand that LorraineCA was one of many made-up socks of someone with way too much free fucking time on his/her hands. It was all bullshit and "she" didn't really exist. It was all designed just to piss people off and cause drama.

Well, thanks for that information, ST. If that's true, then that was just mean. I must admit to being vulnerable to not recognizing deliberate harm and tend to suspect misunderstanding, instead. It's kind of a nice trait, but it fails me at times like this. So, perhaps the responses to her posts were reacting to a fuller picture, knowing the posts were mean-spirited. I responded to the actual posts, themselves. (Still, I do feel a bit protective of Oside as for years now, her posts have added value to my life. I thought she wouldn't feel so hurt if it were just a misunderstanding.)
