dollparts85 -> Permanent collar tattoo (2/3/2014 9:25:15 AM)

I am hoping to get a permanent collar tattoo soon. I really want a heart shaped lock on the back of my neck with property of my Master's name written inside it. But all my friends/family think it's a bad idea and that it will "jinx" the relationship and doom it to failure. What's everyone's opinion on such things here?

anniezz338 -> RE: Permanent collar tattoo (2/3/2014 9:31:44 AM)

As far as the collar tatto, hey. whatever floats your boat. But I would not put my masters name on it. Have you ever seen the show "Bad Ink"? Lots of people covering names after breakups.

Now I think "Master" in the heart shaped lock would be better. Actually kinda cool even.

I'm gonna start out with a firm 'no' vote on this one. Think ahead five to ten years and what it might mean then. If it helps you to make your decision, have the artist put on a temporary one for you to see what it looks like while wearing work clothes. Think about what a prospective employer might have to say, or what it looks like in public. It's a hot fantasy, but use some common sense.

It would be hidden by my hair most of the time.

Its gonna hurt and its going to be $$
I don't think it will "jinx" the relationship, but I do think its silly.
I mean...you can NEVER be uncollared- should the relationship fail- you'll have a constant long term reminder.

SlipSlidingAway -> RE: Permanent collar tattoo (2/3/2014 9:38:08 AM)

There was a time I really wanted a permanent mark to denote being owned. Unfortunately, the relationship that I thought was permanent wasn't. Oh, and I was quite certain it would be. In hindsight, I am VERY glad I did not go that route. Very few things last forever. While I hope your situation does, and I don't think you would be jinxing the relationship (it will last, or not, regardless of the tattoo). However, if somewhere in the next 60 some-odd years of your life you find that your relationship status changes, the ink will be expensive and unpleasant to remove.

I have a high pain tolerance so I'm not really worried about the pain.

Key word here: 'most of the time'. Do as you will, and it's a nice gesture, but seriously think about all the pros and cons of putting any tattoo there, much less one with subject matter like this, and before you get inked, make sure your Master is on board with it as well.

Here's the thing: An employer that cares about exposed tattoos isn't going to care if it's covered by your hair. They're going to care whether it's covered by clothing.

There's been a rash of postings lately where the OP hasn't thought about the Pros and Cons and when others point out the Cons the OP blows them off.

This is real advice from an employers point of view....if it's visible outside of your clothes, it will impact who will employ you.

Count me as another "No" vote.

NuevaVida -> RE: Permanent collar tattoo (2/3/2014 10:33:00 AM)

6 years after the end of my last M/s relationship, I still have the dude's initials on my skin. At the time, I thought I'd "cherish it forever" even if we did split up. Well I don't.

Up until a few years ago I wanted to rip the skin off my body over it. Now I don't really care about it anymore, but at some point I'll be paying good money to have it covered.

You get a No vote here.

That's fine as long as you never apply for a job which requires hair 'off the collar' and tied up. Like any sort of food prep, science, law enforcement and a great deal of customer service posts and child care. I personally wouldn't want to limit my options when there's a lot more flesh to mark that wouldn't have that draw back.

I don't really like name tats anyway, but I think it's generally a big mistake to have your partner's name inked. Not because of any sort of superstition, just because people and feelings change.

angelikaJ -> RE: Permanent collar tattoo (2/3/2014 10:48:24 AM)

If you want something permanent, perhaps it should be something a little easier to remove, like a wedding ring?

Employers don't object to those and it is much easier to resize them if you lose weight at some point.

FelineRanger -> RE: Permanent collar tattoo (2/3/2014 10:58:01 AM)

Yet another [sm=alarm.gif]NO[sm=alarm.gif] vote from me because I fully agree with the others have already stated that nothing is permanent, no matter how much you might think otherwise. A collar, regardless of what material it is constructed from, won't prevent a relationship from ending any more than a marriage certificate does. And, yes, the tattoo will affect whether or not you even get hired at many places.

Spiritedsub2 -> RE: Permanent collar tattoo (2/3/2014 11:03:16 AM)

It's a great idea. Who really cares about employability anyway?

You could have a band engraved to say 'Property of XXXX.'

freedomdwarf1 -> RE: Permanent collar tattoo (2/3/2014 11:37:37 AM)

Another NO vote from me too.

It's just a really baaad idea.

wittynamehere -> RE: Permanent collar tattoo (2/3/2014 11:39:30 AM)

There's no such thing as jinxing something, that's magical thinking. But it still might not be a good idea. Make sure you're certain, but don't let other people (other than your owner) tell you what to do.

FelineFae -> RE: Permanent collar tattoo (2/3/2014 11:55:28 AM)

i'd wait until you're done with any medical procedures needed for your back pain.

Yes and wear it on whichever finger you wish.
