Status: offline 		During a heated discussion about what might be the most fitting-name for your average, leopard-print wearing, slicked-back hair sporting, mustachioed slimeball, the final contenders were Deuce Ramone and Tre Swank.  My friend took the sobriquet "Deuce Ramone" while I took the latter.

Status: offline 		I'm amused.  I mean, it's not every day that a used up older fellow who had his photo made at Glamor-Shots can poke fun at a young, cute, trenchant-witted guy, who can dress up in a hoody and sport a five o' clock shadow, and still pull off good looking.  You'd better step outside and enjoy the weather, brother, because your biological Death-Watch is ticking down as we speak.

Seems it's more of a 5 and 7 o'clock shadow, and maybe a bit of lunch under the lip.

I'm smokin and drinkin as fast as I can, but the damn clock is soooooo slow.

Scholarly chops? So you might read some poetry. Maybe teacher told you what you should consider is good. If that is where it ended, then you miss the point of poetry altogether.

It isn't graded. It is whether any individual bit of it strikes some chord in you. Or even better, if you can put some feelings of you into words that another might understand.

But understanding words of feelings is just smoke. The words mean what the person who reads them feels. And what the person who wrote them........well that might have changed as they put them down.

One day a poem may mean something to you, or the person who wtrote it. The next, it may be nonsense.

Poems are feelings. Nobody hears or feels the words the same way. Even the writer can leave that place in a moment.

Status: offline 		No one ever told me what was "good" literature, Kedikat.  As of right now, I'm reading Iceberg Slim, Jim Goad, and Jeff Rassoul (J-Man Times.....great indie zine), and I find value in anyone whose life observations transcend the narcissistic and morbid self-observation that I tend to find in alot of crap online. Just because somebody knows the definition of "iambic pentameter", doesn't mean they should automatically start exposing their embarrassing life revelations in front of the world.  It doesn't take balls.......but it does require a ton  of naivete masked under the guise of worldliness.

Young and dumb.  That pretty much sums it up.  Regardless of the esteem in which you hold yourself, the reality is, you're a dime-a-dozen.  And come to think of it, common.

Again.....show us your balls. Write us a poem. You critique that which you seem unable or unwilling to do. So what is your critique worth? Especially in the ephemeral realm of feelings in words. Your post and followups become more nothingness. I am sure the list of authors you note have folks who love them and hate them. Who is the ultimate judge?

Status: offline 		Really, there is of course good and bad poetry and literature. But it is always in the eye/mind of the beholder.
What really cheesed me off was the attack on folks trying to put their feelings into words in posts and profiles.
They aren't trying to sell a book or be famous. Just trying to say a bit of their heart and mind.

Be kind. Tolerant.

Status: offline 		During this whole thread, I've had only one iota of support from a strapping fellow who took the initiative to send me a personal message.  I'm not going to reveal the sender's identity out of respect for his privacy........but here's the post.

    "I just read your "shitty poetry" thread, and I couldn't agree more. (I would've replied in the thread, but for some reason I can't log in there.) I now feel somewhat compensated for all the times I've been forced to lie through my teeth and compliment women for their unsightly soul-bearing. Somebody really had to say it. :D"
 
       Needless to say, this individual is now on my favorite's list!
