The saddest thing is the years of abuse people have endured as a result of Phelps and his vile family.

Karma is a bitch, and with all the pain this guy has caused, I cant say I am sorry.

Maybe God will smile on all of us and put every church group within a thousand miles at his funeral holding signs saying "God hates fucktards".

If people did something like that, wouldn't "God hates fucktards" be a statement against interest? [:D]

Fucktards and interest are incompatible issues.

Interest is created by a deposit of earned effort.

Fucktards are created by a breakdown of DNA.

This thread is one of the ugliest threads in P&R.

Y'all have a nice day.

A very nice day, Yachtie. The world became a slightly better place with the departure of this person from it. Let him be mocked, and villified, and if they have the stones to have one, let his followers and family be visited with the anguish at his funeral that they so gleefully heaped on others. And then let him be completely forgotten.

I have defended his right to free speech, I'll not stifle my own, and yes, I say we should fucking celebrate his death.

Maybe you can find something that won't offend your delicate nature over in the Humor and Games section.

Conventon has it that we ought not speak ill of the dead. Or as in this case those about to die.

I've racked my brains trying to think of something nice to say about Phelps, his vile family and their long history of malice.

I've failed in my quest to find something nice to say about him - which kind of says it all doesn't it?

To the dead, one owes only the truth - Hunter Thompson (probably not word for word, but I'm not Googling for the benefit of a fuck like Phelps)

Considering the karma he built up over the years, he will probably be reborn as a gay masochist slave.

Have a look at the link I posted, tweak: the arsewit has left the building, at last.

As for your other point, I've never held with not speaking ill of somebody, just because they've died, particularly if you never had a good word for them* when they were still breathing and making a tit of themselves. To me, that smacks of the vilest form of mealy mouthed hypocrisy. Fuck that.

A sentiment I generally agree with and usually observe but this is one of those rare circumstances in which I am willing to make an exception.

"MR. PHELPS. CLEANUP IN STALL THREE. MR. PHELPS. CLEAN UP IN STALL THREE."

Hell's bells, he looked so much like the demonic priest in Poltergeist 2. Just saying . . . .

I've always wondered how someone who violates his principles can continue to believe that he has them.

Sometimes values come into conflict, Kirata, and sometimes people need to let the demons off the leash a little bit.

On this particular topic, I'm from a family where somebody is going to stand up and tell the truth about the deceased every time we bury one. For the little old ladies from the church my grandmother went to for the last couple years of her life, it was quite a shocking experience. Their problem. We actually knew the woman.

Going to sound dumb... but I figure if I can pray for his soul and try my best to mean it... then I can pray for mine without feeling so guilty.

I think many of this thread's posts might fairly be said to extend a trifle or two beyond that. [:D]

I was keeping the description of our traditions brief, Kirata. [;)]

It fell to me to inform a cousin of her passing. I left him a two word message. "Ding dong" He understood immediately. We've also been known to hit a strip club the night before a funeral, and drink to the dead at last.

For my part, Phelps isn't getting the worst I have dished out with kin.

GR....

It`s far from over......his lawyer/daughter has been the driving force behind the uber sacrilegious outrage/hate machine/schtick they do.

She is one scary stone cold be-och and with decades of sadness to spread. One of her explicit goals is to get normal, otherwise law abiding people to assault them so they can use the assault for sympathy and law suits.I hear they make a moderate income from law suits.

Counter protesters are warned often NOT to do anything physical or violent.

I`m a little tickled.......[:D] by the neo-cons here bashing what is the natural result of their party`s vile and disgusting anti-homosexual rhetoric...the wbc.........Oh I`m sorry for pointing that out......shame on me.....[;)]

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Reports linking Vice President Al Gore with notorious anti-gay activist Fred Phelps, Jr., and the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas were confirmed with the release of photographs showing Gore at a fundraiser at the home of Fred Phelps, Jr., who told the Conservative News Service on October 16 that he served as a Gore delegate on the floor of the Democratic National Convention in Atlanta in 1988.

Gore, who was quoted by the Nashville Tennessean in 1984 saying homosexuality is not "an acceptable alternative that society should affirm" and said in his 1984 US Senate race that he would not accept money from gay rights organizations and that he opposed a "gay bill of rights," reportedly sought the support of the Phelps family in his 1988 presidential campaign, and invited the Phelpses to the Clinton-Gore inaugurations of January 1993 and January 1997.

Yep. The neo-cons....
