Problem is that we here in america cannot tell the difference between a brit a kiwi and an aussie

I used to have the same problem distinguishing Americans from Canadians. However, I've learned that all you have to do is say 'Hello' to the person in question. If you hear him say 'hello' back, he's Canadian. If he's American, you won't hear what he says back because he'll have already drawn his piece and blown your brains out.

omg...that is soooo sad....but I am afraid it has a lot of merit...I found myself on the floor of the parking garage in a las vegas casino the other day trying to have a civil discussion with a kidney stone. I was aproached by security and told I could not lay on the floor in the parking garage. I threw up on their shoes...they were not impressed. The still made me leave.

I had proof of that many years ago in a bar in Newark. I was with a dutch shipmate and the owner must have heard us talking and he came over and asked us where we were from. We told him we were from Australia and he replied "That's down south someplace ain't it ?"...................We agreed that yes, it was way down south. He said he didn't recognise the accent so figured it had to be someplace like that, bought us a beer and wandered away.
That in itself is funny, up to a point, but the funnier part is that I am from the east end of London and I am told I have a very strong London accent and Ari was from the Netherlands and his accent was so thick, you could cut it and carve it.

The way I'm reading your post, you and your shipmate were in a bar in Newark when an American who overheard you talking asked where you were from; you pranked him by telling him that you were from Australia; he believed you and bought you a beer, not realizing that you were being assholes; and you think that's funny.

I wonder who would I rather be, the American or you? Gimme a sec.....

defending himself from a kid half his body weight and size.

You're making shit up again. Martin was young and strong, a 5'-11" tall street fighter who weighed in around 160lbs and had the advantage of both height and reach over Zimmerman, who was a pudgy out-of-shape 185lbs, stood only between 5'-7" and 5'-8" tall (reports vary), and was described by his trainer as physically soft and too unskilled to go into the ring.

Can't you find a more fun hobby than contaminating forum discussions?

Oh, ok, so that justifies killing the kid. He was a mere 3 inches taller. And black....

But I am correct on weight. Since Martin was slim and Zimmerman fat. So not entirely 'bullshit' as you state. Now, without his gun, would Zimmerman have been as 'gung-ho' to stalk after someone?

Well no, you are not correct.

George Zimmerman was 5'-8" and 185 lbs at the time of his arrest ~Seminole County Sheriff's Office
Trayvon Martin was 5'-11" and 158 lbs at the time of his autopsy ~Tampa Bay Times

So yeah... entirely bullshit.

So half of 185 is 160?

Just move on, dude.

On a visit to the USA some years ago, this little redhead with white skin and blue-grey round eyes was somewhat taken aback when some one enquired about my background:
'"Are you Chinese?" they asked.
" Australian, that's almost Chinese" I replied
"You speak such good English!" they enthused ........

So is the point of this story how ignorant they were for not knowing where you were from or for believing that you would give them an honest answer to their question? Or perhaps lying is such a natural thing to you that you find it funny when anyone believes what you say.

I have not read through everything that has been written, but um..., boy sneak into garage, which means he trespass private property, in a country where you are allowed to shoot people who walks on your lawn.

Silly kid, he deserves it!

Not feeling sympathetic at all for the kid and not a good story for being against guns.

Interestingly, I live in a gun-free country and it works out pretty good since illegal guns are really difficult to get. So it works.

But US can't even secure their Mexican borders properly, how will they ever regulate the bad guys from getting guns in their hands? So I don't think banning guns from the good guys is the right solution for the US.

Using a firearm is only legal when you are defending your dwelling here in rural Ohio. You cannot legally use deadly force in defending your property outside the thresholds of the doors on your home.

That being said, if you don't want to be shot by someone who is NOT in the know with regard to current firearm laws, don't sneak onto their property, or into their out-buildings, and try to steal from them. It's really quite simple. I really don't feel all that bad for anyone who is maimed or killed doing something that is both stupid and illegal, such as what is described in the OP.

Taking firearms away from those who know how to employ them legally because of someone else's actions is just the kind of lunacy that is causing the great decline we are seeing in our country right now. There's absolutely no logic to it. The reality is that the exchange student became a criminal once he secretly entered the property. The choice was his and he paid the ultimate price for his shockingly poor decision making. Let it be a lesson to others in making better life choices.

Let's hope none of your kids or young relatives do anything stupid then.

I really hate myopic idiots that think they have the honourable and legal right to blast someone into oblivion as their #1 priority just because some stoopid kid entered an open garage or outbuilding.
What next??
Some kids get caught scrumping in an orchard and they forfeit their lives for some stupid childhood prank??
This sort of gung-ho "I shoot first because I legally can" mentality is what gives decent law-abiding gun owners a really really bad name.
The attitude is just sooo wrong on so many levels.

At this point it appears that the legally owned firearm was not legally operated.

is just the kind of lunacy that is causing the great decline we are seeing in our country right now.

According to all the sources crime is down and has been going down for several years...so what exactly is this "lunacy"you speak of?

Silly kid, he deserves it!

Is it just other peoples kids who deserve to die for being silly or would that apply to some silly action(illegal) of your own child?

Jeez, right - anybody could come and sit on your lawn chair. Hell, he could well be there intending to rape it, or even to teach it to sing like a pig.

Er ... Sorry. Something happened around posts 172 and 173 that seems finally to have made my brain explode.

You also live in a country where it is illegal to chew gum.
You live in a country that still administers corporal punishment...if it worked why are there still offenders?
