Perhaps the way we're doing it now, except that we make sure the laws are being followed?

We might want to close the borders to the continuing flood, too.

And how do we make sure that the laws are followed. Impeach?

Pay for the agents to do it.

In the real world, shit costs money.

This isn't just about Obama and his Administration. We need elected representatives that will force the issue, regardless of who is in the Oval Office. I don't think we have enough in Congress that are willing to do so.

Musicmystery -> RE: Eric Cantor defeated! (6/14/2014 1:28:46 PM)

First Congress will have to be willing to pay for it.

cloudboy -> RE: Eric Cantor defeated! (6/14/2014 2:53:21 PM)

Some people stand firm on principles that lead to nowhere. (This is a prime example.)

Take subrob, for instance, on principle he'd have let the free market sort out the economic mess Obama inherited. That was more important to him than forestalling a great depression or protecting jobs and the US economy.

There is a kind of legal-economic fundamentalism in play here that demands problems either be made worse or go unsolved rather than compromise one's beliefs.

cloudboy -> RE: Eric Cantor defeated! (6/14/2014 3:16:34 PM)

He wants the problem to fester for 100 years without doing anything about it. It's a matter of principle to him. Ruined lives, slower economic growth, a depressed housing market -- fuck all that on principle.

truckinslave -> RE: Eric Cantor defeated! (6/14/2014 3:33:20 PM)

Yes

Congress has shown they are willing to pay for some of the stupidest shit. Why not pay for something legit?

Fuck all your bullshit on principle. Illegal immigration needs to be stopped. I do notice you have yet to acknowledge that I'm actually for increasing the number of immigrants we get, and making it faster and easier to be granted legal status here.

They are here illegally. They are choosing to risk their families. Economic growth isn't stagnant because we aren't granting legal status to illegal immigrants. The housing market isn't depressed because we aren't granting legal status to illegal immigrants. The illegal immigrants are here. Are they buying anything? Are they living anywhere?

That's a pretty silly point. The answers are obviously yes and yes.

It's not a silly point. If they are already buying stuff, what is the gain to the economy by making them legal immigrants (are we going to ban remittances)? If they have homes already, how is the housing market going to increase?

Musicmystery -> RE: Eric Cantor defeated! (6/15/2014 7:52:58 AM)

How do you think they're living? The immigrant fairy brings them stuff? Turns pumpkins into shelter?

If there's a benefit to the economy, it would be in allowing them to work opening and hence probably more, as well as paying taxes.

Is there "more" work for them to do? Unless they are being paid under the table, there are already taxes being taken out, right?

Musicmystery -> RE: Eric Cantor defeated! (6/15/2014 9:07:03 AM)

Obviously, if they're illegal immigrants, they are working under the table, as employers are required to verify citizenship.

No verification, they're off the books, and not having taxes withheld.

There are a great many ways to employ someone not legally allowed to work in this country, Muse. Under the table is only one of them. The use of a stolen identity is another, right along with using a borrowed identity.

It's been a while since I worked anyplace where illegal immigrants were simply a fact of the workplace, but my understanding at that time was that a good cover ID to get a job could be bought for about $750 bucks, and a hard worker could put together that much with about 2 weeks of standing out in front of Home Depot.

For a while a friend of mine had someone using his SS# to work illegally. It caused him a bunch of problems on his taxes.

Hello? Rich? Are you in there?

Whatever the means, the bottom line is . . . they aren't paying taxes.

If they are using someones ss# then they are having taxes taken out which means they are paying them. They just can't file and get anything back and it messes with the owner of the ss# like in DK's friends case.

Musicmystery -> RE: Eric Cantor defeated! (6/15/2014 10:23:01 AM)

. . . who gets it straightened out and doesn't pay those taxes.

No, Muse. That is wrong. The guys working from the hiring spot in front of Home Depot aren't, but if they have found legitimate employment under assumed info, they are paying taxes by means of payroll deductions.

What they are not doing in most cases is filing tax returns to get that tax money refunded to them.

They are also paying sales tax, property taxes get paid from the rent they pay, the fees from their phone bills are going into the funding of the Obamaphones, gas taxes at the pump, and so on.

Musicmystery -> RE: Eric Cantor defeated! (6/15/2014 10:35:28 AM)

And there you have it. Illegal aliens are contributing to the economy and to government revenue, more so than their legal and native citizen peers.

Kind of shows the conservative hysteria for what it is, doesn't it, if it would actually hurt us economically to shut it down.
