ORIGINAL: PeonForHer quote:
Don't know, most likely it would be one of 4 things. A they had seen videos of people continuing to attack after being hit by as many as 6 tasers. B they were afraid of being sued because another department was sued when someone died after being tased (I know they sound contradictory but both have happened) D more likely there had be complaints of overuse of tasers (we have homegrown freedoms and we have some cops who would think it was funny watching someone flop around) E budget restraints, this would explain why the SGT had one when he showed up. Bloody hell, Bama, that's all so weak. I mean, I don't need to say that, do I? I'm having to pull my eyebrows down from the ceiling at reading that the US can't afford some form of (relatively very cheap) weaponry. The USA is not known to have a restrictive budget when it comes to weapons. Also, any police chief would have gathered his troops together, surely, and said, 'For God's sake don't shoot and kill anybody else unless you *really, really* can't avoid it, eh, guys? I mean, we don't need any more hate than we've got right now, OK?". And I have no doubt that his political masters would have supported him, with promises to supply what was needed. (If the Chief and said political masters had any brains and could at least entertain the idea that their outlook and overall policy might just be a little fucked up, that is.) You haven't dealt with any U S law enforcement have you. I ran supply and purchasing for one and yes we had budgetary restrictions. None of our officers had tasers for two reasons A They were aware that too often they don't stop people, particularly if they are on crack or something. B We had a limited amount of money an things like cars, vests , and firearms took precedents. Doesn't matter whether you want to believe it or not. And hard as you will find this to believe not shooting someone ranks just behind not being injured or killed or allowing an innocent to be for virtually every cop in the country, otherwise they would be shooting people every day in every city in the country.
