US advisers began arriving in 1950 (to help France) and it was STILL French-Indochina.

I am pretty sure that truman was president of the u.s. and not of france. So yes the president of the u.s. tok us to viet nam and not france.


There is actually a rather famous book AND movie (with Mel Gibson) that goes over this. "We Were Soldiers Once. . . And Young"

If you depend on novels and the movie for your education you will be forever ignorant.

That took place in the 60's, it is the only Vietnam movie that doesn't infuriate me.

I'd be interested to know of how many countries around the world have had democracy forced upon them and it has worked and stood the test of time.

I can't think of many.

It worked in Germany but that country was the odd one out of the bunch because it was highly civilised for obvious reasons that don't need to be explained,

But, where else?

I think that people/countries have to go through the civil strife in order to arrive at the obvious conclusion.

And, what I meant to say but didn't is that democracy is organic. It is a thought process that only you can solve; no one can do it for you.

The whole point of democracy is that you think for yourself, and if someone else is doing the thinking for you then that's a monumental paradox that simply can't be reconciled.

According to the cia factbook italy is a republic and not a democracy.
According to the cia factbook korea did not get it's first civilian president until the 90's and that the level of corrupion is excessive with fist fights breaking out in the legislature on a regular bassis.
It would appear that the top of your head is full of hot air and little else.
