Some people say we should get rid of the police. Perhaps, but, lets be honest, as we currently are right now, how many of us would actually go out of our way to stop a murder or rape ourselves? Most of us wouldnt (me included, though i want to try to change that), because we have become a society of bystanders, waiting for someone else to help. We need to be more vigilant. Thats why I am also against gun control, because if someone comes into my home, with the intent of harming me or my loved ones, I dont want to have to wait to be rescued. I want the option to defend myself and my loved ones.

Who are these people who suggest we get rid of the police ?
I never met one of these people myself
On its face the sentiment is ridiculous .

People who have been victims of police corruption or incompetence.

I would advocate some serious changes in how police are trained - and equipped - as well as some major changes in various laws. But I don't know of anyone calling for the end of police protection for society.

OP sounds a bit trollish...

How am i being a troll? If I am wrong the correct term is "misinformed" or "ignorant" not "troll".

If people always assume you are a troll, then they are basing it on something. I would love to help you figure it out but I just don't care enough.

Okay,you're not a troll
Try to imagine a modern society without a police force.
Once you do that you have to come to the conclusion that the question is,for lack of a better term, trollish.

I would like to know know what their definition of troll is. Because from where Im standing, they are acting very trollish to me. Instead of trying to make an argument against my claim or calling me misinformed, they call me a troll in hopes of getting a reaction from me.

My main point wasnt to abolish the police, it was for the citizens to be more vigilant and not wait for the police to come. If you see a crime taking place and you can stop it, stop it. Dont wait for the police to come, because they may be too late

I don't think we're a "society of bystanders". I do think that, by-and-large, we have become a society of lazy pieces of shit that pay a lot of lips service to some very high principles but few of us are willing to "roll up our sleeves" and get our hands dirty.

Entitled, maybe? I guess I could have used a better descriptor but I think the idea stands: we're not willing to be the one.

To that, I say: "If not me? Who?"

You opened your OP by stating that some people say we should get rid of the police.
Thats a statement that has to be challenged .
To respond to the rest of your post while ignoring the opening ,absurd statement ,would be surreal

Welcome to the Dungeon where all bets are off.

Support your statements, argue your point, but if they call you a troll, nothing will be done about it in this section.

I guess my biggest worry is if im called a troll, then any other thread I make, no matter how good, will be assumed to be a troll thread.
