I wouldn't see someone as any more real simply by virtue of being a paying member and therefore "confirmed" as real. It's not all that hard to tell if someone is who they say they are and a few conversations will take care of that.

ETA:More to the point i wouldn't see someone as any less real if they don't pay.

Maybe YOU wouldn't. That's cool. But we're really not talking about those who have no problem sorting the real from the fake, are we? We're talking about those who come on here asking how, because they don't have experience online.

Like I said, it wouldn't make much of a difference for me.

But for others, it definitely would. Absolutely would.

And that means that people will be willing to pay for it. And very possibly, eventually only search for those who are verified, etc. Just a bit of positioning, and you have an easy, lucrative revenue stream, even if, instead of monthly, it's just a one-time fee for verification.

So, please keep in mind, I'm not talking about most of the critical thinkers here in the fora. But the general CS public, which is where the money ultimately comes from. After all, have you ever clicked on an affiliate link and purchased?

Then you are not the money for CS. You may be, long term, part of the draw, though. The real people with their heads screwed on straight, are often the heart of a community, and are rarely the high $$ supporters.

No sites should charge - they simply have no need too

Now, i quote a lot of good malarkey, unless hammered on cheap Chardonnay
no need to spend muffin money

oh dear alt, i have no been on that abomination for 8-10 years - and you pay and it has a verification system

user-bases are what they are - yet strangely i always argue for a verification system everywhere

slipper note i am fine with a donation system but nothing else

online is what it is you should be able to work out quickly who is what..it has, and will always be this way....and that comes from an idealist with a cat problem

I think CM should charge a very large fee for each new profile an individual user creates after the first one. What a gold mine for the site.

the first of these sites that I joined is a pay site. well they market it as being free to use, but you soon find out that you can't do very much with it without paying a fee for it. it wasn't an extortionate amount, but I most certainly wouldn't pay for a site again.

What exactly is involved with "verification"?

During my very short search for a nilla partner online I flat out refused to pay. It just plain seems wrong to pay to find love. I don't see this as any different. It seems wrong to pay to find a partner, whether kinky or nilla and I agree with wikkid, it really isn't necessary to charge - or at least it shouldn't be. So at most charging should be supplementary.

I don't know how this site or a non-vanilla site would do it, but when I was with eHarmony for a year, I opted for the (no additional charge to regular member fee) identity verification. They use VeriSign, much like running a credit report, although you don't have to provide your driver's license number. Full name, date of birth, social security number (only first name & age display on profile). It also verifies the home address you have listed with them so that your location (city, state) automatically corresponds with how you originally signed up.

ETA: VeriSign does not verify your profession, income or education you've listed.

Verification is:

I show you my cock. You suck it. Revealing to yourself, it is indeed my cock, and it is suckable.

Anything else is a scam.

Last time I was on Alt it simply involved typing in a word or bunch of numbers/letters. Mind you this is quite a while back so I might be remembering wrong.

Thanks FO.

So, if understand correctly, it's just going to verify your name, age and physical location?

Sounds like that would weed out some of the less desirables.

You're welcome. But what it doesn't do is verify marital status or whether the photos you've posted are actually of you (based on data asked to provide).

A member could still be a married cheater passing off somebody else's pics as his own.

*That* pretty much covers the issues I've found on the internet.

I'm a member on another site that uses verification, but it's not as described above.

basically it's for other members to say whether they have met you, spoken on the phone, or in chat, and what you were like. you get to approve them before showing, which means that you only see anything good that someone has had to say. Some people hide them, so basically you have to be a 'friend' to see who they have been fucking.

Sounds like an interesting premise, sort of. I guess it would be the same as a "reference" in the non-virtual world. Which, can be good, if you can get them...

oh I'm sure they are wonderful for the people that use them. it's also a great way to find out that someone has lied to you

actually I think he has it pretty spot on, so long as the woman sucking his cock is willing to tell the rest of the site that she's done it. Of course many do just post photos

I'm not so sure I would trust that system. First of all friends of someone are unlikely to say bad things about a friend. Secondly if they then have a fight BOOM there goes the reference.
