The American Centers for Disease Control and Prevention claims that "several types of research have documented that male circumcision significantly reduces the risk of men contracting HIV through penile-vaginal sex, as well as lowers the risk of other STDs, penile cancer, and infant urinary tract infection. For female partners, male circumcision reduces the risk of cervical cancer, genital ulceration, bacterial vaginosis, trichomoniasis, and HPV. Although male circumcision has risks including pain, bleeding, infection, and psychological trauma. Other complications are rare."


And I am not sure how they do it where you are from, but they use pain killers here. It is much more dangerous to do when they are older.

Consent really does not enter into this. Parents have the right of consent for their children. If it was not this way, how could they receive ANY treatment?


But again. . . the health benefits are only for male circumcision. It does not work that way for FGM. That causes health issues.

True enough. I don't know about the 'short' thing, but Americans' teeth are legendary. [;)]

To the point: Circumcision was once much more common here in the UK; usually for religious reasons, sometimes for health reasons. Those health reasons came to be seen as somewhat unfounded later on, though.

If they bath twice a day like I assume regular people do, I don't think there is any hygiene issues, unless they simply want to clean themselves less often, so circumcision aids on not get clogged up in there.

OMG, circumcision prevents cervical cancer? Really interested to know the medical or scientific rationale for that. Again, I think condoms prevents STDs alot more effective than circumcision.

Anybody who has been through any type of surgery knows that EVEN with painkillers, post surgery still hurts like fuck!

But circumcision is not for treatment of any illness, most circumcision done on these babies are not medically necessary. It's really mutilation of body parts. And this is quite extreme, to chop of a whole bunch of skin of a baby boy's most private area. I mean, I'm pissed enough when my mom got my ears pierced when I was a baby, now I got a permanent hole I don't want in my ear. The poor boy may want to keep his flap.

Condoms and bathing twice a day are well and good, but the practice of circumcision was popularized long before people used condoms or practiced good hygiene like modern people do

Even these days men go to war, go hitch hiking, go hunting, go native, go crazy, are just lazy trolls etc... And dont always bathe twice per day

And you know damn well that not everyone uses condoms every time they have sex

If there are health benefits as Aylee has fairly well established, try to just accept that and move on

Thanks to Aylee its been established that circumcision offers health benefits because it tends to deny certain cultures a nice, warm, wet place to flourish

The only incentive for "FGM practitioners" that I have seen documented, is that it denies women the ability to enjoy sexual pleasure

Might add that FGM is literally a severe mutilation in many cases, rather than merely removing a bit of loose skin

I caught a news item on this once. The skin of the foreskin is especially adapted to channel microorganisms straight inside where they can be dealt with ASAP by the immune system. Great, for most microorganisms, but not HIV, of course, since the immune system is exactly what this one 'wants' to attack.

If the male ejaculate isnt diseased due to circumcision thats beneficial. There was never any question that condoms can help. But condoms arent always used.

California passed a law forcing the porn industry to use condoms and the reaction? Move production out of state.

The CDC report seems to overlook the fact that the United States has the highest rate of HIV infection and the highest rate of male circumcision in the industrialized world. Doesn't that directly contradict their findings?

The circumcision debate has been done to death around here over the years, as been discussed time and again the studies showing it to have these magic anti HIV powers were conducted in Africa by christian missionaries, studies conducted by scientists in the first world have a notable history of not showing the same results.
