The circumcision debate has been done to death around here over the years, as been discussed time and again the studies showing it to have these magic anti HIV powers were conducted in Africa by christian missionaries, studies conducted by scientists in the first world have a notable history of not showing the same results.

I must admit than even when this notion of circumcision being a defence against HIV came out, I never heard that it was a complete defence - it just reduced one's chances of getting the bug, that's all. It was never to be treated as reliable.

The CDC report seems to overlook the fact that the United States has the highest rate of HIV infection and the highest rate of male circumcision in the industrialized world. Doesn't that directly contradict their findings?

Russia is no longer industrialized? What about Estonia and the Ukraine?

mnottertail -> RE: War on women (2/23/2015 12:50:16 PM)

Isn't Estonia Estonia, and Ukraine (except for the Sebastapol area) Ukraine, and not Russia?

I do believe that you're right, my dear Ronald.

Well, then lets start slicing vaginas and making war on women, sort of like a Guy Fawkes thing. No, wait a minute, he didn't do that.

God should just have designed vaginas with zips. There you go - end of problem.

They compared the disease rate of circumcised men to non-circumcised men in clinical studies, rendering your point moot

It was always a bit suspect, though, Sanity. Christian missionaries' beliefs meshing a bit too nicely with ancient tribal beliefs regarding the virtues of lopping off foreskins, and all that.

Umm yeah. What does that have to do with them being industrialized or not?

mnottertail -> RE: War on women (2/23/2015 1:50:57 PM)

I dont know, what does it have to do with circumcision, hiv, CDC studies and the War on Women?

Is China industrialized?

Lets see... Believe well documented CDC studies, or take the word of some peon utter cad fellow on the Internet who is constantly drinking a piss

Thats a tough one

It seemed like you mistook Russia with the old USSR, Aylee. Unfortunately, it fed into the old (but no doubt entirely unfair) stereotype of Americans having just about the worst sense of geography in the world.

Yeah......about that.....not so much:

quote:

ORIGINAL: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22320006
In 2007, WHO/UNAIDS recommended male circumcision as an HIV-preventive measure based on three sub-Saharan African randomised clinical trials (RCTs) into female-to-male sexual transmission. A related RCT investigated male-to-female transmission. However, the trials were compromised by inadequate equipoise; selection bias; inadequate blinding; problematic randomisation; trials stopped early with exaggerated treatment effects; and not investigating non-sexual transmission. Several questions remain unanswered. Why were the trials carried out in countries where more intact men were HIV-positive than in those where more circumcised men were HIV-positive? Why were men sampled from specific ethnic subgroups? Why were so many participants lost to follow-up? Why did men in the male circumcision groups receive additional counselling on safe sex practices? While the absolute reduction in HIV transmission associated with male circumcision across the three female-to-male trials was only about 1.3%, relative reduction was reported as 60%, but, after correction for lead-time bias, averaged 49%. In the Kenyan trial, male circumcision appears to have been associated with four new incident infections. In the Ugandan male-to-female trial, there appears to have been a 61% relative increase in HIV infection among female partners of HIV-positive circumcised men. Since male circumcision diverts resources from known preventive measures and increases risk-taking behaviours, any long-term benefit in reducing HIV transmission remains uncertain.

Yeah... No.

Any fool can come up with a dissenting paper authored by a couple of nobodys who have an axe to grind

Thanks anyway, but i will stick to a real authority - the CDC

mnottertail -> RE: War on women (2/23/2015 3:00:51 PM)

But why the turnaround? I remember you went to the cretin reports for Bush in Iraq, and anywhere but the EPA for the BP Oil Spill, and a just as slovenly shitbreathing a site as would be Drudge, Breitbart, Faux, and WND on climate change..........

And the NIH is no slouch, BTW.

The claim was that the US had the highest rate of HIV for industrialized countries. I named three other countries, that are industrialized, that have higher rates. Russia, Estonia, and the Ukraine.
