I am not defending this guy but why the hell did the victim argue… then when the cop pulled the taser try to take it from him… then when the cop pulled his gun … run? It seems that since Ferguson African Americans feel empowered and are more likely to resist arrest. I am all for standing up for your rights but it is never smart to try and take a police officers weapon. I am only bringing this up because everyone on this thread seems to be forgetting there was reason to arrest this man… BUT… not to shoot him in the back when he was defenseless and not a threat. Otherwise this was no angel and he contributed to his own death…WHY did he do it? Butch

He didn't cause it... do not get me wrong... but he did contribute to his own death by his actions. We will never know but there was a good chance if he had not tried to take the taser or run that he would be alive today. In the same situation I would not do either of those things and most reasonable people would not either. It is pertinent to wonder why he did it and why it seems to happen with African Americans more. I understand there is distrust, and with good reason in many cases, of the police but that is not reason enough to be so aggressive in this type of situation... It could just be a group of people fed up with the harassment but it sure is not smart. Butch

It is a sad commentary when we have to say that you shouldn't be as fucking rude to cops as they are to you, because you are staking your life on it.

Its a sad commentary when people feel the need to be rude to the people who are trying to protect them. Despite recent events the vast majority of police are trying to do just that...and not rude. Personally I believe the police are being unfairly targeted as the root of society's ills. But I also believe there does need to be reform in police procedures... I just hope these reforms come along quick enough to head off more senseless violence. Butch

Did you read the justice dept report on furgistan? If so how can you repeat that disingenuous garbage? You seem pretty intent on making the black victims somehow responsible for thier own deaths. There was a book called "black like me" where in a reporter dyed his skin and curled his hair and lived as a black man for a bit. If you think that it is the black person's fault then buy the book and do as the author did and find out first hand what being black is like. Otherwise the disingenuous drivle about how blacks are somehow more prone to crime etc. is simply bigoted rhetoric.

There is nothing I have seen that even implies they justified shooting him.

Given the propensity for the police to shoot and kill blacks in the US often for little or no reason, as exemplified by the spate of recent deaths of blacks at the hands of various police around the country, I think it is perfectly obvious why a black male would want to minimise any contact with the police. They say dead men don't talk, but there are lots of corpses sending out a very specific message to black people.
