Given the propensity for the police to shoot and kill blacks in the US often for little or no reason, as exemplified by the spate of recent deaths of blacks at the hands of various police around the country, I think it is perfectly obvious why a black male would want to minimise any contact with the police.

What "little or no reason" shootings does this sudden, almost overwhelming number of deaths comprise, specifically?

K.

Just don't ask about the number of whites killed by black policemen as it does not fit the narrative, you hatey-hater!

kdsub -> RE: It Looks Like This Police Officer Fucked Up (4/9/2015 10:29:12 AM)

Well as far as black and white police more blacks have been killed by black police in St Louis than white... So the racial make up of a department is not always relevant.

Regarding the 'he lunged for the cops tazer, argumentt', having just seen the footage on the news it appears to me that the cop took his tazer from his belt, walked over to the dead man and threw it down next to him

kdsub -> RE: It Looks Like This Police Officer Fucked Up (4/9/2015 12:10:49 PM)

Read the full report of the man who took the video... he stated there was a confrontation where they were on the ground fighting over the taser. Then watch the very beginning of the video... you can see the taser fall to the ground as the man takes off running. After he handcuffed the man he went back and picked the taser up off the ground and dropped it by him.

thompsonx -> RE: It Looks Like This Police Officer Fucked Up (4/9/2015 12:51:39 PM)

Where can we find that report?

kdsub -> RE: It Looks Like This Police Officer Fucked Up (4/9/2015 1:10:46 PM)

It is on yahoo. He Says they were struggling on the ground while the police officer was trying to use the taser. Scott never got control of it. He also said the officer seemed to be more in control.

At least we finally have an instance where the surviving shooter, "in fear of my life," doesn't get to tell the tale of what happened.

Oh I agree...that is not my point. I am just wondering what gets into people to act as they do. I believe there are people that just want an excuse to kill... this officer is one of those and this man gave him the excuse to do so.

Butch

I havent seen the vid and quite frankly i dont want to watch it.. I am going by what you said in your posts..

you said the cop pulled his taser out cuz the guy was arguing with him or rude to him.. so if you disagree or argue with a cop it gives the cop the right to taz you???? not in my opinion it doesnt, what right does the cop have to attack the guy just for that? I disagree with you that the guy was in any part responsible for his own death.. People have to be able to disagree with cops without being attacked or killed as an end result..

kdsub -> RE: It Looks Like This Police Officer Fucked Up (4/9/2015 5:24:40 PM)

What if he was trying to arrest him because of outstanding warrants, which he had, and resisted arrest? He is not in trouble because he pulled him over... he is not in trouble because he tried to tase him when he resisted arrest... He is in trouble because he shot an unarmed man retreating from him... and unless I missed it I did not hear on the video him demanding he stop before he shot... you just cannot do that.. it is in my way of thinking murder. Lack of training or because he resisted is not an excuse in my book for deadly force when there was no threat to the officer or others if he got away.

As i said, i was going by what you posted.. you ask what if? i dont care about "what ifs", i am concerned about what the cop was actually doing, what the guy was actually doing.. was the cop trying to arrest the guy and did the guy resist arrest??? cuz that is not what you said the guy was doing, you said he was arguing with the cop so the cop pulled out his taser.. you said the guy then fought with the cop over the taser.. well if the cop was going to taz him without cause (& simply arguing isnt "cause" imo) then the guy was just defending himself from a rabid power-mad cop.. which also explains why he ran or tried to given his "ungainly run" (as a poster described it).. While some people think being tazed is not harmful, tasers have killed people before so being tazed is being seriously attacked, imo.. that is the point where deadly force started, imo..

I am not defending this guy but why the hell did the victim argue… then when the cop pulled the taser try to take it from him… then when the cop pulled his gun … run?

It seems that since Ferguson African Americans feel empowered and are more likely to resist arrest. I am all for standing up for your rights but it is never smart to try and take a police officers weapon.

I am only bringing this up because everyone on this thread seems to be forgetting there was reason to arrest this man… BUT… not to shoot him in the back when he was defenseless and not a threat.

Otherwise this was no angel and he contributed to his own death…WHY did he do it?

Butch

Murder is murder Butch,if Albert Anastasia killers could have been identified and arrested they still would have been facing murder charges .
Notwithstanding Anastasia's position at the head of Murder Inc.
Or his involvement in Abe Reles (kid twist) final ride/dive [:)]

What do you do if you are trying to arrest someone and they refuse to be arrested, waiting for backup just means that you are going to use more force. The guy tried to take the taser, not the same as the cop trying to taser him, then he ran. Still no justification for shooting him, the warrant was only for late child support. BTW when a cop shoots someone aren't you part of the chorus saying the cop should have used something non-lethal like a taser?
None of this means that I am defending the cop, I see no justification for this shooting.

TJ The cop pulls him over for a busted taillight.
The guy has outstanding warrants for past due child support payments.
The stop turned violent, whether from the cops decision to try an arrest,or the man's fear of being arrested...belligerence turns to violence, being tazed, scuffling for the tazer than running away....and finally being shot in the back
That's basically what you get from watching and reading the first day's reports [:)]

Welp... he made sure the next child support check was not going to be in the mail.

1. Should we really be jailing people for "non-support"?

2. How is this not an enactment of "debtors prison"?

slvemike4u -> RE: It Looks Like This Police Officer Fucked Up (4/9/2015 7:26:54 PM)

It's a failed response to an alarmingly staggering amount of men who fail to support their own children.

Not that the child/children's lives are enriched by having daddy in jail,but.......what are you going to do ?

How do you compel these deadbeat dads to meet their legal obligations ?

Well I don't think shooting them in the back is the answer... hard to pay from the grave

that is not what kbsub said happened and as i said i am not going to watch the video.. he said the guy was arguing and so the cop pulled out his taser.. he didnt say the cop tried to arrest him and the guy resisted arrest.. If the guy was just arguing with him that is not cause to taz him..

eta- found this article on the rabid power-mad cop.. he has done this before.. to the wrong man no less..

"“He said he wanted to come in, but didn’t say why,” said Givens, now 33. “He never said who he was looking for.”
Then, without warning, Slager pushed in the door, he said.
“‘Come outside or I’ll tase you,'” he recalled the officer saying as he burst in. “I didn’t want that to happen to me, so I raised my arms over my head, and when I did, he tased me in my stomach anyway.”
He said the pain from the stun gun was so intense that he dropped to the floor and began calling for his mother, who was also in the home. At that point, he said another police officer came into the house and they dragged him outside and threw him to the ground. He was handcuffed and put in the back of a squad car."

"Moments later, she saw the police officers drag Givens out of the house and throw him in the dirt. Brown said she kept yelling to the officers they had the wrong man, but they wouldn’t listen. Though Givens was offering no resistance, she said she saw Slager use the stun gun on him again.
“He was screaming, in pain,” she said. “He said, ‘You tased me. You tased me. Why?’ It was awful. Terrible. I asked the officer why he tased him and he told me to get back.”"
