Is there any such thing as an anonymous text message? I learned from my first days on collarme something I hadn't known before, that a person can run a Google search on your phone number. A guy I'd been messaging with a little on the profile side did that when I gave him my phone number, and Google gave him my full name, address, and profession. I learned from that never to give my phone number on these sites. So if I were looking to join Fet now, I'd never sign up.

In the comments people are pointing out that you can send text messages from borrowed numbers on a PC.

And asking about people who don't have text capabilities.

You can get a virtual phone number and receive text message. There are programs out there like TextMagic, Twilio and others. I think there are some apps to for virtual phone numbers.

I have an account on Fet and as far as I have been able to tell (and this is just the latest rumor) Is that you only get to invite one person a year and only if you are a Fet supporter. But as I said thats just the latest rumor I don't really pay much attention to how they run the place I just use it to chat with friends and perv writings and such.

If you read their announcements it states the plan is to give supporters 1 invite for every 2 months of support. So if you supported the site for 6 months you would get 3 invites. Non supporters will get invites but no details were given on when and how much. And they also stated trouble makers would not get any as well as loose their account

Meh. I think it's all very haphazard and not thought through. They knee-jerked everything, and it's a mess.

But, it's John's site, and he can do what he wants with it.

I'm happy that they came up with something that was not invite-only.

I do think it could have been better planned. But I do applaud they recognized there was a problem and actively did something about it. Unlike CS who has let the socks over run the site. It could have been executed better. It would have been nice for them to send out an email explaining the problem and what they are doing to solve the problem. Instead a very vague statements have been made in the announcements section. Great intentions but poorly executed

Did they?

Here's how they explained the problem...

So it was a "combination of many reasons", none of which were explained at all. This is what generated so much suspicion and mistrust. There still remains no actual explanation of why this entire crisis, and subsequent change in policy occurred.

Apparently, their concept of how to make Fetlife better is entirely about who can join, and seems to have little to do with fixing bugs, making features that are useful and actually work, or improving overall site performance.

read it will not take you long...no-one knows the exact reasons.

They should delete the whole data base of users..as should this place...and have them all rejoin and they can moderate them from point origin....not perfect but better..how does one remove a liar, a scoundrel, a cheat, a sophist, millions of stolen imagery...dont type that on any of their forums if your a man you will get banned...if you are a women you can say pretty much anything even if all your pictures are stolen...and so on

To start your own site is actually fairly simple - you can even just do a plain olde forum site
