Tweakabelle, if you actually knew half of what you think you do about the United States, you might actually understand the situation. First, you have political parties that build election campaigns around specific segments of the population to gain their votes, which on the surface sounds like a good idea, until you stop and look at the total party agenda, which rarely follows the promises made to minorities, but allows the candidate to come back during re election and claim they tried. Let me give you a great example, using the current gun debate: Some years ago, it came to the attention of congress that gun retailers were being sued for selling guns to people, who by law, legally could not purchase a gun, but the back ground checks were coming back clean. In other words, the retailer followed the law, got a favorable response on the back ground check and sold the weapon, and then they were being sued by the survivors or victims for selling a gun to a prohibited person. So congress passed a bill that was signed into law that prevents such lawsuits, learning during the hearings that the reason the back ground checks were coming back clean was because it was not mandatory for that information to be submitted to the national data base used for back ground checks. The bill had overwhelming support of both pro gun republicans and anti gun democrats (many of whom have supported the various gun ban bills introduced over the years.) Now, were these congress members who sponsor the ban bills looking out for their constituents that want guns banned or looking out for someone else? Or take affirmative action. Colleges have minimum grade standards for admission, using two entrance exam tests, ACT and SAT. To get accepted, on the surface you have to be above a set grade. However, under Affirmative Action, private and state colleges have to have a minimum number of minority students to qualify for federal grants and assistance. If the number of qualified minority students is lower than the minimum needed, then the colleges accept minority students who are below the minimum grade required, over a white student that has met the minimum grade for acceptance. Affirmative action laws are written to benefit minorities and women, and if the student happens to be a minority female, they get credit for two classifications. If the applicant is a minority female from a lower income bracket, the school gets credit on three levels, even if they do not meet the minimum grade average the school requires for admission. Of course, traditionally black or minority schools are exempt from affirmative action, as is traditionally female schools. Then you have the 'Black Lives Matter' movement, wonderful thought until you look at the statistics, white males are still shot by cops at a rate of two for every one black, and Hispanic males are 1 and a half times more likely to be shot by police than black males. When it comes to illegal aliens, the debate centers on illegals from Mexico and Central America, hence Trump's wall on the Mexico border. They seem to ignore the fact that Asians are smuggled into the United States in equal numbers, many times arriving in modified shipping containers in conditions that would have made the slave ships of the slave era look like luxury cruises. As for the civil war memorials, the large scale protests are a recent thing, some of those statues are over a hundred years old and only NOW they are a problem? Give me a fucking break. I believe in equal rights for all races, sexes, and religions, but my idea of equal rights does not include special consideration because of religion, race or sex. Equal rights means just that equal.
