It is not just in the US that have anti-discrimination and anti-harassment polices. Most companies (leaving out micro and self employed) here in the UK also include these in Company Manuals or Orientation processes. I remember when I was younger David Cassidy came to London. No hotel would have him to stay for fear of his fans being disruptive to other residents. Instead they arranged for him to have a boat moored on the Thames. Even then young girls mostly under 18 were jumping into the river to try to get to the boat. I see that as the girls "throwing themselves" at him. I wonder, now that he is dead, how many women are going to claim he sexually assualted them. I have worked in the media and have seen the lengths some women will go to in order to get close to an actor or presenter they like or think will help them get on in the media world. It was well known in the 70's that if you got close to certain DJ's you might get invited to meet your favourite group or pop star. It happened and it was different time and a different world back then. To drag things up 20 or 30 years later is beyond ridiculous.

You're projecting there. I never claimed current laws are enough to protect. I do believe they are, though. I'm not in favor of anyone in power being able to wield undue influence, and/or get away with abuse or harassment. Had these women come forward back then, and had people stood up for them, it would have been dealt with years ago. You think you know about US Anti-discrimination laws and anti-harassment laws, all the while demonstrating you don't. Weinstein, et. al. wouldn't be in the news if what they did wasn't illegal when they did it. If it was legal, these women would be little more than whiners with no ground to stand on. I would have to wonder if they'd be committing a defamation crime. But, what the accused are alleged to have done was illegal when the allegedly did them. I'm hoping the statute of limitations doesn't prevent appropriate consequences from being applied to those found guilty.

I don't think what your boss said to you was appropriate. You don't mind it, but it's wrong. And it's not professional. Someone needs to read RS guide to when is it appropriate to sexualise women!

I'll even expand the definition to: "spent six months' time here, working (or not), paying rent/mortgage. Have you ever vacationed, here? We'll define that as spent more than six days in a row. Have you ever spent a "long weekend" here? We'll call that three or four days. Seriously, I'm curious and I ask because I'm wondering upon what your knowledge of this country is based.

The longest I have spent vacationing in your country is 6 weeks, although, it was split between california, hawaii and Washington, never been to other states besides these ones. But no I have not lived there for 6 months. And one of my brothers have lived there for 16 years, married an American woman and is practically spending the rest of his life there. BTW, you do realise the flight from SG to US is like freaking long, so if anybody bothers to fly there, they are gonna spend way more than 6 days to make the flight time worth it. And the other thing, America is made up of many tiny different "countries", so even within you Americans cannot agree with each other what America is about. Take for example, when I said at one point of time, there is a big heroin problem and epidemic of Americans dying of heroin overdose. Quite a few Americans said it was totally bullshit and America does not have a Heroin problem at all. Which is like, serious bullshit when statistics said differently. And some Americans agree and felt it in their area.
