I'll have to agree with the Moderator on this one. It's sad when folks have to resort to name-calling when someone else has a contrasting opinion.

I think that ALL of us need to collectively work on tolerance.

You know those young women that acted out sexually in a self abusive way without regard to their own welfare? Well they were the ones that were sexualized. I wanted to tell TreSwank, you should think about informing your dates that you do not want to hear their abuse stories before they share them with you, it is kinder than letting them expose themselves to your ridicule. I wouldn't share such things with anyone until I was sure they really liked me on a deep level, but for the sake of sparing their feelings and your ears, tell em up front you don't wanna hear it before they spill it.

It's not ridicule, as much as awkward, uncomfortable silences, and me changing to subject. A few women have told me, "I'm surprised that you don't get smacked all the time with the looks you give people." Sometimes, it surprises me as well.

There is what seems an avalanche of extreme sexual behaviour by young girls and boys nowadays; there are "sex clubs" in high schools now, how much of this is spawned from sexual abuse? Certainly some of it, and I'd think some of it is from the sexualizing of society in general.

All I'm saying is that some "messed up" people look for a place to fit, or for something they can use to draw attention or compassion into their life, and claiming sexual abuse "works" for them. I also think some (and I can't emphasize that word strongly enough)... some that may have genuine complaints refuse to do whatever work is needed to heal; they allow victimhood to be a label on their life. This, of course, does not in any way lessen the fact that they were violated. And most make do as best they can to fix what was damaged and build a happy life. Lastly, I don't intend on any of what I said to demean or hurt those that have been victimized.

That is certainly possible, julia, but there's no true way to know. I suppose the best we can do is try to help those that need it, and keep an open eye for those who would make false claims. If I had the choice of helping an abused child, and "busting" a lying one, I'd choose the victim. We can't fix everything and we have to pick our fights.
