That about summed it up in a sentence!

A slave is still a human being and chances are if they are not getting from the relationship what they want or need they will not be in that relationship for very long.

Maybe because you value them as a slave and a human being?
 
Possible because they have put so much time into pleasing you?
 
Perhaps because if you love something, be it a dog, cat, car or a house you spend time taking care of it and keeping it in good operating order?
 
Could it be that a happy well cared for slave is going to provide better service than a mentally, emotionally and physically run down one?
 
Scooter and Jewel might not be true and real owners since they do take the time to see that i am pleased, happy, content and well cared for but i think you may find many who would disagree with you there.

And yes, both Scooter and Jewel make sure i am enjoying life, that i have stuff i want to do, supplies for my hobbies, tools for working on the bikes,  books i love to read, things that please me.
 
 Jewel ordered the rest of a set of Steven King books under the guise of having suddenly developed a passion to read them herself because she knew i would be uncomfortable about her spending that kind of money on books when i would wait until they were on sale.
 
Scooter spent a good bit of time last week finding exactly the perfect pair of fuzzy slippers in my favorite color and size because he knew i would not and he wanted to keep me happy and warm.
 
They have even stopped to push me to go pick out stuff when we are shopping or flea marketing etc because they think i hold back and only choose one or two things when in truth i am just not a wanting type of person.

Granted a Master has to look out for the slaves well being. But they are not there to kiss the slaves ass.  As for me I have no interest in owning a slave.

Status: offline 		If a Dominant does not or is not supposed to care about pleasing the slave, why do slave profiles allow them to select areas of interest and skill levels, why bother searching for a particular type of sub or slave, why not just pick one and get to it, and why do Dominants almost always ask what a slave is trained in and enjoys in the lifestyle when interviewing them?
If you aren't going to care about pleasing them in the future, why make them think you do in the beginning? It can't be defined as "a relationship" unless you care about each other. If you don't, it's just a convenient excuse for non-commitment promiscuity.
I wouldn't want a slave I didn't care about pleasing in some way each day. I like them devoted and loyal. I don't believe I (nor anyone else) would be able to keep one for long (except in a cage or shackles) if I were unconcerned with their happiness...in the immortal words of Jayne, "...Where does that get fun?"
Maybe I am confused; but I thought the whole point was to develop a relationship.
Just my opinion, and I stand by my words.

Status: offline 		It's not about kissing their ass, it's about respecting them as a HUMAN.  If I were a slave and were constantly treated much like how I've been treated at particular jobs, I sure as HELL wouldn't stay with that Owner, much like I didn't stay with those jobs.  Who wants to stay/work for an asshole?

I will certaintly respect his limits as I will expect mine are as well. First and foremost. The slave should be pleased to even be a part of MY life.

Sooo...

Outside of play....when you humiliate (if that's what you do) and step on them (again, if that's what you do), even metaphorically speaking, do you treat them with the same level of malcontent and disrespect?  Or do you compliment them on their level of service, smile at them and perhaps pat them on the head?

It's not about kissing their asses.  It's showing them respect and acting in such a way that makes them want to STAY.

Status: offline 		Enlighten me please. What is the purpose of owning a slave verse having a submissive.?  Losttreasure. I left out owning a submissive on purpose. This was only about slaves. It seems we have slaves acting like submissives here.

You are looking for paying clients not relationships so that does make a difference. In reality you probably spend 90% of your time pleasing these paying subs/slaves as they are paying you for a service, if they are not pleased by what you provide they will cease being your clients and look elsewhere.

I think the submissives comment was to bring up the fact that NO relationship is going to last if all partners concerned are not getting what they want or need from it.
