Now, I'm not even going to read that headline...don't know if it's pro WalMart or con....not important (don't wanna know).

I just did an estimate for my tax accountant (gotta do it every year at this time) and, last year I just about threw up on what I was going to pay in taxes (it was an astronomical/disgusting amount),...actually shocked the shit out of me) this year, my projected taxes are almost 3 times last years.... (Not said to impress...just to clarify, I can afford to shop elsewhere...I don't).

I shop at WalMart.  I love the place.

(And my friends would be shocked that I do {but oddly...they ALL love my shirts}).

My shirts cost 17 bucks (yeah, I know....but I've checked, and your stories about sweat shops just ain't true) and they look better than anything I USED to buy from Nordstroms for $125.00 ea.

(And by the way....4 of the 9 suppliers that Nordstroms uses...are suppliers to WalMart...all of which are suppliers of my WalMart shirts).

I pretty much only buy shirts from WalMart (as to clothes), the rest is Tupperware, pots and pans and of course, food.

All of which are the same products everyone else buys from Albertsons, Safeway, Kohls, J C Penny, K-Mart, Costco, and a variety of others...but for 10 - 65% less.

(And I'm all good with that).

Unfortunately the nearest Wal-Mart to me is a 75 mile round trip. I can't save enough
money to pay for the gas so I don't go shopping there very often. :(

I'm of Scottish ancestry and frugality is in my blood and WM appeals to
that part of as well as Big Lots, which used to be named McFrugals,
and dollar stores.

When I lived in Chalmette, LA I was in Frugal heaven. WalMart, Big Lots and
Dom depot were all in the same mall with 3-4 dollar stores across the street.
WalMart closed and opened a Super WalMart just 1/4 mile from the old location.

All of it was destroyed by Katrina.

Since Wal-Mart lost the lawsuit, as they should have, it will not effect my shopping habits.

I have boycotted Target for no longer allowing the Salvation Army santas in front of
the stores. But I have switched the to boycott to the Salvation Army as they denied
assistance any to me  after Katrina. The SA will never get another cent out of me.

The Red Cross on the other hand was fantastic and FEMA came through beyond expectations.

I have never and will never set foot in one.  Costco however, is the complete opposite, it actually pays it workers HIGHER than average, so high in fact that Wallstreet bitches about it.

If you slap a smiley face sticker on the person after you shoot him -- or even better, some combination of a smiley face and the American flag , it will speed up the acceptance of the image of your practices as Good and American. Before long, it'll be considered un-American to not shoot people and steal their goods, and people will start saying how they really have no choice but to shoot people to take their things because if it werent for shooting people and taking their goods, they couldnt afford to acquire the necessities of life such as cheap plastic garbage made in China, Frito-Lay products and a television for every room in the house.

I can't stand Wal-mart or their policies for employees at all.  I have a good friend that has worked there over 10 years now, and can still hear the inside part of what goes on.
 
They are now making employees wear "uniforms", but they very nicely supplied them with two shirts.  They just have to buy the pants, shoes, and any more shirts they want.  Of course, they don't stop and think that most workers there, can't even afford their rent some months, and haven't bought new clothes in sometimes years.  They are putting salary caps on all employees.  Once you reach this amount, you won't get another raise unless you are promoted.  They always talk about how employees are family, but they treat them like the unwanted stepchildren.  It's the workers that help each other, not the place of business.  With the holidays coming up, it brings back fond memories of 9 and 10 hr shifts with maybe two ten min. breaks if you were lucky.  They got away with this, though I am not sure how.
 
I think what makes it worse, is I know all of this, and still have to shop there.  No store is perfect, and a good portion don't pay crap to employees.  When I move some place there is a way to shop somewhere different, goodness knows I will.  The fact is, they are cheaper and I don't have much of a choice.  You do what you can to help you and yours, and hope maybe things will change down the road.

Actually, Im an alleged "professional" and I work many a twelve and thirteen hour shift without a break, and one half hour break is taken out of my check.
Big corporations can do just about anything they want to.

Crappy, that is exactly why I shop at Costco.
I'd rather spend my money in a store that takes good care of their employees.

Uhm...just for the record (try to hold on to your indignity)...Costco buys 38% of their merchandise from wholesalers that manufacture in China. 

(WalMarts number is closer to 31%).

I find this interesting.. my mother works in a Sams Club in PA.  They make her take breaks even when she isn't entitled to them....
