Physical attraction is a must for most folks whether they say it or not, but on the flip side I have lost desires over time once I saw past physical attributes.

What about the flip side?
How important is the pic we put out there?
Are we prepared to look natural?
Or do we spend hours making up, getting ready for the pics we are prepared to show online to others?

I'd prefer to look good, made up etc but in every day life i dont always look like that so tend to use natural pics now.

Natural?  What the heck is that?  Me walking into a glass door, me tripping over my feet.  Not a pretty sight, but me most natural..  I, for one, don't photograph well, so in person meetings, if based on the superficial, usually tend to go over  well.  But, I know if I had to spend more than five minutes on makeup, I'd just have to stay ugly cute or hide in the bell tower or just be mean and moody (wait, I am moody) and hate on all the pretty people while I long for BP to show up in that cute little outfit he had on in "Troy"..  you know the outfit when he jumps up in the air and his bum sticks out just ever so lightly, um what was I talking about just before I said BP?  Never mind.

Oh yeah, I'm going to get a picture of me rolling right out of bed; and post that one real soon.

have you ever contacted someone based on their picture, because you found them attractive, only to find out they are nothing like you hoped?

Yes, but it was actally his bike i was commenting on *grins*  He turned out to be not only attactive on the outside but even more so on the inside.

No, I judge people on personality not on looks.  What is inside is way more important then what's on the outside.

I person can be beautiful until they open their mouths, then turn out to be the ugliest person ever. And a fairly average person can be stunnng when their inner self shines through.

I would rather be preceived or judged on what is me, not on how I look. Being as I consider myself pretty average to see but i hope my personality shines enough to attract like minded people.

I have been around some very physically beautiful people who were so shallow and stupid that they became ugly.
And I know common looking, plain people who are so awesome and passionate that they are beautiful.

But, when someone is not healthy or when they are lazy, and have bad teeth, I have no sexual desire for them.  I can't get hot over someone who neglects themselves.

Except I encourage people to make judgements of me...and I certainly do of them.  Isn't that what mature and intelligent adults do- make (hopefully good) judgements?  Isn't that the privilege of finally being "adult"?

I expect and accept that people will judge me as I will judge them on what i view as my criteria.

But I've never been driven to make people like me. They either do or they don't, that's the way of life.

If a strangers doesn't like me, that's ok because it really has no impact on my life *S* I like me and that is the most important thing.

For me it depends on if the stranger does have no impact on my life- if I'm running a meeting, I need them to respect my authority and position.  If I'm wanting a job I need them to be impressed with my manner and skills.  If I'm wanting to be remembered positively, I need to stand out and be remembered positively.

And generally, I DO care how I am perceived by others- I take care in my typing on the boards here, I word things carefully, I try and check references on a few facts.  I'm always representing who I am, and while I may be quite comfortable in who that is, that doesn't mean I don't care about the image I project or how it will be perceived by others.  I think being socially aware of myself is a very good thing.

I like this thread.

1. I posted pics on a previous profile and they were stolen so I don't post anymore, and I would encourage others to be wary as well.

2. I think that everyone should be the best that they can be. This means being in good shape, taking good care of hair, nails, teeth, etc. What attracts me to someone is not necessarily what they were born with, but what they have done with it. Stylish clothing and good hygeine can go a long way. Unfort. I have not seen much of either on many emails I have received.

3. Intelligence, a desire to never stop learning, and a good sense of humor are a must.

4. I don't think its fair for any of us to settle for anything less than a combo of #3 and #4.

I tend to avoid men who have pics in their profiles.
I'm not sure why..but sometimes it shouts of"look at me I'm so damned hot"
If I hadn't been told to post picks I would not have any in mine.
I got a lot of mail with out one.So I don't think it matters if you are looking for a partner. It's always nice to know that a person read your  words and thats why they wrote to you.
I started talking to Master before I had a pic up.I was 70 lbs heavier in the pic.
The first time I saw Master's pic was two weeks after initial contact via collarme.I was shocked.*He was not what I had pictured yet I had already become so enamored with His  demeanor it didnt matter. And suddenly He was exactly the hottest man I had ever seen.

*I was not expecting dark hair and dark eyes..and I was expecting nerdy and somehow easier to control..I was fresh into trying to learn/accept my submissive side and coming out of my vanila "calling  all the shots"lifestyle. His pic effectivly set me back on my heels.I thought I should explain that because it reads like He is the "elephant man" and He is not  unattractive by any measure.~I generally don't mesh well with a man who is extremely good looking. They are too high maintenance, but in a Master..that works well.
just sayin'

I agree, but you can be respected with out being liked. You can impress people with your skills and your abilities with out them or yourself feeling you need to intereact on a personal level.

This is what I meant.

I would never go out of my way to be crass, arrogant or negative to anyone. What I meant is that just because someone you meet does not like you one a personal level doesn not mean you have to fall apart or obess over why that person does not like you.

I know people that if every one they meet does not want to be their friend they obess over why, or what they did wrong. It's like they need verification from strangers that they are worthy or likeable. Where as i know i'm likeable and intelligent and don't need verification from ramdom others to prove it to me.

I understand and realize you are not that type of person either LA *S* you come across as very straight forward, intelligent and well thought out on your posts here. So please don't think i'm attacking you. I just want to clarify what i ment.

I just feel that a person should be able to be true to themselves and not live thier life trying to appease others that really have no bearing on their day to day life.

The briefest meeting with someone can impact the course of our lives, but we should not be so focused on how others preceive us that we lose ourselves in the process.

For me, looks matter to a point - a person has to have decent hygiene & grooming habits. Other than that, it depends on the inner person. Oh, and absolutely no smoking (for more than friends). Mind you, I have a difficult time with exceptionally beautiful people... true or not, they give me the impression of high maintanance... *shrugs*... just the way it is. I prefer getting to know someone (online) through emails/chat/messaging before sending/recieving pics... for safety (myself) and to make sure we're not wasting each other's time. If attitude/personality/etc. didn't matter, I'd have a doll or cut-out of my dream girl and be content with that.  The other BIG turn off for me, even after chatting and exchanging pics, is smell. If a person has an offensive smell to them, I don't care how pretty and/or intelligent they are. The relationship will NEVER get physical (hence, the no smoking criteria).

Does anyone else have a deal breaker for attractive & intelligent person becoming a lover/playmate/whatever? C'mon.... I can't be the only one!!!

I may be taking the shallow route here, but yes, looks do matter...I expect to be attractive to my sub and vice-versa. Playing with someone who doesn't necessarily tickle my pickle (or lack thereof) doesn't push me to try as hard...it's all a question of desire...

Don't get mo wrong, even if someone is drop dead gorgeous to me, doesn't mean that they can be as dumb as a phone pole...I guess I'm a little difficult, but I can live with that.

Hello A/all,

I personally dislike the pictures I have posted.  Although people send me the odd email and tell me they look nice.

Go figure?
