considering alchahol does not speek I do not think that it can give concent.

well there was this one time a Newcastle spoke to me, but I could understand it's frustration, It was on special at the bar that night and I had already consumed several of it's close relitives.

The bottom line is S/some P/pl use it and O/others seem to have an irrational dislike for it.

Many of us hold a quite rational dislike for it, thanks.

I'm with you, justheather. It's a waste of effort, making writing and reading more cumbersome. So many people have such poor writing skills to begin with, do we really need to divert their attention from good communication to unnecessary protocol?

I think is it an internet...affectaion. In a real life personal encounter, respect  and courtesy are shown in  ways, that are more obvious. Here on the net, is it a way for people to approximate the same thing

I was once in conversation with a real and true Domme.  I decided to mess with her, and started doing the You, me, i, Her, and the like.

Then I went so far as to refer to Her Couch, but my couch.  Friends of mine (fictional) would no longer get capitals.

She asked me about it, I told her anything of hers was capital, anything of mine was lowercase.  She commended me on being well trained, and how very few people knew the real rules.

That was the last time we spoke.

If you like it and use it, and I am interested in what you have to say, I'll deal with it. I will respect your right to use upper and lower case letters so long as you respect my right not to do so...What is right for one may or may not be, or feel, right to everyone....

For me it is like reading another language. It does not  bother me any more than translating a word that has the additional meaning of "spoken with respect".

I can't stand it.  Whenever people type like that it's a bunch of stutter nonsense.

Awwwcommon :)  There ARE some out there that have no idea who is being addressed when somone is posting.  The slash/speak is for those remeadial D/s-ers.  It also helps remind those with short-term memory  just who is sub and dom.

Yes, I find it highly annoying and I generally skip over posts that use it.

Don't EVEN get me started on this. This is right up there with ebonics, and listening to Hilary Clinton talk with a phony regional accent, in the annoying department. I think anyone who types like this, should be forced to read the ENTIRETY of"War and Peace". typeset in this manner.

Of course if it makes them happy, who are millions of us to judge?

I think it's affected and annoying - but it beats the hell out of the third person.  "this one wishes to be worthy of YOU" gets on my last nerve.

That's a very good point. I often don't read posts that have any feature which makes it annoying. Such features include the aforementioned slash technique, lack of proper punctuation and/or capitalization, and "cell-phone text speak" such as "What ru up4 doing 2nite?"

Everyone has the right to write as they please, but if they want their posts to be read more widely, they'll learn how to write properly.

To advocates and proponents of slash speak, I say only:

If Y/you need M/me to validateY/your P/position in M/y speech, is Y/your P/position that S/stable?  If Y/you need to validate Y/yourself in T/this way, I/I(sic) would say S/slash speak is the least of Y/your W/worries.
