Edited for the grammar.  *laughing*  Fuck you Benji.

The bottom line is S/some P/pl use it and O/others seem to have an irrational dislike for it.

So because "you" like and use it means that you are rational while others are irrational?
If I have misunderstood what you meant, I apologize.

i used "slash speak" as a search phrase and pulled up 18 threads, the most recent in May of this year.

The bottom line is S/some P/pl use it and O/others seem to have an irrational dislike for it.

i happen to use it and like it.  Feel free to block my posts, but honestly, i don't think there's one original comment to be made on the subject, and N/no O/one ever changes T/their mind, as far as i can tell.

candystripper

I don't think a dislike of it is "irrational" at all.  It is improper grammar.  How is disliking it "irrational?"

I was wondering the very same thing...  I haven't read the rest of the thread, but this was my gut reaction as soon as I read her post here, and others in the past under the nic of pinkee.  I just don't see a preference as being irrational - it's just not for me to judge.

edited to add:

I don't use slash speak on the boards, however, I use it in my journaling out of respect for my Daddy, who quite likes it.  As for me, I think it's kind of annoying on the eyes, but He likes it, and it's not like I use it in all my writing (i.e., work, personal writings, etc.) everyday, so it's not a big deal...  But calling someone's opinion "irrational" because it is not aligned with one's own, IMHO, is irrational.

Yeah... what they said ^

The only thing I'd like to point out with obesity is this: it is an addiction with food. With alcohol, you STOP consuming alcohol. With smoking, you STOP smoking. You CAN NOT stop eating. So, imho, it is the worst addiction - it must be fed, so you can live. For those of you who don't think it's such a big deal, would you insist that an alcoholic have 3 little shots of liquor a day, but critisize them for not kicking their addiction? I seriously doubt it... you'd likely think it cruel & defeatist. Yet, that is what obese people face every single day.

I'd like to agree w/ the others that you are smart to bring up excellent points that are often forgotten.

===========

Overall - *IF* someone is going to get mad at you for NOT typing that way... it just seems rather silly "to me", just my opinion yanno?

Anyways, to each their own.

Many of us hold a quite rational dislike for it, thanks.

A rational dislike would be proportionate to the facts.  It might be based on personal preference, grammatical correctness, legibility, etc.  An irrational dislike is one the rises to the level of anger or even miffed, and seeks to control the conduct of O/others.

Did that help any?

Furthermore...

Typing in this [Y/you] manner is an easy way to give a slight appearance of being submissive and subservient, but holds no valid meaning of a persons' real character traits.

Ya.....I gotta say that I agree.  It seems to fit into the same sort of category as the folks who have to tell me constantly that they're a true, real, genuine, honest-to-goodness, born and dyed-in-the-wool slave.  My slashes and capital letters you are if you're having to tell me rather than show me!

Interesting.  You'll find something completely different in historical books dating back to Victorian times, as well as in Viola Johnson's biographical book To Love, To Obey, To Serve: Diary of an Old Guard Slave.  Slash speak didn't seem to exist much before the internet if you take to actual written SM-oriented literature.

This statement could not be more wrong.  For one thing, you don't mean "lower case" and "upper case"; you mean "minuscule" and "majuscule."  And factually you're incorrect too.  The Roman alphabet had no minuscule, and Greek minuscules developed centuries after the majuscule.

You're my hero for even knowing the word majuscule.

Ja, I did my share of wearing of the green, though hardly Irish. Don't know that everybody got the implication because of the immense respect being intoned throughout, but I am glad you caught it.

I come up with a floater ever so often.

Thanks,

Yep, I caught it too, but I was down in VA for a ceremony in Quantico on the anniversary, instead of raising a glass in my hometown where it all began......or catching and commenting on your post LOL

Its the above lack of compassion and understanding that cause many obese to remain obese.

And as a fat woman, I'll say that it's this sentiment that keeps fat people looking like retarded, lazy whiners in others eyes.  My bad habits (eating and scheduling) as well as a sedentary lifestyle and choice pharmacologics got me here.  Only *I* can get me out of this place.  Someone elses stupid sentiment OR lack of compassion does NOTHING to effect change on my outward appearance or number on the scale.  Absolutely Nothing.

Why do people have such a hard time taking ownership of their issues?
