Apologies accepted :) & accepted happily.
I suppose I fight because I always have. I was the kid at the playground who protected the picked on kids. If I see something broken, I try to fix it.
Even if it is indeed hopeless I will try. I would be gravely disappointed in myself if I just let 'bad things' float on by without doing something about it.
One of my first posts on this thread mentioned how I personally think part of this is because of my American culture & upbringing. We are taught that it is our right to fight against inequity & injustice.
This fast eroding of our privacy and our rights is to me both an injustice & inequity.

It is something I believe in with every fiber of my being.
Jeez this thread really needs international patriotic music!
:)

I admire you for that - standing up for what you believe is an admirable thing. I just dont feel strongly enough about this to stand up for it. The brits tend to believe in freedom very strongly too though maybe not so much as americans. Im just someone who can relax and say what will be will be. id rather fight the causes i have a chance of winning than put my energies into those i havent got a hope in hell with.

Honestly though if you have nothing to hide does it really matter? I would rather have the protection of all this than not. So the government knows where i am - i go nowhere im ashamed of. So they know what ive bought and where - so what im not ashamed of anything i buy.

you miss the point entirely, it has nothing to do with hiding. it has ever thing to do with the democracy and my right to privacy that was afforded to me by the consttitution that you can now use to wipe your ass with.

with respect i cannot miss a point you have not clearly made other than maybe a few comments hidden in rather long threads and you tube videos.

There is a quote which goes along the lines of giving me strength to accept the things i cant change etc etc. I just think rather than waste time fighting things you cant change concentrate on those you can.

i didnt paste those links because this cant be changed.  we do still have a tiny bit of democratic process left in this country.

I am shocked to hear anyone say they trust government.

I see your point but it would not take hundreds of agents to track what you do now. One click on collar me would find you and tracing your ip addy would then give them relevant info to find you. I have signed a government petition to keep the right to have my ass kicked consensually of course but i doubt it will do much good. I would contrary to popular belief sign a petition against id cards as well but my hopes of that not coming to pass but again i doubt what good it will do. I dont see it will make much change to be honest - the government controls now, the government will control when id cards become law all be it a little easier.

I'm not doing anything illegal here at present that is why I'm here. If they banned sites like this it would just move underground and everyone would be adviced to use anonymous IP services as not to be tracked.

It doesn't really apply about me using this site, because as of present I'm not skirting something that is illegal. If it becomes illegal, I'll cancel my account. And be a good citizen

Ah the wondrous guardian lol. You come stay with me and ill show the sights and sounds of the mighty bradford where the whites are second class citizens.
I dont disagree with you that we are losing certain freedoms but i do argue that there is nothing we can do. There are not enough people who will be willing to stand up and argue against to be effective. Why waste time and energy on the inevitable?

miss, to call it as I see it this post is a good example of where we're going wrong.

1) You're fighting the wrong people. You have far more in common with the average British Asian than you do with our government (I don't know you personally but I do know a lot about the working-classes).

2) Apathy is getting the better of us. It's only inevitable because we're prepared to accept it. There are civil liberties and human rights groups lobbying Parliament and challenging laws in European courts. Where there is enough public pressure they will have to sit up and take notice.

Ok how about this.  Because we are rapidly becoming a totalitarian police state.

i mean this is leading to a complete history lesson and how this government is supposed to function compared to how it does and it frankly is all out there on the web and is way beyond what i am willing to do here frankly.  Maybe someone else has a better more succinct way to say it then i do

1) You're fighting the wrong people.
Who am i fighting? Im not saying anyones opinion is wrong just that fighting the inevitable is pointless to me. Does that make a fight?
You have far more in common with the average British Asian than you do with our government
No i really do not!! I really think you need to do some real research on the place i live and see what it is like to be the second class citizen. Not the guardian either - a source of reality i think not.
(I don't know you personally but I do know a lot about the working-classes).
Ah so im working class am i? You know this?

Yes i think that many people have probably said it far better than you. If you believe in a cause at least stand your corner instead of hiding behind the words of others and abstract links.

Apathy. Thankyou. I guess I can sum it up as being a fighter against apathy. That is why I fight what missturbation sees as a useless battle. Someone has to. Knowledge is power. Power means ability. I want *yesss it is a dream* the perfect balance of world peace and individualism! I've got to add that I am quitting smoking erm, have quit this week so I am a wee bit touchier than my norm. However I will always stand up when I can. I am not prepared to accept anything less from myself.
I will even do it from a wheelchair *s*.

It makes a slight difference yes. Americans are INSTILLED from childhood with the idea that freedom is forever and lasting. It is the foundation of this very country and it is the basis for our society. That is the only diff I can see.

Hey!  What'd you cut this stuff with??  GASOLINE??  You wanna watch me fry, eh?? Where's my Glock!

Anyhoo, the world is definitely a changin.  That doesn't bother me.  What bothers me is that in every situation in history where leaders were given absolute power, that very power led to abuse, misery, and death.  Only now, that power isn't just over our lives, but also over the habitability of the planet.  One hundred years ago, the most brutal war waged would have barely dented this planet's environment and it's other species.  Today, we have the power to render it completely, totally, and utterly dead, and radioactive long enough to keep it that way.

Agreed Stephann except for the sad maudlin song. Oh, and.. Glock? I spit on your Glock. I have a bbgun that would put that Glock to shame!
