Elegant -> RE: What does a sub look/sound like? (3/5/2007 7:31:07 PM)

Can ya tell that one of my pet peeves is using the term 'sub' for 'submissive person'?

(I also don't like to use the term 'dom')

MistressWolfen -> RE: What does a sub look/sound like? (3/5/2007 7:36:05 PM)

In Canada a "sub" is a sandwich (not sure if that terminology is used elsewhere) and Goddess knows what a dom is. I believe it is suppossed to be in caps though Elegant; as in DOM or DOMME instead of dominant *nods kinda sagely*. Yes, I agree it is a rather irritating use of language.

I received a message today that started me thinking... and perhaps this question has been asked before but here goes anyway. The message I received said exactly this (verbatim): "i must say , your words and pix do not seem submissive. this is by no means a criticism,not at all, just a casual observation"

My question is:  What does a sub look / sound like?  How do they carry themselves, and talk to others?  Is there some sort of expectation when it comes to a subs personality or appearance?

Respectfully,

I was at a Munch the other day and a Dom said something like, "You're a submissive I'm guessing." I said yes and asked him how he knew. He said it was the way I kept looking down when speaking.
To people who know what I am, I seem very submissive. But to the ones who don't, they see me as very dominate and demanding.  It's completely weird how both can happen.

Elegant -> RE: What does a sub look/sound like? (3/5/2007 7:42:41 PM)

Ahh yes...The sub sandwich.

Apperance: Elongated with light brown outer skin and lighter subdermis. Filled with deli meats, cheese and condiments.
Conveyance: Wrapped in waxed paper and carried in the hand of the diner.
Communication: Usually mute unless lettuce and/or other vegetables are crunchy.

bearincuffs -> RE: What does a sub look/sound like? (3/5/2007 7:47:40 PM)

And don't forget the sub sauce for that finishing touch!

i have received this very same message when i had my ad on.  i wrote back and said  'And do you have nothing better to do than to comment on profiles that are of no interest to you?'  i never heard back.

Yep....not a criticism, just an observation.  Who really cares what that person thinks?  i say to them...get a life, loser!  [:'(]

LMAO -- some of these responses are EXCELLENT and exactly what I expected to hear.  It's not that I was seeking a particular response, but more of a general thought process.  I always like to hear what everyone thinks -- and THANK YOU to those that didn't take this completely seriously -- your responses were hilarious!!  [sm=biggrin.gif]

I do agree that I deserve a severe punishment [sm=crop.gif]for using the word "sub" rather than "submissive" -- my apologies to anyone that may have taken that offensively.

Respectfully,

Ive usually found..MKNKPHHFFTTT...works. Oh.... dont forget the drool.

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: What does a sub look/sound like? (3/5/2007 9:15:38 PM)

The reality of course is that plenty of subs DROOL and SWOON when fed a line like that, and plenty of subs are more than willing to throw it right back at the doms (hence the plethora of "a sub told me I acted too nice to be a dom" threads.)

Stereotypes in the scene are alive and well- but it's nice to see a thread like this which illuminates the humor in them.

Aine -> RE: What does a sub look/sound like? (3/5/2007 9:42:41 PM)

This is something that has baffled me as well at times.

Especially since I one day received an email saying that the pic of my eyes screamed that I had the soul of a slave.

I just hadn't realized that I was a slave yet.

*scratches head*

For some reason...I think I'm pretty well aclimated with myself to be able to readily say that it'd be a far stretch for me to become a slave.  And for someone to "tell" me what I am....well that's just rude. [:'(][:D]

WhiplashSmile -> RE: What does a sub look/sound like? (3/5/2007 10:29:36 PM)

I will only make comments with regards to elements of your picture.  I mean no offense.. please hear me out..
  • The angle of the camera is from below you.  Where as you appear to be standing above the viewer.  Hence a suggestion by angle of shot that you are in a position over the viewer.   Like they are kneeing on the floor looking at you.
  • Gym Equipment in the background.  Small subtle thing... this is associated with being athletic.  Althlets are competitive and like to kick ass.
  • The dress you are wearing is Bold - Black and White design.  This may suggest that you have a powerful persona, and suggests it's either one way or not with you.  Hence Black or White... My way or the highway type of feel to it.
  • You body position is not in a submissive stance.  Looks like you are expressing "Well what the hell are you going to do about it now" type of look.  Turn you body more sideways to the camera.. More like the models and actresses do for camera poses... You were working with the hand on the hip thing... these are the same Moves that Paris Hilton and others do.. and Paris is a powerful creature!!  Personally I would throw away the whole hand on the hip thing.. if you want to elude to being more submissive...

I'm not trying to be mean or beat up on you here... just provide some honest feedback, to what I see happening with your picture shot...

MrRodgers -> RE: What does a sub look/sound like? (3/6/2007 1:12:15 AM)

Yes, 'sub' and 'dom' or abbreviations created as part of the new lexicon of the 'kinkosphere.' (mine to) A sub is very long and round with people inside...sometimes several hundred feet of steel and such, weighs thousands of tons and normally spend their time underwater for up to 6 months. Aka submarine...

A 'dom'...I have no idea.

SubmissiveSissie -> RE: What does a sub look/sound like? (3/6/2007 1:30:46 AM)

Haha. "what does a sub sound like"

Priceless question. You might as well ask what sound a tree makes. I doubt there's a valid response for that.

As for what they look like, I guess you could look at their posture. Lol.

If you are flogging a sub in the forest and she falls, she makes no sound. (Now, I bet that visualization made all the submissives feel so hot.)

"dom" is the universally recognized non-word to the song "Hear Comes the Bride" often sung as "dom dom da-dom....."
