I have not given anything directly since I began taking care of an elderly relative a few years ago. It just sucked a lot of energy from me. In the past I have been involved with the peace movement here, I have volunteered for the Children's Hospital, and I have ran a couple of organizations through my college. I want to get active, but I have not been so lately.

I was down at my Daddy's place this last week and we were cruising around. I love the city he lives in because it is filled with craftsman homes, bungalows, and victorian homes. I asked him if there was a historical society to protect these treasures from being bulldozed for two bit condos. I think I may have found a new cause when I move to the area. I would feel very good about preserving the character of the city I plan on making my home.

i've taught meditation at a homeless shelter. i've also served food there. cleaned up roadsides, that sort of thing. ideally, i would like to get more involved with helping the homeless, but right now, i am just trying to stay above water myself most of the time (work and school leave me barely time for doctors appts, let alone volunteering). i used to donate to women for women international when i was a bit more financially solvent, but i prefer to donate time rather than money because i'm usually incredibly short on the latter.

i've also done some guerrilla art. i would like to, and am planning to, do more. :)

i do my best to stay away from political entanglements of any kind, including most protests, campaigns, etc.

I guess I will play nice now. I don't have time to give anything to the community. I coach Ums soccer 5 days a week and games on Saturday. I am looking for a good bargain on jersey's and other gear so I can offset the organizations fee's for families who, normaly, wouldn't be able to afford to let their kids play soccer.

we form goernment watch groups and sue the fuck out of these assholes when they violate our rights, vote for third party is a vote against status quo, tell people who have no interest in knowing the truth so when it all unfolds and goes public 30 years from now i can laugh and say i told you so :)

Hey Puella......


I’ll hands down admit that I do a lot of bitching / criticizing regarding the current administration almost daily. And I can’t stand either one of the political parties or their appointees that run our government and the infrastructure.  

With that said….I’m quite involved.

I vote in every election regardless of the implications.

I don’t give to anonymous charities like some of the others have mentioned {I’m too worried about the money being misappropriated} And I’m not that big on random acts of kindness{other than being a loyal friend} But I am one of the biggest donors in my town to high school athletic programs, mainly football, wrestling, girls volleyball, and baseball.

I never give the money to the administrators/ bureaucrats that run the school….it’s given to the coaches/teachers /parents that are in charge of the teams/programs. I’ve also given money to the Spanish club to help fund cultural trips {The Spanish teacher is a good friend of mine}

I also sponsor numerous little league / Babe Ruth teams. And occasionally I sponsor a team for men’s city league softball or city league basketball. Up till last year I still played.  

And when my baby sister comes up to visit with her three young kids, I teach /familiarize them how to swim /function in fast moving whitewater.

Last but not least....I’m co-chairman of a five-year-old a county wide non-partisan political action committee {16 members} whose main purpose is to act as a ''watch dog group'' for the tax payers regarding the spending habits imposed by non-elected bureaucrats .

I guess you could say we’re here to make sure non-elected officials don’t act in a fiscal manner consistent with delusions of grandeur.

 And on at least three separate occasions, I severed / been a part of our local budget committees in the town in which I live.

I consider my part in our PAC to be my biggest /kindest act of philanthropy [;)]

I try to talk to people who aren't at the top of the social/financial structure about learning, participating in the political process, and voting...  I like to shove a book explaining some of the insanity we're living in, at willing victims, whenever I can.  I donate money when I can, which unfortunately is not frequent these days.   
P.S.  Some of what I do is occasionally done on the radio.   M

Wow, I feel seriously slackish after reading this thread. Here's my modest list:

-- I work at an educational magazine, trying to boost kids' literacy skills and knowledge of the world.

-- I donate to a group that provides transitional housing for the homeless.

-- I serve as VP of the tenants association in my apartment building.

-- I co-chair the retreat ministry at a church, which helps others recharge their batteries for their own giving back.
