The last time I checked it's not against the law to "offend" someone.
We need to guard against "Political Correctness" just as much as we need to guard against Racism.
Oh, in Ireland "Nappy" means diaper.

I don't know if this is about the "law", I think it is about the fact that Imus works for NBC, and while performing that job said some shit that pissed some people off. I mean when I worked in sales, which is close to what talk show hosts are, basicly paid to talk to people, in order to make money. I would have been fired so fast if I called someone any offensive name on the job. That is really the point. Granted he is a talk show host. However, the job of the talk show host is to entertain, and keep people interested. He fucked up and crossed that line to were he was ridiculing directly.
This is only a problem in my view because he did it while under the employ of NBC(or any corporation or entity).
I'm not offended, or even care at all that he used the word. I really don't care at all what anyone says for the most part, I'll just tell them to go fuck themselves if I don't like it. But it is a whole other ball game when you are WORKING for someone and use those terms.

That is the issue in my view, that he did it WHILE working for someone else, that doesn't approve of that speech.

If I hire Popeye1250 to work my customer service desk, I really don't care if you hate everyone under the sun. I don't care if think white people are pieces shit, or think jews should burn in the ovens. I'm not saying that you believe that, just such things I don't care about. What I care about is that you have the mental capacity to represent NeedToUseYou Corp. in a manner in-line with accepted standards set by the company. If you then went and referred to some customers as Jigaboos. I would fire you. I wouldn't fire you because you felt that way, I don't care what the employee feels about in that regard. I'd fire you because that statement could really piss off the only people I care about in relation to the company,CUSTOMERS. So, your ass would hit the door.

Now, on your off time do what you want. I don't care. And that is exactly what NBC is doing. They don't care about Imus, they don't care what he said, they care about the only thing that matters to them as a company, and that is viewers(Customers). So, as a business, it is in their interest to punish him for pissing off their customers, or fire him if that is what it takes to retain customers.

It's business, it's not about freedom of speech, You don't really enjoy that privilege at work.

I think one of the Rutgers girls should have pointed out that if anyone knows knappy, it has to be Don Imus. You would think with all that cayshe ... he could get a good haircut ... or shave the back of his neck ... or how about trimming that squirrel tail he has coming out of each nostrile.

You know I have to post one of my Daddy's all time favorites!

Make it like that famous country singer
Or that guy I saw last night on Jerry Springer
Clean me up but let me keep my edge,
In the day I like to keep it dignified
But at night you know I got another side
And I don't give a damn, cause I am what I am
Even if it's really really bad
I've got an Ape Drape, yes I do
They're givin' em to anyone, and that means you
You can drive to Riverside and get one too
And then you'll have an Ape Drape like I do
Go ahead and buzz it 'round the ears
I've been growin' that one braid back there for years
I've had it since the first time I saw Queensryche
The front may conform to society
But the back says I have personality
Even if it's really really, even if it's really really bad
Make it short in front and long in back!
If the top's not short enough that it stands up
I could be thrown out of the Bad Boy Club
But don't you lay a finger on my pony tail
Now fix my kid so he looks just like me,
And then matching crazy pants are all we need
Some may call it child abuse I just call it bonding with you Dad.

greeting x ( your name is so long i hope you do not mind )

now for the freedom of speech sometimes people take this one thing way to far. anyone who is making a racist remark be it to a white person or to a black or chinese or mexican, it is wrong as hell. i was called a n word but a teacher in a elemarty school. this is how freedom of speech can show how people really feel. she a person who is making the next step in a child life let me know what she felt about childern of color. no she did not stop there is called the childer giggaboes and so many of things. this is when i feel damn sure the freedom of speech is full of shit . i felt all childern are equal and sweet and the same she did not see and or want to see this. it hurt me deeply when she called me this. oh no i never did anything to her for her to act in that manner. the freedom of speech is use to express a opinion and or a plan. but not to call other names that are so hurtful. that n word was use to make many feel less then what they are and this is wrong so wrong . so take the freedom of speech and step pff you soap box it is ok

mons take care and be well

Fast reply: not having read the entire thread.

I think Imus was wrong for saying what he did. I think it was insensitive. But he said it and he did the right thing after he said it and apologized. I am not an Imus fan, but I have heard him and I believe he is sincere.

It always amazes me that people can be complete jackasses or criminals and think that apologies can fix it.

He said something idiotic.

He got fired.

End of story.

Well, I tend to agree with you, Sinergy.. but it has worked for everyone else so far... either an apology accompanied by a donation or " rehab". That seems to be the accepted procedure.
