Maybe now you can finally understand that free speech ends where indignant mothers and sponsors begin....Poor baby. poor little Imus...Well maybe Imus will now have some extra time and will "cyber" with you...

Maybe I am getting him confused with Tom Cruise.

His show was put on permanent hiatus.

He may still have a job, but since he is paid by the episode...

He was fired from tv; not radio, that much I've figured out since I posted.   I'd not read anything since yesterday and didn't realize the zero tolerance stuff happened today.

just skimming over some of the replies in this thread, shaking my head and almost dumbstruck at the fact that there are people living in "modern" western society, in the year 2007, who don't see the "big deal" in a white man on a national media forum referring to a group of accomplished, bright, young african-american women (who had to struggle mightily to achieve their current success, btw) as "nappy headed hos." wow. just wow.

I apologize if I gave any impression other than a belief that that racist cretin should be tarred, feathered, run out of town on a rail, and thrown into the bayou.

you speak about it on a forum.  Isn't it the same situation when you do it on  a public forum?  If a person is breaking some TOS rules, why not specifically confront them in regards to them?   Be professional and not be on a witch hunt.  Everyone should be allowed to have a difference of an opinion. i think the majority if are told a specific rule would stop.  So why not go for tolerance or either an lengthy explanation.

Imus exercised his "free speech" and others who had as much "freedom" as he had responded. The sponsers are "free" also to respond to his "freedom of speech" when it costs them money by people boycotting products.   i would like him to exercise that same "free speech", not in the safety of his little office, but go into the streets and make those same comments, i doubt he'd have the courage cause he knows he'd get his ass kicked.

What he said was disgusting and reprehensible, i personally don't understand this kind of "humor" or "satire".  These young women did not deserve this, and now they are recieving hate mail!!!!

To those who defend his actions using free speech as a defense - how would you feel if while in school your child was exposed to their teacher's free speech and came home quoting racist remarks made by the teacher? What if the teacher said all kids  are unruly little brats who should get beaten daily?  Where has accountability gone for what comes out of our mouths? Where has common sense gone?  i don't like it when anyone is disparaged because of their race, culture, gender, etc..... it seperates and just spreads hatred.

And to the remark x made about everyone being entitled to a free education and implied this evens the playing field - you need to visit some inner city schools as compared to upper income suburban schools and then re-evaluate your position here.  Sit in on a few classes in one of the NYC burroughs where they make the auditorium a classroom because there is overcrowding and no where to put them, there are even accounts of classes being held in stairwells - appauling!!!!  Look at the condition of the buildings - they don't even have playgrounds many of them - equipment and simple up to date text books are lacking.  There are signs in bathrooms - Don't Drink the Water, other problems like asbestos poisoning, crumbling walls and out of date equipment.  These kids are NOT given a real chance to get the same education as those other more privledged kids in suburban schools.  You do need to step out of your bubble a little and open your eyes to whats happening outside of your little world.

nothing new there - heard a teacher in private saying that to another teacher at my oldest UM's school. so i wouldn't be shocked if she came home and repeated the racist remarks made by her 8th grade teachers (oh btw she's attends a predominantly white school in a white neighborhood). better yet, i can go one step further down - i too have been on the receiving end of racial comments made by my teachers (again i attended a predominantly white schools all my life) as well as the students. did it affect me ...was i emotionally damaged? perhaps but i have thicker skin than the other Black students who attended the same schools because i knew that certain people ignorant in their perception of others.

my point is - what you might see as a racial slur by the one and only founder of the shock jock radio i see as a double standard screamed as racism by our so-called Black leaders. so my question back to you - is it okay for us Blacks call another within our own race a "knappy-headed ho" and then condemn a White radio personality when he uses the same term?  better yet, if the tables were turned and a Black shock jock called a group of Hispanic basketball players "a bunch of Mexican frijole burrito eating wetbacks",  would there be the same media and protest outrage like Don Imus'?  would Sharpton and/or Jackson rush to the guy's assistance or leave him hanging for the slaughter?

Sharpton and Jackson got what they wanted - blowing this thing into an international media frenzy saying the Black community was offended. HA! they shouldn't speak after firing racial comments themselves. i don't see them being outraged over the video seen around the world and net - the beating of a White bartender by a White police officer only because it doesn't affect the Black community here. isn't that a much more worthy cause to get outraged over than a radio personality uttering a few words?
