Imus exercised his "free speech" and others who had as much "freedom" as he had responded. The sponsers are "free" also to respond to his "freedom of speech" when it costs them money by people boycotting products. i would like him to exercise that same "free speech", not in the safety of his little office, but go into the streets and make those same comments, i doubt he'd have the courage cause he knows he'd get his ass kicked. What he said was disgusting and reprehensible, i personally don't understand this kind of "humor" or "satire". These young women did not deserve this, and now they are recieving hate mail!!!! To those who defend his actions using free speech as a defense - how would you feel if while in school your child was exposed to their teacher's free speech and came home quoting racist remarks made by the teacher? What if the teacher said all kids are unruly little brats who should get beaten daily? Where has accountability gone for what comes out of our mouths? Where has common sense gone? i don't like it when anyone is disparaged because of their race, culture, gender, etc..... it seperates and just spreads hatred. And to the remark x made about everyone being entitled to a free education and implied this evens the playing field - you need to visit some inner city schools as compared to upper income suburban schools and then re-evaluate your position here. Sit in on a few classes in one of the NYC burroughs where they make the auditorium a classroom because there is overcrowding and no where to put them, there are even accounts of classes being held in stairwells - appauling!!!! Look at the condition of the buildings - they don't even have playgrounds many of them - equipment and simple up to date text books are lacking. There are signs in bathrooms - Don't Drink the Water, other problems like asbestos poisoning, crumbling walls and out of date equipment. These kids are NOT given a real chance to get the same education as those other more privledged kids in suburban schools. You do need to step out of your bubble a little and open your eyes to whats happening outside of your little world.
