Claim my title?  MasterLordSirDomly?  Jeeeeeeeez.

That is the ghesyest thing since ghey came to gheytown.  The idea of according yourself some dumbass honorific title because your winkie gets hard/coochie gets wet based on being on one or both sides of a whip is so fucking stupid I can't believe it.  That's like being a level 21 Dork in some stupid LARP.  You're an epic level dork.

I got one fucking title: Marine, specifically a commissioned officer, Major, of US Marines.  That's a title.

LadyShitWick, MistressFapsALot and MasterWickedLonely aren't titles.  They're cries for help: "Save me from living my entire live/dying as a dumbass!!!"

I am not big on titles in general.  My slaves call me Mistress
in private, by my Scene name or given name the rest of the
time.  I call them by their names in public and "slave" or
pet names in private.

Ohh Mercnbeth.. please no offense meant but this immediately popped into my head from the Holy Grail:

Dennis: Oh but you can't expect to wield supreme executive power just because some watery tart threw a sword at you!

Arthur: SHUT UP!

Dennis: Oh but if I went 'round sayin' I was Emperor, just because some moistened bink lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

Arthur: SHUT UP! WILL YOU SHUT UP! [Grabs Dennis]

Dennis: Ah! Now we see the violence inherent in the system!

Arthur: SHUT UP!

Dennis: Oh, come and see the violence inherent in the system! Help! Help! I'm being repressed!

God I love that movie!

I used to call myself astray, but lots mistook that for ashtray and I didn't want someone putting a ciggarette out on my forehead as a way of saying hi.  So, for this stuff, I don't use that name anymore.

I decided on gypsy because, like astray, its descriptive of my tendency to wander around and, growing up in my family, its a good humored way of calling someone a slut.  My aunt called me gypsy once when I was visiting my parents for a few days and had to get out of the house for a couple hours in the interests of preserving my sanity.  She "caught" me coming out of a grocery store and was like, "ohh, look at the gypsy," and I decided I liked it.

For those who do not know of me

An Acolyte brought it to my attention that there may be those among you who are unaware of who and what I am.  I am a Dominant of the 12th Order, a house so ancient, its origins are shrouded in the history of time, although our accomplishments are not, as we are the most respected house in all of Europe.  I myself began my training while in the womb and have continued that education unending until the present day although there are few Elders left with enough knowledge to add to my own.

In the coming year I myself shall join those hallowed ranks of Elders and thus the cycle continues.  I realize to many of you, men such as myself are the stuff of myths and legends, but I am real flesh and blood.

For those who have never had the honor of being graced with my presence and yet wish to offer the proper greetings, I thought I would outline the required etiquette.  While this various from house to house, it is the 12th Order that other houses seek to emulate so this etiquette will serve you well.

When conducting introductions, one always presents the inferior party to the superior party.  Just as one would never introduce the Queen to anyone else, one would never introduce a superior Dominant to an inferior, it is the inferior Dominant who is introduced to the superior ranking Dominant.  When Dominants of equal rank are introduced, the one from the inferior house that is introduced to the equal Dominant from the superior house.

When a Dominant or a Domme is presented to someone from a superior house, such as mine, it is proper to cross your arms across your chest and to glance downward until recognized.  This signifies that I am free to do as I wish but that you defer actions to me.  The downward glance signifies that you acknowledge your house is inferior to mine.

When a submissive is introduced, the correct greeting varies according to the sex of the submissive.  Females should arch their backs so as to present their breasts proudly but both lower their gaze and clasp their hands behind their backs.  Males should simply turn their wrists so that the inside of the palms of the hands face inwards and press the wrists together as if bound.

I look forward to meeting some of you and while I will not admonish you publicly for failing to adhere to the above, expect me to take you aside and correct you.

When I started out, I was a sub, and I was collared; however, I started doing some scenes where I was the Domme.  My Mentor soon help me locate a locate slave.  My former mentor gave me that name.
My Mentor and I were close friends until a few months ago.   When we split, I changed  my named to MissSCD.  It stands for Mistress, South Carolina Domina.
A few of the chat rooms here started calling me MissSCD, and I liked it.  There it is.

Do people honestly get sucked in by names? Half these Masters, Mistresses, Lords, Ladies and Gentlemen have never even met a real life sub never mind successfully dominated one in cyber. If a real lifer wants to be named by his/her sub in a particular way then that’s fine but to expect everyone to call them ‘His Lord Highness big bollocks’ has to be on some disillusioned ego boosting sugar rush

To me, using another's chosen title, no matter if it's Grand Pooh-Bah of the Universe, is a sign of respect for a person. It is nothing on me to use the title; it is everything on them to live up to it. Master Fire

[/quote]

For me, this is the best line in the entire thread. I'm a Southern girl, and calling someone Sir or Ma'am was simply the way I was raised.  It doesn't diminish me to call someone whatever they want to be called.

As for my designation: Exsteel decided I was slave, or perhaps my own behaviors led him to call me that. Whatever the case, I let him call me whatever he chooses...and in the heat of the moment, some of those names make me blush quite a bit.

Ya know, this just sort of sat with me for awhile.  Sometimes someone says something that stirs something in the hinter parts of your brain until it finally bubbles to the surface... presumably in a thought balloon.  This is one of those times.

It occurs to me that in all this debate about titles, who deserves what, when its appropriate, whether titles are appropriate at all, derogatory remarks about anyone using titles, forms of address, who calls what whom, etc., in all this I don't recall anyone asking the simple question "Why?"

Ever ask yourself why someone uses a title?  Did you ever consider that maybe different people use them for different reasons?

Surely some use them for the reason MariaB alludes to.  Some seek to dress themselves up in finery.  Some seek to derive some degree of authority from the title itself.  Some seek to appear more impressive as "Grand Master B" instead of just plain Bob.  And everyone rushes to condemn such, point out what silliness it is, etc. and in the process condemn the use of titles all togeher.

Did you ever stop to consider that you might be throwing the baby out with the bath water?

What about someone that doesn't use it for recognition?  What about someone that uses that title... that word "master" as a name, a label, for a goal they work towards?  What about someone who uses that because they feel it bests suits who they already are, because it identifies the person inside?  What about those who may use the title, but don't expect any special recognition because of it, its just a label, an indicator of who they are and what they are about?

Just food for thought.

I sort of fell into being a submissive after accidentally stumbling across a Dom. My role filled the piece that was missing in my life so I associated myself as a submissive. Then I met my Master who told me that I was a slave. I found it difficult to believe, don't know that I could be a slave for anyone else, but it is extremely rewarding and fulfilling for him to call me his slave. I love it and everything associated with it, especially finding out that things that were hard limits in the past are not limits at all now.

greetings ladypact,

i don't see slave as a title, rather as a label. it's not some special status only bestowed upon the worthy, or something like that. many people would like to think that about the labels with which we refer to ourselves, and in some circles, that's how it's handled...but i doubt anyone will ever be able to streamline things so only twue slaves can be called slaves, etc.

everyone has their own opinion about what a slave is, what a master is, etc. that's just how things are. getting upset about Other People's Opinions or mad because somebody who's only online uses the term master or whatever just causes the angry person to be angry and stressed for something entirely beyond their control.

this thread reminds me of differing views in the pagan community (at least the local community, and things i've seen from elsewhere) about what makes a priestess. i call myself a priestess because it describes me, as i define priestess and as i've seen some others do so. some people think that i cannot be a priestess at the age of 19 regardless of the number of years i've spent seriously studying and practicing paganism. for other people it has nothing to do with age. "high priestess" would be a title conferred onto a priestess who is a leader of a group within a wiccan tradition, for example, by someone who is higher up within that tradition, but "priestess" is just a label, to me. it's a way of communicating that part of my personality to other people within the confines of language.

overall, though, i think the biggest problem here is that people confuse titles with labels. master, slave, etc. are things we call ourselves. titles are things that are conferred onto us, that have some sort of impact in our lives, like, as someone else mentioned, professor, etc. unless bdsm ends up being more institutionalized and organized and there is actually a streamlined process by which someone can earn the title of master and that becomes the generally accepted practice, i don't think i'll personally ever consider those things to be titles in the same way that, say, "associate professor" or "dean" is a title.

Well perhaps I’ve just been around too long then.
I was on the UK northern scene over 17 years ago when everything was very much ‘structured underground’. A Master was exactly that, a proven expert in some form of BDSM.
You did, of course have Master of his sub but he was only called Master by his sub. In those days Sirs were only called Sir by their subs and Mistresses were only called Mistress by their subs unless it was used in a description by someone.
I came back out onto the London scene about 4 years ago and was surprised at all the titles floating around.
People can call themselves what they want but I refuse to call a man a Master unless he has sincerely earned that title.
Yes we can call ourselves what we want but if your going to call yourself a Master around the real scene then expect you are going to have to live up to the reputation of being a Master. Sometimes believing your own hype is just not enough!

greetings mariab,

seeing as i wasn't part of the london underground bdsm scene at that time, nor was i part of the leather community in america, i am speaking based on my experience in bdsm as it is now, because that's all the experience i have. i don't claim to speak for everyone, nor do i claim to speak to bdsm as it's existed in all time periods or all communities. i just claim to speak to what i see happening in bdsm since i've become involved in it.

When I started out, I was very nieve and chest thumping, I called myself Mistress from the start although I had a problem with that title since it was traditionally used to describe the "other" woman.  As I gleaned knowledge and experience, I dropped the Mistress part personally and started telling those that addressed me as such to call me Ma'am if they needed to greet me with a title.  Now I am Loren or Ms Loren as some of my closer friends refer to me.  For others I am Ms L, Ms L7 Ms BBBTBW or  some other variation of names I have used.  I answer to all of them  There are still some that are not comfortable greeting me as anything but Mistress or Ma'am...so I allow it....I have come to realize regardless of the title, I am who I am.

What she said...I couldn't have said it better.

I'm pretty much just Ms Jo. I've never been one to ask someone address me as Mistress. Even my 'nilla friends call me Ms Jo. Not something I insisted on, not something I labeled myself. Just something they fell into after a cuck addressed me as such in front of them. Frankly, I can't even remember where Ms Jo originated. It's just always been how I've been addressed.

As for the name SDFemDom4cuck...it simply seemed to be the best way to weed out the people that weren't interested in cuckolding. It attracts those that are and turns away the ones that aren't.

SM,

Me thinks your lordship expects all of the thralls to bow down and

But if one may be so bold to ask, are the peasants bowing
to the horse or to his rider?
