ORIGINAL: aSlavesLife I do feel that it is rude to not reply. We get tons of mail, and we reply to every one of them, even the ones that just say " hi ". We even respond to the obvious form letters with a brief letter of our own advising them that they might have better luck if they actually read the profiles and tailor letters accordingly. I sometimes send people in the vanilla world email and never get a response back. My boss, a couple of coworkers, and I were talking about it the other day. My boss made the point that she tends to get email and forget she has to respond to it. I responded that my feelings about email or things I am asked to do is that I cannot stand (what Wired magazine referred to as "open loops") to have things in my life I have to freaking remember to do. Irritates the bejeezus out of me. So when I get a message or task or whatever, I take a moment to a) reply, or b) delete, or c) take care of it, or d) decide why I cannot take care of it right then and take a moment to figure out what I need to do to get it done and gone from my life. Indicated to her that she might want to consider trying that approach; somebody sends her an email asking a question, for example, she could theoretically just answer the question and be done with it. Not sure she is likely to, but my inner life got a lot more peaceful when I took up that approach. Sinergy
