ORIGINAL: hisannabelle greetings egosum, and it sickens me that we make the immigration process so goddamned difficult that people feel compelled to enter the country illegally. but we all got problems. annabelle. They are not coming here illegally to become Americans. That's the problem. They are coming here illegally to take jobs at low wages (much lower than Americans are willing to work), work 80 hours a week, and then send that money back to Mexico. Most of the ones that cross the border illegally hate this country. Look at how they refuse to learn english. When my great-grandparents immigrated here from Italy, they banned the Italian language in their home. They did not allow their children to speak anything else but english. Why? Because English is the language spoken in America. And America was their new home. They are the reason poverty is increasing in America. There was a poll in Mexico that showed that 70% of Mexicans believe that the southwest United States belongs to Mexico and would support a movement to retake that land. There are drug cartels on the Mexican border that have more weapons and arms than Al-Queda. There has been over 300 incursions by the Mexican military into the United States. If the Mexican military comes across the border and starts shooting at our border patrol (which has happened several times), that is an act of war and we have every right to defend ourselves. I say pull our troops out of Iraq and put it on the border. And shoot every damn thing that moves. Once Mexico crushes the drug cartels, stops the human trafficking, and stops the corruption in its ranks.....then we can talk about immigration laws. I happen to agree with this thread. Legal and illegal are not the same thing folks, sorry. I am in the process of learning Spanish because it will be to my benefit career wise and in general. If you don't know Spanish soon you will be SOL. Working with the children of many illegal immigrants is a gold mine. In order for me to work wherever I want, knowing Spanish will be more marketable in my field {Special Education}, right now, than a Masters Degree or a Doctorate! I have my sights on working in certain areas in Northern Virginia, and I have been TOLD by an Adminstrator in that county that at least 50% of the children in many of the early intervention {2 to 5 year olds}Special Education programs are Hispanic. Many of these children have parents that speak little to no English and I am telling you, that OUR tax dollars are creating many jobs, to educate this new wave of immigrants. [:D] So damn it, I am going to take advantage of it, and if you are smart you will too. She also told me of many special programs for teen mothers, etc. and she said most were Hispanics. I laugh at many of my co-workers working on their Masters, they will be stuck--when I become fluent in Spanish I will have it made in the shade. LOL, when I learn Spanish I will be able to teach, ANYWHERE. So I have no problem doing what I need to do to be able to go anywhere in my country and work, but some might think it is odd that they need to learn another language to function easier in their own country! I often wonder what language will be more important in 50 years..English or Spanish, and I am serious. Adios mis amigos
