I live in Tennessee about an hours drive from Knoxville, I can't get their often I am from Knoxville originally but transportation and gas prices are keeping my chances of getting there slim, where I live it is horrible their is no open mindedness at all, if you are gay lesbian or in any way different from what a 'normal' marriage is supposed to be and people know it then you are a virtual outcast. Very vanilla here so I don't know anyone in real time that is kinky like us. I would tend to think that California would be more liberal than most states but I could be wrong.

If only LDS meant anything close to BDSM.  Yikes!  I've heard that there was some drama a few years back that negatively affected the kink community so it's harder to find the kinksters out here.  At least I have CM for support!

If there is one in Alaska, I have yet to find it. I think Alaska has to be in the bottom five.

I agree that GA is fantastic, if you live in the Atlanta area.  Personally, I think it's worth the two hour drive, but also requires an overnight stay.  That is why I usually only go for major events.

After some searching, I have found that there is a community here in Augusta.  Wonderful people, but haven't been to anything big in this area yet.

CO was great, but I haven't lived there in a couple of years.

Iowa isn't too bad. You just have to know where to look. Most of them you have to be 21 to enter, and I've only been 21 for a few months.

I'd say it's in the bottom 10 though.

NY is a bit of an oddity, too...

We have a lot going on here...and I mean a LOT. We've got every kinda group/club for just about every need and we have some great people here doing really great work in the community. But we also only have one public dungeon and it's privately owned. We had two play spaces in Brooklyn until fairly recently, but they went belly-up...And before I could even get to either of them. We also have a Republican mayor who seems more than happy to continue the work of his predecessor...although I personally suspect he's got a thing for nipple clamps! But, that makes for a not-so-accepting political climate around here. Most people in NYC generally accept most of the things they see on a daily basis...and in general people don't care about body piercings and blue hair and tattoos all over...they're not so comfy with the idea of their next door neighbor's husband going around in diapers...but then again, they're not likely to call a cop or the men in the white coats either b/c they really don't give that much of a damn.

So, all-in-all, NY is a cool place to be in terms of finding your kinky niche...but it's got it's faults as well.

I hear that there is a lot of good stuff going on in Florida!

MNN

Forgot to mention the cost of things here. One of the reasons our dungeons and clubs are disappearing is b/c rents are so astronomically high here...I mean, like you would not believe...and new start ups really have the odds stacked against them. So we are trying so hard to just hold onto what we've got.

I really think its a matter of where in the state your in and how big the population is.  In the smaller towns, more rural I would think its much harder....

I would imagine NY, NY would be one of the best, considering they have (from what I have heard, never been there) alot of peeps and many kinky full time bars similiar to the bigger cities in LA.

If you have any adult book stores in your area, I'd imagine you will find people interested in BDSM.  if you have no adult book stores, you'd imagine its more likely its so rural that its not going to happen.

I really like the idea of 60's love and pologomy, but with STD's and AIDS, its not really worth the risk imho.  I'm sure there are people out there that say screw the risk, and want what they want.......

I'm near Detroit, MI myself, and I'd say we are middle of the road to upper top 10 in regards to how good we are for BDSM and people into freaky stuff like Pologomy........

I am in Las Vegas, and you'd think Sin City would be open to this lifestyle, however, the laws here in Clark County (where Las Vegas is located) are pretty strict.  Prostitution is illegal in all counties with populations over 250,000, which is a huge surprise to visitors who think that this town is one big orgy of debauchery.  There's a small community here (my Master comes from the Denver and California Bay area communities, and he says it's small here) and also considering that I know pretty much everyone here, yeah, it's small.

Basically, the problem in Vegas is money.  BDSM doesn't make boatloads of money for anyone, so it will never be legalized in any way.  Players risk mandatory arrest for domestic violence if they are caught.  There is one private dungeon, but it is open to "members" only when the owner decides to have a party, but can be rented.  It is in a quiet, residential neighborhood and obviously operates without any licensing, so if someone complained about the party, lots of people would get in trouble (it's also in an area that has a history of raids on "massage parlors").

Oklahoma here, or as my friend calls it Oklahomophobic. Strangely the reaction from vanilla people is sheer horror but we still have a few clubs in the 'big' cities. Plus a few from CollarMe are trying to get one started here in Stillwater. I suspect it will be like the pagan  get togethers and sorta fizzle most of the time.

There have been multiple cases of churches trying to get any sort of BDSM club or convention shut down for legal reasons. Much like penthouse gets banned here from time to time. Atleast the Tulsa Fetish Ball still happens :)

i heard the fetish warehouse is repoening up in manhattan - heard that a while ago though, so who knows.  All but Paddles is closed down.  i am sure there are private dungeons no topen to the public but you have to know people involved with them to get invited. There is TES and they sponser workshops and weekend events with workshops and play spaces set up etc.  Domsubfriends is a large group and they also host events - sometimes held at paddles - they also host munches.  They also have SCONY (spanking club of NY) - they host spanking weekends in the poconos at a resort - april and oct (2x a year) they frown upon bdsm stuff - no whips chains collars master/slave talk etc, all they do is spanking stuff.  Something for everyone :-)  Hudson Valley and the Albany area also have groups but beyond that i have no idea if out in the boonies there are any kinds of activities.

Greetings,

Believe it or not Ohio is pretty open.   There are several large groups in Northern Ohio.   Who would have thought it ~~

i was talking to someone who thought their state was the worst for finding someone or  too prudish for an open Poly relationship.  Got me woundering how you wouldrank your area and how where do you think  you could be as open as possiable in this lifestyle?

Utah is a strange place.

Mormons everywhere... republicans... and conservatives...

Then there's the hugely successful BDSM community.

As long as everyone is over 18 and no drugs are permitted at our events the cops in SLC leave us pretty much alone.

We are a learning and teaching based community... we have public classed and a public demo night, once a month, at a local dance club. Sure, the lacal club laws say no flagellation (hitting) or simmuoaltions of flagellation, but they don't say anything about needles/blood play, fire, suspension bondage, electro play, or wax ;)

I have been out of state once to Thunder in the Mountains... people refused to play with us (the people from Utah) because we are to ruff for them.

We pride our selves on our BDSM education. The only thing even close to it, on this side of the country, is in San Fransico, and it was found by someone who went through our system ;)

... Ok, I'm being nice when I say "this side of the country"... I've heard national presentors say that there's nothing like what we have anywhere else in the world.

I always find it funny that people say that. In the 13 years that I've been here, I've been through ONE earthquake and it was minor. Last time I checked winter, hurricanes and tornadoes happen every year.
