Celeste, does that jibe in any way of the "aura of violence" thing? Sounds like it could.

I realize this was addressed to Celeste, but I wanted to comment that for me it's how I define "primal" while "violence" is something damaging and evil.

Okay, you kinda lost me with the "Harley" part.

Look.

The most annoying thing I find about many "doms" is that they throttle back thier own ability to feel the primal aspects so much-that they come across as dry pedagogs.  I prefer to let go of enough of the "I have a rod up my ass" self control to be able to feel.

Maybe that sort of thing makes fearful women feel "safe"-and if it does, that's fine for them.. I understand pedestals too-it's about a bottom controlling the top'
s thoughts. In general, I can decide where a reasonable line lies. I keep to one side of it out of a sense of self preservation. But a big part of the appeal is to see how close to it you can come-without breaking anything beyond repair. And men who fear taking chances-and always play it safe.....will never understand that appeal.

Now I am lost

Marks the date on the calendar.

I usually post with communication in mind... but if that is not your goal... cool beans for me!

Primal is tapping a bit of the blood for feeding. The tapped walks away.

Violence is eating the head.

Primal is tearing into the body and devouring, leaving enough behind to recover.

Violence is ripping the heart out and eating it.

Yes. But if you are so "controlled" that you are afraid to even lightly break skin- could that be more akin to fear than being reasonable?

For me it's a very primal place to be and those are, hands down, my favorite places to explore. When Himself gets 'that' look in his eye, when he starts to bite, claw, pull and growl at me .. when our sex turns violent and a bit scary and I know we're going to end up bloody, marked and gasping for air, yeah, baby. That's all good. That works for me.

That said, that's not what I think of when I think 'aura of violence'. The primal, visceral "sometime" thing is more like an urge that you let overtake you on occasion.. when the energy is ripe and right for it, where as an aura of violence, to me at least, would be something which is just below the surface all the time and where it could erupt without warning at any given moment. I don't know if I could thrive in an environment like that .. I'd worry that I'd have to walk on eggshells most of the time and such would prevent me from being who I am.

Balance is key for me.. I need peace to balance the chaos, kindness to balance the cruelity, hope to balance the despair. I don't know if an aura of violence, which I think of as perpetual, would allow for the necessary balance that I need to thrive but on occasion, YES.

If you are referring to the Master being so controlled that he fears breaking the skin, then yes...unless, he is controlled enough to know the slave is not mentally/emotionally ready to have her skin broken yet.  In which case something far less drastic could bring about the same effect, in which case he is being reasonable.

"Could" is the key word there.

Agreed. I was using a metaphor however..Tactile bondaries can be penetrated in any number of ways. At the same time, I doubt I would get involved with anyone so physically or emotionally fragile that I would have to treat her like a soap bubble.

How many posts do we suffer here, reading about women who's men are basically chicken? And thier disgust over it?

It's not even about being a sadist-it's about them being whimps.

Is it being a wimp not to engage in behavior that you do not want to engage in?

If it does not turn him on to do it, wouldn't it be topping from the bottom for a submissive to push a dominant into going past their comfort zone?

I do not think it is a sign of being wimpy that a dom does not want to be more extreme, I think it is just a preference. Why should a dom do more than they feel like?

Of course there are wimps out there. But, as julia said, there is also the matter of preferences. One does not have to be a sadist to be a dominant.

Understandable. Yet sometime there is an animalistic, primal beast lurking deep within that soap bubble, and the "bubble" is just a mask.  I suspect, however, in those instances, the beast is not as hidden as she thinks.  :)

The women they were with thought they were pathetic and spineless. Why should they do more than they want to?  To keep a relationship going with someone that thought they had more to offer? No one likes a bait and switcher julie.

And oft times they are just role playing a Dom to get laid-and the woman figures it out..

No one likes topping from the bottom either... and if I had that atttitude in my eyes it would make me a bottom, but when I am in submissive mode it is more important to me than being a masochist. I am always a masochist, I am pretty selective about whom I submit to.

I gotta say when I see people come here and bitch about not getting beaten enough, I think, get a new partner or live with it. I do not think their partner is automatically a wimp... there are times when I am not in the mood to get hit, there are times he is not in the mood to hit me...He is not a life support system for a flogger and I can find someone to top me at a local munch if I wanted it that badly.... it doesn't take a dom to beat me, it just takes someone that has a little knowledge and desire.
