Well, no matter what the fundamental basis; it's true in the fact that most everybody fits into one or the other personality types... the same as dominant or submissive, type A or type B

Hi darch, surely its possible to be alpha in some circumstances and beta in others ? As for me, im just a lowly omega type. [8D]

I am neither feather nor stone, I am but flesh and blood.

Moments of strength, whispers of weakness.

One shall prefer me.

Or not.

I don't mean to be hard-core about the alpha/beta diametric -- like most labels, it was an attempt at a convenient shorthand.  (And yes, I did lift the "beta male" term from Christopher Moore....)

As for the "Cash being the point of entry" thing:  I will say I agree to one extent.  No, I don't think women are only interested in guys with money.  However, they are very much apt to not be interested in guys who lack money...

bottomboy81 -> RE: Do any ladies prefer beta males? (7/25/2008 7:53:57 PM)

I think most male subs/men are not good enough for today's women. "Beta" hardly exist, its just many women want men to be some thing that hardly exist, just like how many men want women who hardly exist (a woman who will easily give out sex or sexual gratification to a man in her own league or a woman who will give it without making a man jump a 10000 hoops.

Is a beta male like an unproven version currently in testing and not ready for general release?

I would vote for that as post of the thread. Made me laugh...

joyinslavery -> RE: Do any ladies prefer beta males? (7/26/2008 1:32:27 AM)

No.

Or yes depending on the person and the situation.

Have fun.

Edited because it's late (or early as the case may be).

In parts of the animal kingdom, there is scientific basis for alpha and beta classifications. However, when it comes to homo sapiens, I'm not so sure that such a system is broadly applicable. And me? I consider myself considerably more complex than a binary classification system is capable of adequately describing.

Thanks for your posts,

Elan.

No prob.
It's a tough job being perpetually contrary, but someone's gotta do it. [:D]

I think I like you.

Aw, shucks. [:o]

dreamerdreaming -> RE: Do any ladies prefer beta males? (7/26/2008 2:08:21 AM)

I am the Alpha, in my relationship with my slave and with others. I have zero interest in an Alpha male as a slave.

But OP, a non- Alpha (what you designate as "beta") type slave can have plenty of confidence and ambition, be goal-oriented and have high self'esteem. Just so it doesn't interfere with his obedience and compliance to me. Confidence and ambition, goal setting and achievement, and a healthy self-image are all very attractive qualities to me and I do look for them in a slave.

You can buy a geeky t-shirt online "I beta-tested your mom." I think it's more funny than insulting.

As for alpha and beta. I'd say alpha is a leader and beta is not a leader (not necessarily a follower). As such I'm not an alpha female. I'd probably be switch or dominant if I was alpha in that sense.

Having written a few different responses to this, and deleted them all, I'll just say - I really like beta and omega males.  Alpha males are okay, but from a relationship perspective I don't tend to enjoy that dynamic as much, as anything other than friends.  No matter what the personality though, I prefer strong males, and won't get involved in a relationship with a weak one.

MadameMarque -> RE: Do any ladies prefer beta males? (7/26/2008 8:26:47 AM)

At one point in my life, I realized that everyone who had been submissive to me, had been dominant in previous relationships.

Later, I met a submissive whose nature is truly to be submissive and to serve.  His greatest excitement and satisfaction is in satisfying, pleasing, exciting, caring for the one to whom he devotes himself.   He was wonderful as a submissive in a different way than the more dominant personalities.

I noticed, though, the similarities that appeal to me, present in both the dominant and submissive personalities.  They are all people with strong feelings, passion and desire.  They were all sharp, observant, aware.  They each came to me, relating to me as an individual.

As submissives, they took to their role aggressively.  You can be someone who waits to be nudged or goaded into doing something that is needed or desired, hoping your dominant will perform for you, will "give you a scene" over each act; or
you can be someone who is an "alpha submissive."  Though the terms are contradictory, what I call an "alpha" submissive, is one who is motivated, who takes his responsibility to serve and please and excels with it.  He observes the subtle and the obvious, getting to know the person he submits to, learning how best to serve at each task.  He is naturally constantly looking for opportunities to have a positive effect.

I have never understood the whole Alpha/Beta thing, and refuse to participate in the game. I don't know which I am and frankly don't care. It all sounds like just another way to marginalize people and make them insecure.

The fact is not everybody is awesome at everything, and you will at some point in your life have to differ to somebody who's better than you at a certain task or area of expertise. Beyond even that, unless you hold a position of extraordinary power (President, Emperor, God-King, et al.,) somebody will exercise authority/imperium over you.

Hierarchy works in personal relationships and professional settings; not so much in social/cultural environments.

kubens -> RE: Do any ladies prefer beta males? (7/26/2008 1:39:24 PM)

It seems to me that if a person is truly apha, he/she would not enjoy submitting.  Furthermore, a beta is not necessarily weak.

RumpusParable -> RE: Do any ladies prefer beta males? (7/26/2008 1:45:45 PM)

Personally I prefer "beta males" as subs/slaves.  Someone who is adult, mature, knows themself, and is a follower by nature to follow my lead.

I don't get the whole Alpha and Beta thing: by my understanding, Alphas are assholes and Betas are wusses. Neither sounds like my type.

I like a man who is successful and ambitious, but not a workaholic.
I like a man who likes women.
I like a man that I don't have to baby.
I like a man who speaks up for himself when the need arises.

I like a submissive who understands the difference between groveling and service.
I like a submissive who is also a hardcore masochist.

Whatever you call guys that are all that, that's what I like. (Mostly I call him "my boyfriend.")

Why would beta = wuss?

Beta is the second in position not the omega, omega would be the end, the wuss.

firefey -> RE: Do any ladies prefer beta males? (7/26/2008 9:08:41 PM)

see, and my boy pet is an omega.  he is the bottom of the pack, playful, accomidating and and he knows it.  he has no aspirations at leadership, and is therefore not competition for the lead.  i have to agree with tamyjo, beta males should be the second in command type.  and are in a wolf pack, where i think the whole alpha/beta/etc thing tends to come from.  i enjoy beta males, but i'm not sure i would want one as a submissive.  i have an alpha male in my life and because of the alpha/beta dynamic i'm fairly sure they would not get on well.  but a boyish, playful, goofy pup licking (figurativly) my face and baring his throat.... yes please.
