They are FAB !!!

In fact, if someone chose to cover themselves in mushy peas, I would take great delight in licking them off.

RCdc -> RE: Terminology across the pond (10/26/2008 2:19:18 PM)

They are traditional.... and Fab!  And I shall make you some with mint sauce when you are here next[:D]...  They are simply swollen, green peas soaked so they are mushy!

GreedyTop -> RE: Terminology across the pond (10/26/2008 2:19:36 PM)

why make them mushy though?

Aneirin -> RE: Terminology across the pond (10/26/2008 2:21:53 PM)

Well, if they were'nt mushy, they would roll around the plate.

GreedyTop -> RE: Terminology across the pond (10/26/2008 2:23:21 PM)

half the fun of peas is chasing them with a fork!! LOL

dark.. I'll look forward to it!  (I cant wait to get there!!)

RCdc -> RE: Terminology across the pond (10/26/2008 2:23:27 PM)

Well, you can traditionally get a carton/polystyrene cup when you get a bag of chips and because they are mushy, you can dip.  Its like a thick and sticky gloop/sauce and the chips rock when dipped in.  Without being mushy, the peas would roll away!  But you can eat them as a side dish too or on their own with a spoon at Goose Fair!

... and they have to be mushy otherwise they slide off the pie when you go to the dogs

*returns to find her flat cap and whippet*

Well that settles it, there is something Americans are better at, using a fork to chase the peas around. We don't do mushy peas.

For the fork impaired, try a spoon (shovel).

Naaaa, you got it wrong, chasing peas is crap when you are hungry, best thing to do with mobile peas, is to mash them with the back of the fork and then shovel them. And no, they are not the same as mushy peas, mushy peas is something completely different.

Where I come from, mushy peas is a luxury, we mostly had to do with pea wet.

GreedyTop -> RE: Terminology across the pond (10/26/2008 2:37:35 PM)

pea wet? is that just the juice from mushy peas?

RCdc -> RE: Terminology across the pond (10/26/2008 2:38:41 PM)

I'm not a fan of mushy peas. This cafe down the road does them and they are completely the wrong tone of green.

Aneirin -> RE: Terminology across the pond (10/26/2008 2:41:35 PM)

Like I said, mushy peas were a luxury, normal cheap processed peas were the norm. For the paupers, we had the juice of the peas, the green water sprinkled over our chips. Mind serves us right for spending all our funds on ale and pickled eggs.

And before you say, after all them pickled eggs must fill you up, well, you know the score, booze makes one hungry.

GreedyTop -> RE: Terminology across the pond (10/26/2008 2:48:35 PM)

lol Aneirin.,... booze has just the opposite effect on me....(and the pickled eggs would probably kill what small shred of appetite I might have after the booze...LOL)

I always eat more when I have been drinking, but oddly enough, it is only ale that makes me eat, which to me, is a good thing.

it's the beer monkeys .... they buy the kebabs for you .. then wipe the garlic/chilli sauce all over the bed when you have fallen asleep
