Regarding 'knickers'. Twenty odd years ago a golfer called Bobby Clampett led the British Open after the first day. He had gone round in what we call plus fours, a trouser that stops just below the knee, with long socks. He was interviewed live, being the leader of the tournament Well played Bobby and what's the story with the traditional dress? He was asked Do you like my knickers? he replied They are a bit tight across the fanny Cue prolonged silence from the BBC interviewer. Thankfully Clampett didn't do so well in the rest of the tournament.
