ORIGINAL: Owner59 All true, but should we give up 200 plus years of moral advancement, civil conduct and desire to be better than our enemies ,all over what amounts to a relatively small hand full of nutters? We should not give up the advancement in some areas. Other areas have not been advancements, but government abuse (I include in this the squashing of state's rights by Lincoln) in the name of a good cause. quote:
If yes,how much freedom should we give up.And how far down to their level must we sink? Our liberties already guaranteed in the Constitution should not be sacrificed in any fashion. This would also include government meddling in our economy (bailouts) or regulation of Free Press (FCC and other regulations that do something other than control who has what frequency). quote:
And how many more will we drive into the ranks of the nutters, w/ 3-D virtual advertisements like Iraq,Abu-greb prison, gitmo, secrete prison sites in foreign countries were torture is common place, etc? Quite a few, and Osama not only predicted this, but hoped that attacks would push the US to do some extreme things. It has made some moderate Muslims to be very angry, and not be as willing to work with the West. quote:
Gitmo and every other breach of faith and constitutional violation committed by bush was justified by saying we were at war and he had the War Powers Acts covering him. Sarcasm noted. Let us not forget who gave him that power, and hold them accountable for not pushing further for proof. quote:
Funny thing though. We have not declared war and we are legally not at war.bush just claimed that to get away with murder. And the feckless 6 year republican majority let him get away with murder. We`ve not seen words and meanings twisted out of shape like this since Nixon. I do not disagree with what you have stated, but could you please point out what the Dem majority has done to correct this? quote:
Bye bye gitmo and good bye to all that bush-shit. Say hello to the new boss, the same as the old boss. What I mean by this is illustrated in another post. Things will happen that should not, because politicians are no longer servants of the people. No matter what Obama's intentions are, he still has to get Congress to do things. It has never been things that are perpetuated by one person, it has always been how the entire government functions, and in my opinion dysfunctional.
