The definition of terrorism is much debated, but attacking civilian targets is generally accepted as definitely it. You barely make any points or respond to what anyone says these days, but it appears you are disputing the description of terrorism for NI troubles. If so, you're really losing it. If not, well, we've seen other things you've been posting lately, we know you're really losing it.

Nobody, he made it up.

Why is it that so many people are totally clueless as to how Saddam Hussein, who was a Sunni Muslim, brutally repressed the Shia Muslims.

I think the question was directed at the 'worst who ever lived' part. You don't though.

If you actually took the time to seriously look into Saddam Husseins reign of terror you would be a more informed individual, and in a much better position to comment on such things.

Let's not get into 'informed individuals' shall we. :)

Oppression is happening the world over, it has always happened, it is a human frailty, anything that is different becomes a threat and a threat has to be controlled or wiped out, so Sunni versus Shia is nothing new there. Say the roles were reversed and Hussein was Shia do you not think the same would have existed, for it is clear it is not so much people of difference in whatever that may be, but the rabble rousers that exist in every club. For with every group in society there always seems to be the same pattern of people, the leaders, the followers, the abstainers, the religious, the activists, the political the I don't give a shit and every subset of every action depending on the size of the group or how many roles a smaller group might take on.

It is even here on the Collarme Forums, here in Politics and Religion, here in this thread, but what makes a person become what they may become is all to do with how much power they are given or allowed to have by whatever means.

Saddam Hussein the worst terrorist in history, I seriously doubt that, but then again that all depends on the range of your perspective and who told you what you know.

But then again, Shia and Sunni are subsets of Islam, if they are fighting each other, why do you give a shit, it is not your problem.

Lets do, because youre a complete fool, arrogantly commenting on things which you are completely ignorant of.

There is no metric where this is true.

Pure body count? The Holocaust, the Armenian Genocide and Stalin's ethnic resettlements all killed more people.
Number of incidents? Not compared to the long running terror campaigns in NI and Israel.

Now you have got to be taking the piss.

flcouple2009 -> RE: THe protestants and the catholics are still fighting over in NI(as in july 2010) (9/18/2010 10:08:38 AM)

Calling Sadam a religious terrorist is absurd even for you.  A tyrant or dictator who didn't give a care about anything but keeping power?  Yep right on.  But since he ran a secular government and was hated by the extreme Islamic groups for it calling old Sadam a religious anything is a complete fabrication.

But you know that.  You also remember that he was our good buddy and pal up until the point when we supplied badly needed missiles to Iran during the Iran/Iraq war.

As a nation we've made some really screwed up choices there.

Aneirin -> RE: THe protestants and the catholics are still fighting over in NI(as in july 2010) (9/18/2010 10:14:35 AM)

That is the trouble with dabbling in the affairs of other countries, we never know what is right until it is wrong.

Sanity -> RE: THe protestants and the catholics are still fighting over in NI(as in july 2010) (9/18/2010 10:38:03 AM)

There is, pure terror. Saddams Sunni regime terrorized the other sects of Iraq, especially the Shia and even more especially the marsh dwellers. And despite your lies and your antisemitic propaganda the number of incidents is right up there as well, he was arguably as bad as anyone ever was. Stalin and Hitler murdered more, but Saddams reign was unique in that his reign was one of pure terror.

Just wondering what a Right Wing Asshole's interest is in this is, is it, it is trying to justify the invasion of Iraq, big bully boy USA and their sycophants feeling the humanitarian need to stop what they believe to be true.

If Hussein was to be got rid of, that could have been done with surgical precision from funded professionals within.

In which case why was there no interest in what Robert Gabriel Mugabe was doing to his people in Zimbabwe at the same time?

Or for that matter any other petty tyrant that existed at the time or thereafter, or has the USA learned it's lesson, fighting overseas results in bodies coming back with no clear objective attained.

But lets keep religion out of this, what has happened is basically those that want went and got and that is it. Zimbabwe had nothing that was wanted, so what was happening there was quietly ignored.

SL4V3M4YB3 -> RE: THe protestants and the catholics are still fighting over in NI(as in july 2010) (9/18/2010 11:09:47 AM)

Terrorism is trying to bring about political change through violence.

Since Hussein was a part of the establishment he don't count as a terrorist. If the Shia had fought back against the regime with violence then they would have fallen under the category of terrorists. You see the long forgotten definition and original meaning of terrorism had nothing to do with how ghastly the acts of violence were only the objective behind then; political change. So one man's terrorist isn't another man's freedom fighter according to the original meaning of terrorism, they are both to both men.

However the words terrorist and terrorism are nice emotive words overly used in the modern age.

Not half as brutally as he did the kurds, old boy.
Maybe you could remind us who was funding him to wage war on the shi'ite theocracy in the country next door at that point, if you're so well informed about the history of Iraq?

Nope, we haven't hit one of the rare times you make sense. The timing of this is not odd, this stuff is still happening all the time, the IRA aren't going after 'banksters', Ireland was hit hard because they'd taken a fucktonne of loans to fuel their celtic tiger thing (which worked well for some years, even after these hard times they'll still be miles richer than last millenium), and I have no response to your cryptic last sentence.

Those rotten Irish!

Why they are as bad as those Icelanders.

HA!

Moonhead -> RE: THe protestants and the catholics are still fighting over in NI(as in july 2010) (9/18/2010 11:41:40 AM)

You could take that story a lot more seriously if you didn't know how many times they'd changed their story for why they were running protection rackets in Belfast over the last forty years.

Aneirin -> RE: THe protestants and the catholics are still fighting over in NI(as in july 2010) (9/18/2010 11:41:43 AM)

Well, if they are, then we can expect the full weight of security to get involved with that and the problem might even come to a quicker end seeing as money talks louder than flesh and blood.
