You know what you are doing, so there can be no forgiveness for that (Brian 12:34)

Even the Chinese are climbing into caves to recognise the problem.

Well said, Raechard.  (Would that be the book of Brian of Nazareth you are quoting?)

Actually using a computer uses alot of carbon.  It is very wasteful.

I don't have a computer.

I thought we discussed this before.

There are thousands and thousands of papers on the web....

quote:

Exactly.  Which is why cherry picking a couple of them, and then linking to conservative political/industry-funded web sites that further distort their findings and quote them out of context to create some pathetic illusion of controversy, does not put a dent in the fact that the overwhelming majority of climatologists have agreed for years now that we are driving this.

quote:

Debate makes the world go round and my opinion is my opinion.

quote:

Yes, but sadly the earth doesn't care about your opinion.  It will keep warming due to heat-trapping gases, regardless of what you feel the need to believe.

quote:

I never said there was no global warming. I'm in no doubt that there is but I just think the suns the biggest culprit.

That's really nice.  Solar forcing has been studied out the wazoo for years now by people with far better backgrounds than yours (presumably, since you won't cite any credentials).  It's simply not driving the warming trend. In fact, we are in a waning solar phase right now, even as we warm further.

Actually your cherry picking my posts! I'm sorry but I can't give you blood. I don't make opinion formed on very possibly false majorities.
You have every right to believe what you believe and I have every right to believe what I beleive. Once again we have debate! but you appear to be offended by my right to think and believe differently to yourself. Not once have I seen you cite your credentials and yet you make sarcasm about me not citing mine! Actually nobody with google at their finger tips needs to cite anything. You just have to be curious enough to look.
Even if I did believe that global warming was mainly due to human abuse, I still could do little more than I already do apart from perhaps lobbing a few stones at passing 4x4's

P.S.... Whats 'really nice'? or was that just meant to sound a tad sarcastic?

ATJ -

My point here (and in many of my "sarcastic" remarks - sorry but I get so utterly frustrated at all the self-appointed experts out here on incredibly complex scientific issues) that your opinion - and mine for that matter - is simply "nice".  It's very cute that you have one.  Okay seriously, it's admirable that we're trying to follow the science (and actually I do think I understand it better than most other non-climatologists).  But our opinions should not amount to a hill of beans next to those of the tens of thousands of people who study this.   And those experts are simply no longer debating this in any kind of numbers.  The only debate is in the political/business communities.   Do you not realize this?

Science is not a democracy.  Your "vote" and mine does not, and should not, carry the same weight as that of someone with a PhD in atmospheric science who has an office full of data and decades of experience in the right way to analyze them, and who goes to conferences and critiques his peer's paper submissions and has it out with them in a formal way when there are disagreements.  There's a reason they do this for a living.  They are better prepared to make sense of the questions than some Joe Blow you chatted with on the internet who thinks he knows more than the climatology community.  The Sun, The Sun!  Oh my God the Sun!  I'm sure they aren't taking the sun into account!  Stop the presses - I'VE DISCOVERED A NEW ANGLE.  They're not thinking about the sun!  The sun has 11-year cycles and nobody in the climate science community knows this!  But I do!  Wait!!!

Those pesky scientists with their consenses (consensa?). Biologists are also no longer debating that our genetic material is held in double helices of paired nucleotides.  Does this mean there's some kind of conspiracy in the biology field to "stifle dissent"?  Isn't "debate" good as you say?  Shouldn't we go on debating whether it's true or not long after all the biologists are basically satisfied?

If Mr. Joe Blow on the Internet has an alternative theory that genetic inheritance happens through a "Spirtual Stork Realm", should we hold up doing DNA testing of accused criminals until every member of the public is satisfied there's nothing to this Spiritual Stork Realm hypothesis that's still very popular among the public?  After all, none of those people have even met a scientist in person.  Maybe the scientists don't even exist.  How do they know the media isn't just lying to them when they say "DNA, which most scientists say is responsible for carrying traits from generation to generation...."

Speaking of which, should we stop the use of all medicines that were developed based in part on evolutionary genetic theory as long as a large segment of the public still believes in Biblical creation?  Isn't "debate" good for us, allthatjaz?  Let's have more of it, and never stop then.  After all, there's no rush on either using medicines to save lives or on adopting policies to head off the worst of climate change.  Just a few million deaths.  And what does a scientific consensus amount to, if I'M not convinced yet?  Isn't MY opinion important too?

I hope you can start to see how absurd this can get.

Just THINK of all those office jobs they could "create!" And lots more money to Unis for worthless "research" and "studies" that are ALWAYS , ALWAYS,....."inconclusive at this time."
"Come AHN people! We need more MONEY! This is LIFE or DEATH research we're doing here!"
They'll be saying that for the next 30 years!
What a fuckin gig eh? Sitting around in an office never "busy" chatting with your co-workers, checking the lines on football for the comming weekend, making $80k and getting your "4 weeks vacation" after 10 years "service!" Two "personal days" a month and plenty of "junkets" to other cities while you're getting "per diem" free hotels and you get to check out the other govt workers offiices and in the good weather they take you to ball games or the beach!
Or, working in the Dreaded Private Sector "DPS" where they might actually have to..."produce" something! And,.....they expect you to work late sometimes! And, they only pay you $50k a year and shitty insurance and only three weeks vacation after 10 years!
You bet your ASS they believe in "Global Warming!"

You would never know that- based on this thread.  It is free and easy.   These same people are the reason there is graphitti.
They would never get a bag out and go pick up litter on the highway-  they are so phony.   These same people do not have proper fitting garbage lids and their yard is a pig sty.

If we didn't have debate, then forums wouldn't exist! There are those who only see what is in front of them and there are those with peripheral vision. Why is it that when we don't follow in mass we are conspiring or mentally unstable ?
We all want to live in a safe world. We are being encouraged to do our bit and there's nothing wrong with that. Learning to live in a healthier environment and being made conscious of how we abuse 'mother earth' can only be a good thing but why does it feel like a fashionable trend and not a crisis?
Parents dropping their kids off at school in their 4x4's when they only live a couple of hundred yards down the road has always irked me. Waste packaging on our food products and all the other garbage we buy, has peed me off for a long time. Rain forests
being destroyed for mans greed has always been a concern in my household.
My carbon footprint is relatively small compared to most and that came about from desiring a healthier lifestyle.
I go in friends houses and find a kitchen full of different colored recycling bins because they want to do their bit towards the greenhouse affect and yet they have their heating or air conditioning on at full blast, they are having a new extension built even though they really don't need the extra space and of course that's going to need extra heating. They have 2 cars sitting on their driveway and they have just booked an air flight to some far away holiday destination. These are the very people that will ridicule my view on global warming and these are the people that really do believe they are doing their bit to save our planet!

If our governments were taking these scientists seriously, they would be doing more about it and not just gently encouraging us to reduce our carbon footprint. You only need to drive through rush hour traffic in any big city to see that hardly anyone is taking this very seriously.
If our governments really believe that the threat to our planet is being caused through human abuse, they would be enforcing laws and not mamby pambying about.
Why isn't household waste being used to make more green energy?
Why are millions of plastic bottles an hour still being disguarded in peoples household waste ?
Why are we outsourcing so much industry to far away lands?
Why, why, why?

The truth is, we only need to do our bit towards global warming if we feel like it and that is the main reason that I don't take this seriously.

Well, I am on the right and I believe in science, so you are wrong there. Of course I also believe in slowing down and proof reading my posts. Then if I ever try to imply that others are ignorant in comparison to myself, like you did here, I won't look like such a fool. So tell me, just how do you get science to come's from religion?

LOL.   Yeah- I did my own investigation by talking to these scientists DIRECTLY.

The poster is an expert because she has her agenda driven web sites.   Which really are not too impressive.

The goal is a GLOBAL CARBON TAX.  Nothing less then that.   Look at your next heat/light bill and check out how much you already pay in tax and fees and surcharges.

And you don't have your own agenda-driven websites?

PrisonPlanet is amazingly impressive.
