Two career soldiers, a doctor, and your youngest, who is evidently thriving...?

Helluva job, lady. Helluva job.

No offense taken.   I won't start problems, but I will finish them.    If your kvetching crybaby friend isn't serious, anybody can say so.   If he is, he needs his attitude fixed, as a prerequisite to learning - anything.

Dude! yourself.

Get serious.   You can start by flushing your skull, and if you can find a mind, try engaging it before you run your mouth.

"I won't start problems, but I will finish them"

Dude! If there's a problem, you responded to me. I see a solution there, and if you think a moment you might too.

And to think that post was your best so far. Sad, really.

jack8007 -> RE: Don't criticize the educatonal system or students (2/19/2011 10:38:53 AM)

You think you can fling obvious crap indiscriminately, badmouthing people and nobody's going to respond?     Or are you just saying you think somebody peed in your cornflakes?

I agreed you've been screwing my country.    You peed in your own cornflakes.  So when are you going to stop?

I would have thought that someone of your obvious maturity would know more about how to stress a point that they are trying to make.

I was obviously wrong.
Just goes to show that maturity does not breed intelligence.

We have some common ground here, I think. But it's not the WWII generation, it's my generation. The Boomers. We, as a generation, destroyed this country- with drugs, with liberalism/socialism, with our destruction of the family..... the list goes on.

We really do need to go back to the future.

How are you going to fix the fuck-ups of your generation?

Indeed.   I won't argue.

My suggestion is that any person keep any complaint as narrow and specific as possible.   If somebody really wants some corrective action, that's the best way to get it - or make any point.

And of course it's always good to think things through, at least a little.

Once you start whining about the general personality or characteristics of an entire generation (including oneself), or defending thoughtless people who insist on kvetching, you must expect that other people have the same right to answer, as you have to complain.

Right & wrong aren't always clear.   But it's always worth putting some thought into it, and staying on the right side.   Hopefully somebody will stand up and call people on obvious errors.   Our failure to do that is the most probably reason for our country's problems.

Neither teachers, nor socialists, nor boomers generally have screwed up America.    But mindless, ignorant, loudmouth fucktards and predators - and we all know who they are, the ones who don't need no stinkin' knowledge, or integrity - have certainly done more than their fair share of damage - and none of them rate crowing about it, and nobody should be proud of them.

This entire thread is a fair example of our problems.   People jump to conclusions and take sides about something where they OBVIOUSLY don't have the critical facts, and it quickly devolves into a political rant - mostly about liberals and socialists ruining the country.   That ignorant tack is the quickest way to wind up in a political and social dead end.

For those who have actually read history, Americans haven't had any serious socialists since Eugene Debs, and the unions he worked for have been a significant and largely positive influence in American history, largely because they are community projects, not people whose rationalization is greed, as opposed to teamwork.   Yes, most of us get around to greed, but I would rather it be later, than sooner, as our Truck Slave advocates.   If you want to be theoretical about it, ANY common project is socialistic - including insurance and military forces.   I do not know of any successful military force that is not socialistic - do you?

I have very little sympathy with those who want to disrupt or defame solely because they didn't stay awake in school.    I can understand their complaint that the educational (sic) system failed them, and I agree that they probably should have been taught with baseball bats, but nobody saw that at the time.    If they want to go back to school now, I suppose I could find some drill instructors to help me teach them to open their minds and use them.

Finally, something worth reading written by you.

jack8007 -> RE: Don't criticize the educatonal system or students (2/19/2011 11:46:22 AM)

Perhaps you should have read from the beginning.

or maybe I need to spell out every detail!

jack8007 -> RE: Don't criticize the educatonal system or students (2/19/2011 12:17:46 PM)

So why then do you defend thoughtless people, when somebody stands up and calls them?

Thoughtless people have the same right of free speech as anybody - but they don't have the right to be free of criticism.   Indeed, if we do not point out obvious errors, and we accept them as worthwhile, we endanger our country.   And I think that's a bigger risk than hurt feelings or general bad vibes.

If anybody wants to make the point that the educational system has failed, the best argument is to point to those leaders who don't believe that thinking about what we're doing is worthwhile - and the people who elect them.

And I'm particularly thinking of the president and his party who told the CIA that they had covered their ass when they warned in August 2001 that Al Qaeda was determined to strike in the US, and ignored FBI warnings of flight students who didn't want to learn to land, and ignored strategy games using aircraft as bombs, and ignored the fact that the WTC had been attacked before - because they knew that blowjobs in the Oval Office were way more important.

So they put us in a couple wars (one of which had NO connection to 9/11 - oops!) (and just guess how much wars cost?  To begin with, I saw an ad yesterday to pay Arabic translators more than a general officer, and that doesn't begin to count the beans, bullets, bandages & fuel oil) that we still have no clue about ending - and then they let Wall Street go all Enron, and told us (truthfully) that they had us by the balls, and we had to bail them out.   Yes, they had us by the balls, but welfare isn't socialistic if you're paying corporations, because corporations aren't real people.   We wouldn't want to be socialists like the Swedes - much rather have a population of dentally-challenged diabetics without health care.  Because they're FREE - free to be abused by their whoring politicians.

And so all we hear about is liberals and socialists, and no matter what you think about a teacher's free speech, it's always the liberals and socialists - specifically the people who want to look before we leap - who are to blame.   What a liberal socialistic thing to do, asking where all the lemmings are headed!

And that is why the Democrats will never amount to anything - they have no ambition.   All they want is to fuck a couple interns, while the Republicans are determined to fuck the entire country - and I will grant, they have done a pretty good job so far.

THAT's how our country got screwed up.  We were doing fine until we let the Religious Right vote Wall Street's stooges in, and now we're in an EPIC, Guinness-Book-of-World-Records mess.   The Romans lasted what (depending on how you count) around a millenium, maybe 2 - but here we are, trying all this democracy stuff we're so proud of, and we may not make it 300 years.   Whose fault is that?

Yeah, let's blame the teachers.   And let's find some Mexicans selling oranges on the freeway onramps, and blame them too.   Hell, they're the ones who should have known not to believe what Goldman Sachs was selling, it's all their fault.   Can't blame the people in charge - the educational system failed them.    We can't expect leaders who actually do what they want everybody else to - like actually do military service - because they have other priorities! like the proles don't.

Termyn8or -> RE: Don't criticize the educatonal system or students (2/19/2011 12:47:14 PM)

Nice ramble jack.

FR

The fact is that education cannot be given, it must be taken. Power on the other hand cannot be taken, it must be given.

On the education end, you can lead a horse to water.... and so forth. When the student has a real thrist for knowledge, he does not need to be told to drink. A teacher is then a tool in the student's quest for knowledge, much as a true leader is actually a servant.

Power cannot be taken by any means. Those who wish to attain it do so by threat. There is no truer statement in the world. By setting up a situation whereby you cede your personal power because the consequences would be worse, they "make" you do it. But you don't have to, you have the choice to die, or suffer other comsequences. In that sense, they really didn't take it now did they ? You chose.

You know what my first words would be in a class if I were the teacher ? " Anybody got something for the head ? ". I would be pleased if nobody did, but I would hold out a twenty dolar bill. I have to know the crowd. The idea here is to communicate. I would never be accepted as a teacher in the "system". But then I wasn't accepted well as a student either.

Do I seem uneducated ? Perhaps to some, those with a very narrow view. I think it's a huge mistake to equate school with education. It is a part of it, but not the whole story. You think you can keep your kids high on sugar, lock them in a room for five years and then when they go to school they will become nuclear physicists ? Not likely.

Unfortunately I am old enough to know what we have lost. Homework is really for the Parents, if any.

T^T

Nobody is tying you down and making you participate.   Everybody is perfectly free to leave unpleasant subjects to other people who may be more serious and reliable.

Of course, you're not likely to be taken seriously when you want to play Amateur Hour.   If you don't want your stomach turned, then stay out of the slaughterhouse.

You might want to re-think your current schematic for How to win friends and influence people.

Your current method seems to be lacking something in effectiveness.

Hmmm - here I was thinking somebody was talking about the educational system, or maybe politics or something.   Sorry I didn't realize you were flirting.   Not my idea of flirting, and thanks anyway, but goofballs are not friends I need.

If you are serious, act like it.   If not, act like that.    Do you know?  Or just don't care?    Do you expect people to take you at face value?   Or is it all a big joke for you?

Maybe you should rethink your schematic of life generally.
