The law wont take effect until its published, which, according to Secretary of State Doug La Follette, wont happen until the 10th day......

The law can't take effect until La Follette sends official notice to the Wisconsin State Journal in Madison to publish the language. State law grants La Follette up to 10 business days to publish laws, which means the collective bargaining measure must be published by March 25.

La Follette, a Democrat, opposes the law. He said Walker has asked him to publish the law Monday, but he said he wants to talk to the governor before doing so, adding he typically waits the full 10 days before publishing any law.

According to Judge Amy Smith.......

Judge Amy Smith ruled Falk's attorneys failed to show how blocking publication would cause serious harm - a key element to granting an emergency injunction - and refused to issue the order. She scheduled a Wednesday hearing to consider granting the order on a non-emergency basis.

So, seems more information will be available Wednesday.

Dims. Running away. Clutching at straws. La Follette, a petulant child. Nothing to see here.

As I said... wednesday.

Brain -> RE: Wisconsin loses collective bargaining (3/14/2011 6:32:39 PM)

This should keep collective-bargaining and Wisconsin in the news a little while longer. It seems Wisconsin is not as boring as I thought.

Wisconsin is not as boring as I thought, I guess.

Wisconsin Republican Targeted For Recall by Wife and Maid
The fact that another Republican family values creep is having sex with someone half his age is while he’s married to someone else is creepy and gross and totally expected. This is what you get when you elect people who need the public to believe the false image they project. The fact that she is a lobbyist is just so predictable and leads me to wonder if Republican men can only feel mild stirrings of lust when money is in play. We should note that Randy’s mistress lobbies for Persuasion Partners, among whose clients we find Scott Walker and Americans For Prosperity (aka: Koch brothers). Yeah, wherever we look we find Republicans, Koch, and dollars. Even in their beds.

If Mr. Hopper no longer lives in the marital home, but has failed to update his new address with the DMV as well as notifying the appropriate parties that he is no longer residing in the district he claims to represent, Mr. Hopper has some explaining to do. Mr Hopper is quite frankly ineligible to hold his seat if he no longer lives in the district.

Mr. Hopper has been a close ally of Governor Walker’s in his search and destroy mission against living wages for Wisconsinites, so it pains me to report that it looks like he’s in for a world of hurt, more imminent than a recall campaign. I’m also simply devastated to learn that Mr. Hopper’s maid and wife will be signing the petition to remove this morally-depraved dollar sign from office. When even your own family is targeting you for a recall, chances are good that you really should not be in office anymore.

No way is Scott Walker or other Republicans getting reelected in Wisconsin so the collective bargaining rights will eventually be restored. Remarkable how conservatives have this undeserved reputation for being fiscally conservative.

Scott Walker Rewards Wisconsin Tax Cheats While Homeowners Pay More

The Journal Sentinel did an investigation and found that hundreds of properties in Milwaukee alone (where Walker was the County Executive, a position much like a Governor but on a county level, or like a city manager) are allowed to fall off the tax rolls – properties that claim they are churches, nonprofit hospitals and other organizations that state lawmakers feel shouldn’t have to pay taxes.

Calculations based on the best estimate city assessors have – which come from vague and poorly reported data – show the exemptions are costly, driving up tax bills for average homeowners by nearly 20%. That’s close to $800 for a Milwaukee property-tax payer with a home assessed at $175,000….Meanwhile, assessors across the state fail to properly monitor exemptions – snubbing requirements – while the state Department of Revenue does little to enforce the rules.

The Journal Sentinel identified nearly $500,000 worth of properties with suspicious exemptions while examining just a few cases from 2010 in Milwaukee…. A quarter of the property owners never even responded to the form in 2010, yet they maintained their tax-exempt status.

Way to go, Scott. How’s that fiscal conservative budget thing looking now? To make matters worse, the problems found in Milwaukee are endemic of problems around the entire state.

Nice try Brain. Scott Walker was the county executive for Milwaukee County. Tom Barrett was his opponent in the election for governor and is the Mayor of Milwaukee. He is responsible for what happened in the city. Barrett is responsible for collecting those taxes.

There is another change in Wisconsin state law as a result of this bill. By the end of April there will be a "Do or Die" vote on individule unions. We will see just how many state employes really prefer to be in a union, or if they want out.

mnottertail -> RE: Wisconsin loses collective bargaining (3/15/2011 6:25:20 AM)

And if they want in, I expect that the will of the people is your primary aim (as so often is the hue and cry), rights will be restored in full, and we will all have a good laugh at noob republican incompetence, eh?

And quit fucking around with ideological bullshit, and get down to the business of fixing this country.

Before the card check bill can be passed. Decertifying would be the end of that bill too.

Not that it can be, now.
Time expired on that piece of shit back in Jan.

That will have to wait for the people, not just the union, to express their will, as in the ongoing recalls.

Any bets on how many Dims will be dim to run promising to eliminate the public referendum now required for pay raises above COLA? Reduced union pension contributions? Reduced union healthcare contributions?

mnottertail -> RE: Wisconsin loses collective bargaining (3/15/2011 9:17:10 AM)

More than nutsuckers I expect.  But we knew they have no social agenda, and actually no agenda whatsoever of substance, just blind ignorance now that the large no-nothing and nativist factions simmering since the creation of the republican party are making the run for it.  Any chance that the nutsuckers are going to do anything useful and worthwhile about budgets while they are in there? Or is this all gonna be flash and bang, poof and gone?

Cuz nobody is picking up voters being champions of the lifedraining large corporation at the expense and oppression of the wage-slaves (which was a plank in the founding of the republican party) ((((which is no more))))

We will have to see when that bill comes up for law, as it hasn't yet.

You seem to assume the Union is not composed of Americans. Now WHY would you want people to believe, that the Union is not composed of 100%, US Citizens?

Last I checked, a person that joins a Union, does not lose their right to express their will. As such, the 'will of the people' is also composed of a large number of US Citizens that are in favor of the Unions. Since, it has been noticed across the country, the manner and methodology Gov. Scott Walker and Republicans have used to reduce the budget problem (give tax give aways to corporations that help get them in office, and blame Unions for the incoming revenue numbers). More Americans are siding with Unions on the issue.

If you blame Unions for stealing taxpayer dollars, then shouldn't you be blaming corporations more so? That would be LOGICAL. Since, once the money is in the hands of the workers, its *THEIR* money, not yours. Corporations, unlike US Workers in Unions, don't bill the Goverment for a 'break even amount' (i.e. the solution from collective bargaining deals), they imply a higher gross profit. Maybe Gov. Walker should tell those companies in Wisconsin, that the state is slashing payments by 10-15%, but are expecting those companies to keep giving their products/services as if such a payment reduction had never occured. And do so without complaining. How do you think companies operating in Wisconsin (small and extra large) would react?

what part of "not JUST the union" dont you understand?

servantforuse -> RE: Wisconsin loses collective bargaining (3/15/2011 2:41:49 PM)

This is priceless. Remember the protester driving his tractor and manure speader around the capital sqaure in Madison ? Well, his name is Tod Pulvermacher. On July 2, 2010 he was convicted of his 4th OWI and had his driving priviledges suspended for 33 months. Just like the dems that fled the state, this guy is a dope. Charges are pending.

Lucylastic -> RE: Wisconsin loses collective bargaining (3/15/2011 3:29:04 PM)

Proof positive that dopes come in every stripe and every flavour

I guess someone named bill can come up for air, but why would he come up for law?

The referendum requirement et al have already been signed into law; the law should be published tomorrow.

mnottertail -> RE: Wisconsin loses collective bargaining (3/16/2011 7:02:45 AM)

Reduced union pension contributions? Reduced union healthcare contributions?

Your lack of comprehension is not eqivalent to truth.  What was passed had appropriations provisions removed (that would be plus or minus).  You are down to  vote yearly and limit bargaining.

No other budgetary matters could be passed BY LAW, or did you miss the actual news on that?

truckinslave -> RE: Wisconsin loses collective bargaining (3/16/2011 7:22:31 AM)

Requiring a referendum is not an appropriation.

First google hit:

"The law ends collective bargaining for public workers over everything except salary increases no greater than inflation."
The bill has passed.

Poor mn.
