Okay..who hidden the cloth measuring tape?  I need to get my measurements so I know what the heck I am doing.

Sometimes you will lose measures and not lose weight.  You can lose fat being it is burning up and toning the muscles.  During the first 2 weeks after the operation, you will feel like you have been rolled over by a steamroller.

There is a scale that measures fat content, the BMI and water weight as well as your regular weight.  Most physicians will use it for their patients who has undergone their surgeries.

I am just waiting for the nurse to call me.  The sooner we get this done, the sooner I can lose this I can get rid of this problem.

Ooooooh!!!! I loves veggie burgers!!! Costco has these really great black bean burgers that are spicy & delicious!

I'm shocked!  I thought you were strictly a carnivore! [:D]  I expected you to threaten my life when I suggested veggie burgers.
I love the spicy black bean burgers too!  The only veggie burgers I HATE are the soy burgers! They smell & taste like hot dogs which I can't stand![:'(]

Nope. I'm an omnivore who leans toward vegetarian. My problem has always been getting enough protein when I stop eating meat. But I could happily give up meat except for fish & bacon. I consider fish a meat, not a vegetable like some. Interestingly, fish is not considered meat in a kosher diet.

Fae, I have no potassium issues. My potassium levels are consistently good without taking the kcl. My Dr keeps an eye on that for me & she only prescribed the kcl in case I wanted to take it. Since I do well eating a banana every day, I'm good. But I appreciate your concern & it's a good reminder for others.

Never ever do girl pushups on your knees. You don't get any real fast benefit doing them that way because you never build up your core and that's where a lot of your strength for a pushup comes from.

Start doing wall pushups, with your feet a couple feet away from the wall. Then do pushups on a high counter, then a regular dining table, then a coffee table, then the floor. Its progressive and can take a while to build up the strength to move on to the next step, but you'll get there and still be getting all the work of a reg pushup, that you wouldn't be getting if your knees were on the ground.

*duly noted, because I have a decent amount of upper body strength for a female but need to up that ante.. keep those suggestions coming, pretty girl, and Thank You..*

Saggy skin thoughts.

No mattter what, when you lose weight, you're going to have extra skin. The older you are, the more likely it is to stay saggy because as you age, you lose collagen in your skin. The best ways to combat that is to consistantly tone the muscles under the skin, and apply lotion. Lotion helps to moisturize the skin and the actual act of applying it increases blood flow. The skin will slowly tighten up as you tone the muscles underneath. Which is why people who lose weight by dieting alone will have MORE extra skin than people who exercise. And people who only do cardio based exercise will have more skin still than people who do weight bearing exercise.

I tell everyone not to be afraid of extra skin, its still healthier, and its proof of everything youuve accomplished. And hell, win tthe lottery and you can get it all cut off. Haha. Ok, sorry, nevermind.

Gravity sucks, especially for us women. Weight training, clean eating, LOTS of water consumption, and a good moisturizer can help fight against it somewhat.

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (6/2/2011 4:11:58 PM)

I drink a whole lot of water, but I've never used lotion on my skin. My skin has always had so much natural moisture in it that the lotion tends to just sort of stay on top & not soak in very well.

I went to the store & I'm walking a lot better, although I was still moaning from the pain. While I was at the store, because I hadn't eaten yet today, a cake fell into my basket. It looked most yummy. And then I went back & put it back & went to the hummus instead. I reminded myself of how good it feels to have loose pants today.

Speaking of the pants, they have an elastic waist & had a drawstring until the last time I washed them. The drawstring broke & soon I won't be able to wear them anymore. Kinda sad because I like them, kinda thrilling because it means I'm losing. Inches at the very least.

I can't wait until I can start doing some weight training. I have a very strong body even when I've let it go to pot. It tends to come right back. So thank you for the tips, Ghita. I don't really care about the saggy skin, but anything that I can do to look more attractive to myself, I'm willing to try, short of surgery.

GhitaAmati -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (6/2/2011 4:14:54 PM)

Being attractive to your self matters a WHOLE lot more than what anyone else thinks.

As for the pants, find a big blunt carpet needle and thread a new drawstring through the waistband. No reason to give up a perfectly good pair of pants.

-eta you can also do it with a knitting needle that doesn't have a big head on the back or a crochet hook or even a chopstick. Just ducktape the drawstring to tje back end and push the needle through all the way around.

I use almond oil (from the grocery store) to seal the moisture in right after I have my night time shower or bath. I read that almond oil is what is used in massage oil, dont know if that is true or not. You can use other oils too, I used to use olive oil but find it too heavy/oily, almond oil is light and doesnt smell of anything, unless you want to add a scent but I never have tried that. On really dry parts like elbows or feet I use a dab of lanolin. I make up my own Vit C serum for my face at night, then daytime i use a different serum from the store and sun screen of course, waterproof 35 on my arms/body and 80spf for my face.

I have had several guys tell me that i have very soft skin. [:)]

FelineFae -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (6/2/2011 7:39:31 PM)

Scale says i'm down five pounds, not really "feeling" it though. i'm curious as to how much of that is water-weight, as i'm still trying to rehydrate after being sun-sick.[>:]
Dinner was a portion of roast beef, an 100 calorie croissant, and green grapes.

KMsAngel -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (6/3/2011 12:28:18 AM)

safety pin works well for rethreading drawstring too. i tend to have more pins than carpet needles [:D], cause i quilt like that

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (6/3/2011 1:21:42 AM)

I thank y'all for the ideas on how to refurbish the pants. I actually used to make all my own clothes, from the time I was old enough to push the pedal on the old treadle machine. I know how to do it, I just don't wanna!! So there!!! I want new clothes in smaller sizes as I lose.

GhitaAmati -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (6/3/2011 4:45:53 AM)

New clothes is ALWAYS a great motivation! Any opportunity to go shopping!!yay!

(Daddy hides my bank cards whenever he hears me say I lost 5lbs)

No workout for me today. Spent my break at the bank disputing fraudulent charges.

In some of the other discussion boards where they focus on fitness and losing weight they have "challenges and competitions" amongst themselves to help them stay motivated and goal oriented.  Some are weight loss goals, some are exericise challenges, some are things like drinking all your water or getting your goal of veggies in etc.  Some of them are walking challenges.

Say for the month of june, you have a minutes exercise challenge -- people post today what their goal for exercising in minutes is for the month of June and then they strive to meet that goal in the month of June.  For example, someone who wants to do some form of actual exercise per day for 30 minutes would have a goal of 900 minutes for the month of June.  And every day they post how many minutes towards their goal they have done.  At the end since you all like posting pics and stuff you can "award" those who reach their monthly goal with some "trophy" or such which is a picture of the thing.

angel

Sounds like a good way to stay accountable & on track.  I'll start the ball rolling w/a minimum of minutes for June:

480 minutes for 4weeks in June on "Strength Training"
840 minutes for 4 weeks in June on "Aerobics"

**Eta my minutes to date (June 2, 2011).....**
Aerobics=155 minutes
Strength Training=60 minutes

Aerobics=275 minutes
Strength Training=120 minutes

I added 120 minutes to my aerobics (2hrs kickball last night) and 60 minutes to strength training for tonight's class.

I woke up in enough pain this morning that I needed a vicodin first thing. And it's not just my back today, it seems to be every joint in my body. [:(] As soon as the pain is dulled, I will start moving & hopefully the pain won't be as bad tomorrow. The thing is, the last couple of days I'd had so little pain that I moved a bit more than usual. Apparently no good deed goes unpunished. *sigh*

VirginPotty -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (6/3/2011 12:16:29 PM)

{{{{Gentle hugs}}}} I'm sorry you're in so much pain, Lin

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (6/3/2011 12:42:16 PM)

Thanks Miss Potts!! I've now eaten my breakfast, the pain is dulled & I'm looking forward to my day. I need to go to a couple of stores. Today is $5 Friday at Dominick's & I can get 2 lbs of blueberries for $5 & 3 lbs of ground turkey for another $5!! But first I will walk & I need to get that 14 lbs of kitty litter out of my car. I've had it in there for a week & a half. I had to get the people at the store to get the lid off the bucket for me & put it in my car. The last one I bought, I couldn't get the lid off with my poor little arthritic hands. I found myself stabbing at it with a big old butcher knife while crying in frustration! I am amazed at how much of the new packaging is next to impossible for me to get into now. I hate being protected from accessing stuff I've paid good money for. *sigh* Don't ever develop arthritis, you won't like it!!! I can't even use my Norwegian philosophy of "it's just pain, it'll go away" on it, because it ain't never goin away. [8|]

MCLady -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (6/3/2011 1:20:53 PM)

Off to my "Body Sculpting" class. Going to do some "back" exercises beforehand.

Have a great weekend![sm=weightlift.gif]
