The pain dr is going to inject both my hips with cortisone on Thursday & I'm hoping that will bring me enough pain relief that I will be able to start being more active again. The form asked me what my goal was there & I said that I just wanted to be pain-free enough that I could get back to the activity level I was at last year. Here's hopin!!!

Hi Linnaea,

I've had three cortisone injections in my right hip in the past 6 mos., one in the SI joint and two in the piriformis. They have helped me tremendously. I've also had a couple of trigger point injections to help with any lingering pain. Those are basically lidocaine with a small amount of cortisone. I've gone from pain on and off for three years, to constant pain for months on end, to an occasional day of pain here and there.

Good luck,
peach

Thank you so much for telling me this. The position the Dr put me in yesterday to see where he should start on relieving my pain hurt me. By 10pm last night, I was having trouble walking & came home & took 2 vicodin with very good relief. Today when I tried to get out of bed, the pain was the worst it's been yet. So I guess he's correct that the hips are the best place to start. I had planned to do some things around the apartment today, but it looks as though I'm going to be sitting & lying down for the most part. At least I have hope that after Thursday I will have some relief, at least for awhile. The injections won't cure the arthritis, but I look forward to being able to get around better.

I really hope that works out for you. I know how frustrating chronic pain can be.

Ok, so I weighed in today, two weeks after I started back on my health kick...

And I've lost 2.4 pounds.  Not a lot, but it's a little over a pound a week, which I suppose is what I'm supposed to lose.  I confess I've been slacking on my exercise routine.  I'm going to have to be more vigilant about putting in my 30+ minutes a day.  I might be able to lose more.

FelineFae -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (6/9/2011 2:03:52 AM)

i suspect the majority of my weight loss so far is due to this curious dehydration. 'Still trying to remedy that, but being ill hasn't helped.

my pregnant friend is wanting me to join her in a water-work-out class. i would enjoy it, but i fear that my hair colour would bleed in the pool-water. i don't think the pool-people would like this, and i fear the effect the chemicals would have on the health of my hair. So i'm looking into swimming caps. Should fit in with the rest of my archaic accessories.

Congratulations Sylvere!! That's great! Keep up the INCREDIBLE work!

Don't go down that road, Fae.  Dehydration is no joke!  Pinch the skin on the back of your hand & if it doesn't bounce back immediately (stays in a "tent" position) then you're dehydrated.  If your urine is a dark color that's another sign of dehydration.  The lighter your urine the more hydrated you are.  That's how I check myself.[:)]

Do you use the over the counter color?  I do & I usually wait a week then all is well.  Rinse your hair during your next shower & see if any color bleeds.  Once you get a clear rinse then it should be "safe" to go swimming[:D]

That's always a possiblity.  How healthy is your hair? Does it break easily, thinning?  If you don't want to wear a swim cap check on shampoos/conditioners that are good for ridding the chemicals from your hair.

Yanno, I love you guys, especially for persevering in your personal efforts and in keeping this thread going.
Each and every one of you is cherished and blessed.

I have started back on my routine today. I feel ab-fab. Just had an energy bar and milk for a light but hi-protein pre-workout breakfast, and did 41 minutes on the Wii. This evening, I am going to be checking out some new programs I got for the Wii, including Biggest Loser, Momuchan's (which is funny, it's all in some flavor of Chinese, I think..), and a nice Pilates program that will go especially well in the evenings.

Does anyone beside me take ginseng supplements of any kind? Just curious..

Carpe diem, y'all.. [sm=champ.gif]

Last night I did the circuit training class after doing my strength training & I was SPENT!  I was so full of sweat complete strangers felt compelled to comment on my appearance on my way to my car.  I'd have showered/changed at the gym but I wanted to get home to walk the dog.  (Priorities, don't cha know)[;)]

**Eta, sorry SJ, no ginseng experience here...I used to take the vitamin for my memory but I kept forgetting to take it![8D]**

I am NPO til after my injections this afternoon. I'm ravenous & thirsty!! But the procedure should start in less than an hour & hopefully bring me enough relief so that I can start moving about more.

VirginPotty -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (6/9/2011 12:30:24 PM)

Hope it works out for you, Lin!

Tonight it's kickball practice then walking the dog.  I am so full from my lunch of brown rice, salad, salsa and grapes all mixed together! [:-]

I am back from the injections. I had the sedation, & it really wasn't that bad. They fed me a little after. Who knew there were saltines that had no salt on them? Weird!!

I walked into my apt & wanted every single bit of food in it. But am settling for my normal breakfast of yogurt, blueberries, Kashi U & a banana. It's too soon to tell if the cortisone will work. It takes 3 days or so for it to begin to be effective. Right now, I feel like dancing!!!

Ugh.

I ate crap today and now I am paying for it. Too much soft cheese is NOT a good thing (sorry...TMI friends...)

Anybody ever done a cleanse?

Am I better off just trying to stick with fruits, veggies, lean proteins and fiber?

Never done a cleanse, but I'm interested in people's opinions...

Rolling on the floor laughing my fool ass off!!! Lack of pain for me is like the best high I've ever experienced.

To answer Trappy, I don't have any personal experience with cleanses--except from the Crohn's, of course [8D]--but it doesn't seem that it could harm you, unless you do it too often. I've even considered it myself, especially with the pain pills I've been taking. My Father's wife & he were strong believers in that sort of thing. I really hope that someone with first hand experience comes here to discuss it.

SorceressJ -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (6/10/2011 12:39:35 PM)

Me too. I've only ever done any sort of a 'cleanse' once, and that's been awhile.

To the best of my limited knowledge, there are different types of cleanses, each of which employs slightly differing methodology - for example, a colon cleanse can involve ingested supplements and/or enemas which are also enhanced, but I don't know what with.
There was also a type of cleanse that I did once, which involved a gallon jug of this tea-like stuff which I puchased at my friendly neighborhood freakfest, Wally World (Wal-Mart), and involved fasting for two days while I consumed it in measured portions (yeah, nothing but that, water, and fruit juices for two days. I was about ready to kill something and eat it raw by the time I was done, but on the other hand I'd lost pounds and felt fantastic. Not to be done very often, of course, but worth it, IMO..).

There are also the many articles and quotes by people in the know who swear by periodical cleansings, and I tend to agree that for most people, it's a Good Thing.
Shall we read up and do a little product research/field testing and report back..?

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (6/10/2011 2:15:27 PM)

I finally got to the pharmacy & got my pain meds. They're so much better than the last ones. While I feel like my pelvic area is on fire from the cortisone injections today, the pain meds make it so I can walk more pain free. So I have eaten my yogurt & cereal & am now ready to head out for a very short walk. Wish me well, y'all!!

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (6/10/2011 2:41:31 PM)

I just went for my walk around the block. I think I'm walking faster today because it only took me 5 minutes. And the pain didn't really start to bother me til I got home & started down the stairs to my place.

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (6/13/2011 9:00:16 AM)

Wake up everyone!!! My pain lifted last night & I was able to do so much!!! Today is my apt cleaning day. I've taken 1/2 pain pill as a prophylaxis, but so far my pain today is so light it's like not having any at all!

I went to a dance studio last night & chair danced. That may have helped!! Next week, I'm gonna try dancing in an upright position!! I really can't tell you how exciting this is. after nearly 7 months of constant debilitating pain, to be able to do the things that I did last night pain-free is like a fuckin miracle!!!
