it's very upsetting what happened to that man. and then the cops fired flash bombs INTO groups of people who were trying to help him. fracking ridiculous.

my money's on the USMC, too. =p
and that deluded, completely detached mayor they have in Oakland needs to just resign right now.

Given how the US govt and institutions treat vets and those in the military, I seriously wonder why anyone with any brains joins up... A large number of homeless are vets.. why? the US doesnt take care of its own? Doesnt that say a lot?

Ex military it is the same here, used, abused then forgotten about. It is no coincidence that many homeless people once served in the military, and a great many of ex military access the charitable care organizations, because there is nothing useful via government funding.

Only yesterday I learned of the plight of many ex military personnel being given short shrift by the mental health system because their training, brain washing even makes it difficult for them to fit into civvy street.

As it is anyone youngster I come across who expresses a desire to join the military, I give them a low down on what life is like as ex military, for no one ever thinks of that, and it is common in the military that with the institutional family nature of it, that expectation is expected in civvy street, it is a big shock to the system when it comes, if I can, I will save people from that.

No one wants you when you are not useful and people who need are not wanted either.

After viewing the video linked to in the OP....

1. The OPD used MEGAPHONES to warn the OWS protesters that they were there illegally and would be arrested if they didn't leave.
2. The OWS protesters not only didn't leave but, judging from the paint on several OPD uniforms, shot OPD with paintball guns.
3. Nowhere in the video did I see the OPD take a headshot at anyone, therefore "friendly fire" cannot be ruled out.
4. Assuming the person in the Navy uniform and person in the Marine uniform are in fact in the Navy and the Marines both of them violated the UCMC and are subject to Courts Maritial under the UCMJ. Note: The POTUS and several very prominent Democratic members of Congress have publically expressed support for the OWS protests and, therefore, have made any/all such events political in nature.

Civilian police dont have a fuckin thing to do with ucmj and they werent holding them for military authority.

Actually, Lilly, many vets are homeless due to PTSD ... its a huge factor.

i know that; it's still sad that they aren't taken care of, and have no choice but to rely on every single service they can qualify for, just to get by. 
i don't think our society looks after them the way it should.

And more and more women are joining the homeless ranks.

There are some who will never be off the streets again. Some who simply cannot deal with what they have seen and done themselves.

Our vets get enough bullshit. To come home and listen to people complain about the jobs they were commanded to do.. and having to remember the friends they lost while there....

i'm not quite sure what you're on about now. no one here is bullshitting or complaining, this thread seems fairly supportive. 

you may have misunderstood my posts -- i'm sad that vets are put into the position of becoming homeless or having to rely on tons of services because, to me, it seems like once they return, people just sort of forget them and let them go down the drain.
