ORIGINAL: DaddySatyr To me, "Pro-Choice" includes people who support a woman's right to have a doctor rip her fetus apart at up to 24 weeks when the fetus has full pain response (except the back and top of the head) at 14 weeks. It includes people that think ending a life is a method of "birth control" when there are so many other methods available. Societies advance but it seems ours has stagnated. Even the "Morning After" or "Plan B" pill is preferable to the brutality and heartless violence that some people continue to support. I would fully support a program to provide free birth control (including "Morning After") to any woman (over the age of 16 without parental consent) who asks for it if people would stop be so damned blood thirsty and limit fetus-rending to 12 weeks or under. We have methods that are far superior to the ones that were available to women almost 40 years ago. A woman doesn't need to miss two periods, go to the doctor, pee in a cup, wait three days and see if a rabbit dies. We have home tests that are as accurate as any test that a doctor can give. We don't need to allow abortions to happen so late-term. Let's let "choice" mean that women can avail themselves of methods that are not so psychologically debilitating (for so many) and let's put a stop to infanticide. There are babies that are born at 25 weeks that live (I was married to one). At 8 weeks old, a fetus has a response to pain in the palm of their hand. Let's start advancing and stop sounding like cold-hearted, blood-thirsty barbarians that think so little of our youth that we take a "meat grinder" approach? Peace and comfort, Michael Agreed, with two stipulations: 1. If a woman is in a state that restricts access to abortions (AKA Mississippi), that would be a reason to exempt them from the 12 week limit, if they had difficulty getting transportation to a clinic. 2. If the health of the woman was in danger, or the fetus was deformed, both of which may not be obvious by 12 weeks. Also, for girls under 16 who get pregnant, either parent or a social worker should be allowed to grant permission. I don't want to imagine a 14 year old incest victim whose father/child's father says no abortion, and whose mom is too scared of dad to sign the paperwork, forced to carry her brother or sister to term. I should have mentioned that I was talking about abortion as a form of birth control. Rape/incest/mother's health are always exemptions in my book. Peace and comfort, Michael Well, you didn't address the birth defect baby, but I think we have a workable compromise. Given how far apart we often are politically, I suspect that compromise would fly with 80% of the US population. Of course, there are a lot of people who make a lot of money off of arguing the issue, and a lot of folks use it for votes, so we will never see an intelligent compromise like that...sigh.
