No doubt - I never forget what party got us in this mess in the first place !!!

When Clinton was running, how did he win? "It's the Economy STUPID!"

the Republicans might do well to use that.

Given where the economy came from intrinsically, that would be a very ill-advised move.

The American public is notorious for short memory, Stern. Ask John Q Public what unemployment and the stock market were like 4 years ago and most of them will swear it was better than now.

Half the American public is of below average intelligence. FOX News has made that part of their business plan.

I just thought it was extremely ironic that people who wanted to talk about things they feel are more pertinent to the election choose to hijack the culture wars thread to do so instead of actually going out and creating a new thread that highlights their important issues. Instead, they choose to bury their discussion of the so-called important issues in this thread that has to do with gay bulling. Am I the only one shaking my head [8|]

thread drift?

Actually you might be the only one shaking your head but it's only because I am trying to avoid the inevitable cervical injuries this place can cause people of conscience. [8D]
I think it's pretty remarkable some of em can sell crap (and BOY, do I ever mean CRAP) about Obama pushing a girl when he was little and laughing cause he had Urkel for a roomie in college comparing it to prep school GAY BASHING. Trust me, I got myself expelled from one of the best one's in southern new england and had to finish in public schools... The kind of phoney 'manning up' shit that goes on in most of em is pretty fucking ugly. And rich kids are FAR less innocent and naive than public school high schoolers. Implying he didn't remember (WELL, THAT'S THE LATEST OF THREE VERSIONS IN 24 HOURS), Or "didn't know he was gay" (which is probably the closest he is going to get to the truth... Since the guy apparently isn't gay according to his family, but what matters is Romney attacked the kid because HE THOUGHT HE WAS GAY... or doesn't intent and motive mean anything?).
Anyway, at least anybody WHO CAN FUCKING READ A WHOLE BOOK already knew that, if in fact they wanted to know about their President.
Course, the 'truth' ain't out until the idiot scumbags who wait for their material to be neatly packed by some hack who's predetermined purpose of creating subterfuge as opposed to creating anything meaningful in political dialogue.
And all they have accomplished is to demonstrate to some people exactly how important this issue actually is. I admire people like DC, who manage to not blow a fucking cork at some of this stuff that gets typed into the glowing cube.

erieangel -> RE: Romney antigay bully? (5/11/2012 4:22:00 PM)

Romney's entire non-apology is what I have an issue with, not that he appears to have been a bully in high school.

Bush once explained his youthful transgressions by saying that when he was young and stupid, he was young and stupid. That showed a certain amount of introspection, maturity and humility. Romney's response showed only arrogance.

A presidential response??? I disagree. A presidential response would have been for Romney to have owned up to the attack (given that it had been independently substantiated by 5 classmates) and then Romney should have used the entire episode as a teaching moment for the nation that bullying is bad. People come in all shapes, sizes, colors, hues but there is never any excuse for one person to bully another and he was wrong to do so when he young--that is what Romney should have done.

Romney let a perfect opportunity to slip past him. He could have shown leadership on this issue, like he could shown leadership on when the self-described "yokel" lambasted Romney when said "yokel" earlier encouraged Romney to get rid of his gay staffer and Romney did just that. Romney is being led by his nose and it appears even his leaders are not liking him much for it.

Why on earth would you think that logic and reason would prevail in this discussion?

I heard about this today... it's from an ABC News report.  More info:

Christine Lauber of South Bend, Indiana, John's older sister, told ABC News "she has no knowledge of any bullying incident involving her brother"

"The family of John Lauber is releasing a statement saying the portrayal of John is factually incorrect and we are aggrieved that he would be used to further a political agenda. There will be no more comments from the family,” said Betsy Lauber, another sister.

On Thursday, cracks began to appear in the story when Stu White, one of sources used by the Post, told ABC News he "was not present for the prank, in which Romney is said to have forcefully cut a student’s long hair and was not aware of it until this year when he was contacted by the Washington Post.

Bullshit. Pissants who grow up to be liberals whine to their mommy's for protection, and boys who grow up to be conservatives ask their father's how to defend themselves. Its only independents who didnt tell their families when they were kids.

dcnovice -> RE: Romney antigay bully? (5/11/2012 7:41:02 PM)

Thanks, MSLA.

It was interesting to go from your Examiner link to the actual ABC News stories:

Sister of Alleged Romney Target Has "No Knowledge" of Any Bullying Incident

Romney Friend Stu White Says Campaign Wants Him to Counter Prank Accusations

A few things caught my eye:

-- From ABC: "Christine Lauber, who is a few years older than John Lauber, was at college when the alleged incident happened, and said the brother and sister were 'doing our own thing' at the time."

-- From the Examiner: "She also told ABC that 'even if it did happen,' her brother 'probably wouldn’t have said anything.'" This accords with my own experience of antigay bullying: I never, ever told my family about it.

-- From ABC: Betsy Lauber "did not say specifically how the Washington Post story was incorrect."

-- I had to go to ABC News to learn a key (imho) point that the Examine omitted: Stu White was asked by the Romney campaign to go to Romney's defense. Whie is "still debating" whether he will.

-- The Post does seem to have erred in describing White as "long bothered" by the incident. But despite its plural headline--"Cracks appearing in Washington Post hit piece on Mitt Romney"--and the-whole-story's-falling-apart tone, the Examiner did not identify any other inaccuracies.

You let grandma and grampa tell you what kind of family to construct imagine. But when it comes to hate, you're callin' your own shots. You'll go far in this lifestyle.

Mmmmm... so DOCTORS that have studied phobias and "progressive leftist propaganda or indoctrination"? The last person who said something approaching that was a skinhead.
I thought they were out of style since Sally Jesse Rafael went off the air.

If those doctors studied correctly and not paying lipservice to the leftist propaganda and indoctrination they would not speak about "phobia". It has nothing to do with fear (Phobos is fear in Greek). You know what a real fear is? Agoraphobia, then a person does not dare to go out. The person with agoraphobia indeed has fears. The person fears to walk along the streets etc. Arachnophobes indeed fear spiders, they run or scream. So called homophobes, xenophobes and/or islamophobes do not run away in fear. They have no fear. Therefore the definitions are ridiculous.

BTW My grandparents have passed away some three decennia ago. My parents more recently. I admire their conservative and old fashioned lifestyle still today.

BTW2 Obese children are bullied too. Is this Obesephobia?

*blushes*

What a kind thing to say! Thanks, Skipper.

I spent a fair chunk of my college years volunteering in homeless shelters, where you learn to roll with almost anything. The trickiest bit was when I couldn't quite make out what someone was saying, so I'd nod kindly, hoping to God I wasn't saying, "Sure you can roast marshmallows in the bathroom!"

You may believe that he thought the guy was gay but imo you have to put yourself back to that time, 48 years ago anyone that had hair that touched their collar was considered a hippie.. the Beatles with their mop top was so out there.. Elvis shaking his hips was "shocking".. and various other things like The Doors being told to change "Light my Fire", specifically the lyric, "Girl, we couldn't get much higher" when they played it on the Ed Sullivan show.. Those things seem so ridiculous to us today.. So back then, any guy with longish hair would have looked like a "hippie" and very out of place in a school like that.. If what i read was true about them just wanting to cut his hair then imo it was about the hair and only about the hair.. And yes, doing that to the guy was wrong but imo it wasnt about thinking he was gay..

And imo, he likely doesnt remember doing that specific prank.. I am sure many of the boys that attacked me in school (several times) when i was a kid dont remember what they did either or think it was just boys being boys.. (& I am not gay)..

Yeah, works really well when girls are being bullied by older boys. Yup.

homophobia tends to have to do with people being afraid of "catching the gay".
