If the incident (or other similar incidents) did not occur, then what exactly is Romney apologizing for with his statement? Well, qood question. Here is the text of "his apology". quote:
“Back in high school, I did some dumb things, and if anybody was hurt by that or offended, obviously I apologize for that,” Romney said in a live radio interview with Fox News Channel personality Brian Kilmeade. Romney added: “I participated in a lot of hijinks and pranks during high school, and some might have gone too far, and for that I apologize.” He is not referring to the incident this forum is "debating" in this instance, but in the same article he talks to the incident you and others are "debating" here: quote:
“As this person indicated, he was closeted,” Romney said. “I had no idea that he was gay and can’t speak to that even today. But as to the teasing or the taunts that go on in high school, that’s a long time ago. For me, that’s about 48 years ago. Again, if there’s anything I said that is offensive to someone, I certainly am sorry for that, very deeply ] . Romney has responded in the best way possible about a fictional incident thrown out by the main-stream media and embelished with anti-gay spins a day after Obama anounces he is for gay marrage. Clearly this "charge" is lame and transparent to all and has not affected Romney's rise in the polls and may even have helped him, especially with his calm and well reasoned response. added. A Presidential Response.
