So why do you throw such histrionics about teh eevil liberals voting for that Kenyan candidate over an obvious corollary to that argument? If the neocons hate teh Kenyan so much, he had to be the best candidate going...

Unions are NOT about a worker's right to choose - they are about having a single voice at the bargaining table to negotiate wages and working conditions.

So, Unions are only about bargaining for their members, and not for fair work practices? That is, if two people have the same experience, the same ability, the same employment duration, and perform the same work, the person that is Union should get more than the other one that isn't?

quote:

Oh, but suddenly the GOP got religion about "choice". Like a woman's right to choose an abortion. Or being able to choose your spouse if you're gay. Or women being able to choose birth control... The hypocracy of the GOP is nauseating.

Yeah, 'cuz if you support one, you have to support the other, right? Wouldn't that make the Democrats hypocritical since they support one, but not the other, too? Or, is it not hypocritical for them since you called it on the R's first?

quote:

This is a last, desperate gasp of a dieing political party. What's left of the Old White Guys will become even more extreme and irrelevant. Maybe then we'll see a strong, progressive 3rd party emerge that can demonstrate true leadership.

The Republican party isn't dying. Gimme a break. I do agree on the desire to see a 3rd party.

The UNION THUG tripped over a guy-wire/stake for the Americans For Prosperity tent.

At the 1:00 mark did you see a different UNION THUG grab the reporter's jacket collar and jerk him backwards almost off his feet?

How about from 1:10 onward...did you see UNION THUGS pulling the AFP tent down on top of the people, including women and children, inside?

Nothing like the left's tolerance for fellow American's right to freedom speech, eh?

Hillwilliam -> RE: Michigan (12/12/2012 9:21:26 AM)

Union guys are interesting. When I worked construction in FL (A right to work state) building substations for FL power and light, some union crew took offense.
We came in to work one morning and windows were smashed out of our equipment and hydraulic hoses cut on the dozer and trackhoe.

After it was repaired, we got wind that we were going to have a visit one day. A couple of our crew were members of the local ummmmmm let's call em "Harley owner's association" so their brothers were backing us. Fuckers never even got out of their cars when they saw that and we had no more problems.

subspaceseven -> RE: Michigan (12/12/2012 11:10:45 AM)

I find it quite telling how the "right" can stereotype Union "thugs" and deem it OK, but when people point out the racism or sexism they bitch that you can't blame the whole only the person doing the act.

You know how when the teabaggers had signs of the President with a noose around his neck, or portrayed as a monkey, that was not racism by the GOP or the teabaggers just the one person....but it seems they are OK with taking the actions of some and portraying them to the whole is fine when you disagree with their point of view

Interesting day. Is this how Union people make a point?

Great day and a beginning for Michigan.[:D]

That is how some do, the majority of them don't. I have also talked to quite a few who are very happy that this passed. Then there are those who are whining like little boys who have just been sent to bed and want to stay up and play some more.

They also pull teachers from the schools to protest. That way people have to scramble to find something to do with their kids since they won't be in school. I hope it backfires in their face.

So many people forget the lives lost when the union movement 1st came into being and so many more forget that unions created a strong, prosperous middle class. We should not be engaged in a race to the bottom. Rather, we should be working to raise standards around the world. That is what a leader would do.
~Dave

Are you going to honestly claim that what Unions are doing now is the same things as what they were doing originally? Seriously?

well I have heard that if it passes, children will be forced to work 10 hour days, companies will start firing people for no reason, in a year unemployment will climb to 50% and OSHA will be disbanded and no one will be safe again. Nothing would surprise me at this point.

I find it quite telling that you can find any excuse to defend someone on the left and any excuse to paint the entire right side as evil. But I guess its all good as long as they did it first.[8|]

Interesting how I set up the questions, isn't it? Both had put the sweat into it. It's not about the job, doing the job, being "capable" to do the job. It's about the money. And, if a position is worth $X, shouldn't everyone working that position get paid the same (certifications, tenure, credentials being the same?)?

Is a first-year Union teacher any better than a first-year non-Union teacher?

The first response using the phrase "Union thug," Post#9:

quote:

ORIGINAL: LookieNoNookie
(What I find even more interesting is, the Union thug who wanted the guy to "back the fuck off" who was simply asking a valid question....is wearing an AT&T hat....a company that 4 years ago laid off 50,000 employees in a cost cutting measure, moreover....the hat is made in China).

Then, it was RacerJimn in Post#24:
    quote:

    The UNION THUG tripped over a guy-wire/stake for the Americans For Prosperity tent.
    At the 1:00 mark did you see a different UNION THUG grab the reporter's jacket collar and jerk him backwards almost off his feet?
    How about from 1:10 onward...did you see UNION THUGS pulling the AFP tent down on top of the people, including women and children, inside?
    Nothing like the left's tolerance for fellow American's right to freedom speech, eh?

Then, RacerJim again, in Post#25:
quote:

So, you deny UNION THUGGERY & VIOLENCE on video right in front of you?
Facts are simple things...they simply are facts

Then, it was your post. So, 3 out of 28 posts linked Union member(s) and thugs(gery). If you notice, Lookie used the phrase "the Union thug" (emphasis mine), specifying one person, who definitely was acting thuggish. Racer specified who he was talking about in his first 3 uses of "Union thug" and finally, linked Union and Thuggery (& violence) referring to that which was shown on the video.

Did the "thug" label not apply in any of those cases? Were the protesters walking the sidewalks in the background called "thugs?" Had anyone actually said the "Union thugs" were protesting, then you'd actually have a case. But, no one did that. I did notice, however, that you still use the word "teabaggers" in reference to all those in that movement.

Hypocrisy, thy name is subspaceseven.

Yes. The union member is either aware of the history of unions and therefore is supporting the organizations that created the modern work experience or he knows that in general union workers are better paid than non union members. So the union member is either better informed or simply smarter than the non union member.

You may have a point. Being a union member seems to give you protection alright. I know in some European countries they do have wine with their lunch. Not here. They'd be calling for your balls. Pickled and in a jar.

http://now.msn.com/chrysler-reinstates-workers-fired-for-drinking-smoking-weed-on-the-job

Remember those Chrysler workers caught boozing it up and maybe smoking weed on the job? So, it seems, do a boatload of Twitter users who are screaming in protest after two of them have been reinstated. Footage was captured in in September 2010 of a group of auto employees drinking alcohol and smoking what appeared to be marijuana on their lunch break. With the auto bailout fresh in everyone's minds, as well as a visit to the plant from President Obama, Chrysler fired 13 workers and suspended two. But after a union-backed arbitration process, two are now back at work, prompting angry jokes and boycott threats online.

tazzygirl -> RE: Michigan (12/12/2012 3:28:49 PM)

“While the company does not agree with the ultimate decision of the arbitrator, we respect the grievance procedure process as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement and our relationship with the (United Auto Workers union),” the company said, according to MyFoxDetroit. “Unfortunately, the company was put in a very difficult position because of the way the story was investigated and ultimately revealed to the public. These employees from Jefferson North have been off work for more than two years. The time has come to put this situation behind us and resume our focus on building quality products that will firmly establish Chrysler Group's position in the marketplace."
